Title: Union Station, St. Louis
Post by: Barbarian on January 20, 2009, 01:31:09 PM
Sadly, no longer part of any railroad lines, but at one time, the busiest passenger station in the world.   Preserved as a mall and a hotel.   Thank goodness.   The architectural details are wonderful.

This stained glass window, over the main entrance, shows three muses as the cities of (from the left) San Francisco, St. Louis, and New York, emphasizing the role of the railroads in pulling the country together, and the role of St. Louis as the jump-off point for the West.

South end, Great Hall.   This area is now a huge foyer for the Hotel.

For Judy, a large and very well-built model of one of the old locomotives that used to take trains to and from St. Louis.

I was just passing through, and didn't have time to do this place justice.  I'll be back this summer, with better shots.

This one, like the stained glass window, is by Mrs. Barbarian.
