Okay, a little informal poll -- just 'cause I'm curious.


What is your number-one-all-time-favorite, love-it-everytime-you-hear it, always-makes-your-hear-beat-faster,  Christian song?

New, old, hymn, praise and worship, instrumental, southern gospel.

Oh yea (and from the teacher in me) give us a line or two description and why you like it.  ;) ;D :D

Karmat, this is a difficult assignment as there are so many wonderful Christian hymns and songs.  However, I do believe my very favorite is "Just As I Am" .  The words are so simple, yet meaningful and it seems to capture the truth of the Bible is so few words.  Some months back our choir director, who has a beautiful soprano voice, sang this without accompanyment and there were very few dry eyes in the choir or congregation when she finished.

You know, I can imagine that without music, everyone may have listened to the words closely for the first time, perhaps.   I think with a lot of the songs, if we really "listen" not just hear, them, they are powerful.

Wow!  What an assignment.  As Larry has said, I have just so many favorites.

I'm going to think about this one but I do believe that one of my top favorites is "Not What These Hands Have Done".

I really like it because it shows us that our God is sovereign.  We can do NOTHING to save ourselves...it's God's work alone...done on the cross that saves us.  It's a gift from HIM and I'm so happy that He chose me.

I think one of my all time favourites is: "Victory in Jesus"!

One hymn I learned when I was first saved is: "At the Cross"
"I am too blessed to be stressed".

Yea, I'm like ya'll.  There are many songs that I like, and many that are important/dear etc to me.   For me though, choosing one song is the easy part.  If you asked me to find a second favoriite, then I would be in trouble.

The one that means the most to me is "The Lighthouse."  I remember hearing it about the time I "entered" depression, and when I came out of the depression, the song was even more relelvant.  The tag in my sig is the line that will get me every time.

"If it wasn't for the lighthouse, where would this ship be?"

Pat, you posted the words and I think a midi once, do you still have them, or was I dreaming?  If you dont' have it, I will look it up.

Victory in Jesus,
As the Deer Panteth, this one is my very favorite to sing, becuse it comes from my heart that my heart pants only for Him. Every time I sing in it end withthe words "I love you jesus as I look heavenward.

"It is Well With My Soul" has always been a favourite hymn of mine.  As for praise songs, I think "Open Our Eyes" would rank fairly high.

There are sooooooooooooo many special Christian songs with words that touch my soul.  I love hearing Sandi Patti & Larnell Harris sing "I Just Saw Jesus" at the Kennedy Center Homecoming on a Bill Gaither video...it is a real tear jerker for me...I can just imagine just seeing Jesus! and O what a day it will be when we do see Him face to face. How the tears will flow and the praises will glow at the signt of Him.
(I'm not sure about the spelling of Larnell--I cannot find my tape as I have let someone use it)
All the songs Fanny Crosby wrote are very meaningful to me.

No offense to the hymns, but I think my favorite, that always brings chills, is "Arise, My Love", by NewSong.  If it were not for the story that this song tells, how truly lost we would be....

I am tending to lean toward nards music.  I have a few favourites, depending on the frame of mind I am in.  Carmen's The Champion is an all time favourite and haws been for about 15 years.  It is about the battle between Jesus Christ and Satan and Jesus became the Champion when he rose from the grave.  Another is a song br Bob Carlisle I Fall Down I Get Up.  How as christians we fall down and we do get up in the strength of our LOrd.  There is another one that causes me to break down and weep. The Chorus is what will they say when they find out I am a Jesus freek.  My 6 year old grandson who is in Foster care still sings this song.  Listening to him sing it is stunning.  There are others. I will stop.

Thank you for the oppertunity to share my favourite. I have to say Pat's choice of " When Peace like a river" ,would have been mine .In particular the verse that says...

When the Spirit is present in praise this never failes to break me. From all the great hymn writers ,from the modern Graham Kendricks to the George Mathiesons and Fanny Crosbys of yesteryear my number one hymn of all time has to go to little known Samuel Crossman who penned the words ,My Song is love unknown.

Favorite...wow.  What a choice.  I LOVE music.    If you're ever in Hamilton and see two great looking ladies (my daughter and myself  ::)) in a black mustang convertable with the top down and singing at the top of our lungs - just wave hello!  hehe

Okay..to the business at hand.   Um,   "Wonderful, Merciful Savior"  is one I couldn't get through without tears for quite some time.  I sing that with my daughter as well, which is always a blessing because she has a beautiful voice.    The recording of it that I like is by the group "Selah"

"How Great Thou Art" is another favorite.

For newer songs, I like "I Can Only Imagine",  "Fingerprints of God",  and "Where is the Change?"

Most of my favorites are because I associate them with some meaningful event, person, or time in my life.

I started out listening to Southern Gospel but now I listen to it and Contemporary Christian.  I have two young children 9 & 7 so I try to listen to stuff they might be interested in (although I like it too!) My CD collection ranges from Jeff & Sherry Easter, The Hoppers, The Goodmans, to Carmen, FFG, Toby Mac (of DC Talk), Mercy Me (I Can Only Imagine), and several of the WOW CD's. i'm getting more into TobyMac and Switchfoot... Relient K isn't bad.... MercyMe is good but seem to sing the slow songs... we played I can only Imagine at my grandma's funeral... the odd thing is my grandma never was much into the whole "chirstian music thing" as she called it.... but alton said that everytime the song would come on she'd say TURN IT UP!! so it was intereting...

COME TO JESUS.  Babycakes, that is one of my all time favorites (at this moment, anyway)  I can't listen without crying.  I love to sing it too.

Mamapo....I CAN ONLY IMAGINE is another that takes my breath away.  WONDERFUL, MERCIFUL SAVIOR.....ahh..the first time I heard this I was in awe.  the harmony was like velvet.  My sisters and I sing, and I couldn't wait for them to hear this and sing it with me. :)  The lyrics are so meaningful.  Wish I had them in front of me.  I'd post them here.

And Amazing Grace is my story.   It'd be so hard to find just one all time favorite.
