Founded in 1667, selling pasties that taste like they were baked soon after the shoppe was opened, you can forget Merrie England, you'll have a merrie case of heartburn with one of these things swilling round your innards. No seriously they're good pies and pasties, and its a shoppe full of wonderful old time character, is nearly always crowded.

Great picture.     I've never had a pastie, at least I don't think I have unless it was called something else.  Just what are they?

Basically minced meat and mashed potato filling in a soft shortcrust pastry parcel, easy to make, put what you want in, they're like a flat pie, or they can be of small diced potatoes and meat, put peas and carrots in if you like, good ballast when your going anywhere, the more traditional ones can be fat in the middle and pointy at the ends, with the seam on top, I like the flat ones best.

That sounds like a turnover with meat, etc. filling.  I'm sure I'd enjoy that!

I love pasties.  They are so good.  There used to be a restaurant in Michigan that sold big ones with all kinds of grated veggies on a meat base all wrapped in pastry.  Yummy, and for dessert there were 1 pound cinnamon rolls!  Unfortunately that restaurant is now closed!

This is a good picture Michael.  Are those flats above the shop?  Or do the shop owners live there?
