Don: Hey Judy, It's been a long time. Hope you are doing well. 2024-12-02, 22:41:41

JennyW: Hello Everyone! Just checking in to see if anyone wants to get this group going again! Hope all is well where ever you live! 2024-08-14, 08:21:59

Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Oldiesmann: So sorry for your loss Carol. Praying for you and your family :( 2022-05-01, 17:13:05

Carol: My husband Don is with the angels.....Our family was able to hold  ourselves together for the last moments.  Juar rhoufhr you might want to know. 2022-04-29, 23:35:15

Carol: Thankful:  Don is home from hospital.  I found him unconscious with head outside on the floor and the rest was in the shower.  At the same moment, one son was walking through the front door to visit.  Two fire trucks came racing in and they took over After 2021-12-29, 22:01:26

Lutheran:

The community was founded by Catholics from Luxembourg, and by German Lutherans.   There are two Churches on either side of the valley.   Here's the Catholic Church:

Each is about 100 years old, each having replaced an earlier structure.  The Lutherans had their graveyard in the front of the church, while the Catholics had it in back:

The Catholic boy's school from that time still survives:

I love the way you photographed them both inthe fog. But the fog shourded catholic church look rather eerie , I like it.

I also like the fog.

Lovely captures.

I really like the yellowish stone of the boy's school.  Is that a stone that is predominant in that area?

It's a form of limestone, which is abundant along the bluffs near the river.   Lots of old quarries are still there, where it was cut out for old houses.

Here's a few from the 1800s, in my hometown:

I'm enjoying these a lot.

We have a specific stone here in Guelph as well and they are trying to preserve all of the old buildings in the city centre that were built with it.

I'll see if I can find some photos.

I really like the second to last image above.  The fog or mist is wonderful.

It's good to hold on to some of the old things.   Buildings are so homogenized now, there's no regional architecture any more.   And that's a shame.   I was up in B.C. not long ago, and I was fascinated by the little architectural details in houses that made them different than homes in Texas and the Midwest.

Fortunately, people are taking some steps to preserve some of the wonderful old houses in my hometown.  It is a pity that many of the old German-style frame houses were left until they were unrepairable.

I find that here in Guelph many of our old buildings in the city centre are being preserved as well.

We're also getting a new City Hall and the old building front is being kept.

These pictures are beautiful.  They would be amazing on cards for little notes.

Your photography is wonderful.  Have you entered it into contests?  you should if you can!
