Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Just a quick poll...

1) Do you understand what is meant by "depth of field"?

2) Do you understand how the "aperture" works on a camera?

3) Are you aware that aperture and depth of field are related?

4) Would you be interested in reading a general tutorial on this subject?

Thanks for taking the time to answer :)

Thanks Bernard!

These are very good questions and the answer to number 4 would be a resounding "Yes" from me.

I do know about "depth of field" and "aperture" but am always interested in learning more.

1)  Yes, but I usually use the term incorrectly and have to be correct by my husband (who is an awesome guy, by the way).

2)  Not on a film camera, though my awesome husband has explained it to me a gazillion times.  I sorta know what to do with my digi cam, though.  ;)

3)  Yes, 'cause my awesome husband told me!

4)  I would, but if it will cause me to have less time at the 'puter if my awesome husband is writing it, I might have to say no.  ahahahahahhahahahahaha

Pat

Between sentences, you can come here and check out CP!

Since I am new to using a digi cam, I would definitely be interested in a tutorial. Great Idea Nards, I would appreciate all the help I can get to make good photos. This is going to be my new hobby.

To all who have answered the poll so far - thanks!

To those who haven't, even if not interested, please let me know.

I expect I'll post my little tutorial in about a week!  Maybe a "preview" of the ideas to be discussed over the weekend.

I definitely don't mean to come across as a "know-it-all", but I know a little bit about this and thought some others might be interested.

I will wait with baited breath!

I think that this will be a terrific addition to our site.

Thanks so much, Nards!

NARD, I'd really like to learn more.  I know about DOF, but mostly just use the auto buttons for that, and would like to learn more about aperture and the relation.

And I want my camera back..... :'( :'(

#1 - Sort of.

#2.  Sort of.

#3.  Ummm...  I think so.

#4.  Yes.

Mr Bernard, I do know of the things you ask. I did take the class to learn it and I do have a help here at my home too. 8)

It is my wish to learn more and I do each time I read a nother way, so I will like it to read of what you share of this here.  :)

Sadly, I think I will not be here to see it at all. I will leave my home here to live in the Lhasa in only a short time. I will miss you and ms Karmat very much for this time.  :'(

I do hope you will make this for others to learn here. I know it will be fun for them. :D

And I think you need to make a many more post if you are to be a Maestro when I am back here again in some time.  :P

Hey, I'm a Jr. Member now.  I'm not just anybody, now.  I'll work hard to be a REAL Somebody when you return.

When will you be back?  We are going to miss you terribly.  :(

Yes

2) Do you understand how the "aperture" works on a camera?

Yes, but I would like to learn how it works on a dslr.

3) Are you aware that aperture and depth of field are related?

yes

4) Would you be interested in reading a general tutorial on this subject?

yes, I see you have it up...I will read it later tonight and give you my thoughts.   ;) :D

Thanks for taking the time to answer :)

Sonya, there are some details that are relevant to DSLRs that I didn't really get into, as the tutorial (if it can really be called such) is aimed at the point and shoot stuff that dominates CP.

I really need to get some photos and illustrations into the tut, just haven't had time.

I think you'll find depth of field is much more critical with a DSLR than a digicam.  For some reason, it is simply IMPOSSIBLE to get a REALLY blurry effect with a lot of digicams, but it is very easy with a SLR film cam.

It all WORKS the same way, it just has more affect with the SLR lenses.
