Morning Devotional...


Tough Questions

Some questions aren't always easy to answer.  Maybe that's the way it should be!  Here's just that kind of question:

"I get tired of hearing people brush aside troubles with the platitude in Romans 8:28, 'All things work together for good.' Isn't saying that cruel?"

The verse says, "We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love Him."  I think it's one of the most helpful, comforting verses in the entire Bible.  It announces God's sovereignty in any painful, tragic situation we face. Why?  Because we know God is at work for our good!  He uses our struggles to build character.

So what do we do?  We trust.  Totally!  And we remember. . .God is working for the good.  Yes, any verse can be misused, but that doesn't make it useless!

Another beautiful day in the neighborhood.  It seems we didn't have spring, we went from winter to summer overnight. Friday the trees were leafless and last night when we came home the trees were green with leaves.  Friday the lawn didn't need cutting, last night it looked like past due for needing cutting...as we watched it seemed we could hear the growth.  In PN John saw that a farmer had already a first cut of hay done!  WOW.  We investigated the cost of starting an apiary.  We will be doing that next spring, taking a refresher course and then buying the hives and getting going with it.  We should have enough honey for our own use and perhaps enough to sell as well.  We are looking forward to this.

John is home today as well, I do so enjoy him being home.  On Monday he has a Dr's appointment then taking a load south.  He has a trainee again this week.  The last trainee was a super young man, and will make a good driver long term.  We are hopeful for this new trainee as well.

Hi everyone from a terribly soggy and rainy Georgia.  It rained all day yesterday and all night and we expect more rain today but less of a chance than yesterday.  They issued flood warning for our county that run through Wednesday but where I live will not be impacted as there are no rivers or stream really close to us.  We had a delightful time yesterday playing Hearts and then going out to eat together.  These are new friends from our church who love to play cards.  We will be going to church this morning but will not stay for the sendoff dinner for our pastor as didn't put in our reservations.  He will start his three month sabbatical leave this afternoon.  This dinner was to have an Irish theme as that is where he is going to study for a few days and then just have some time off.  We will be having some guest ministers over these next three months along with our Associate Pastor preaching.  Pat and I will probably grab something to eat before heading home after church.

Etta Sue, was Tony camping out last night or just watching the fire until it burned down?  That is a long talk. I have never heard of HDR photos.  It sounds like Tony shares your interest in photography.  It sounds like Kitty is a very talented person and that she values your opinions.

Janet, you will have a full day for your final preparations.  Did a lot of folks attend the Saturday service? 

Jeanne, thanks for the fine devotional for this week.  Max Lucado has a wonderful way with words.  That verse is one I rely on a lot and believe totally.  God has never promised us an easy, pain free life or problemless life, but that he will see us through whatever life has in store for us. 

Judy, sounds like your trees were just waiting for that warm day.  The growth in your area sounds like what I remember from living in Alaska when things really grew fast during the summer months and all the sunshine and warmer weather.  Bees are certainly needed as they are dying out in many places.  Hope the new trainee works out well for John.

Since we went to church last night, it seems strange today.  I got the refrigerator cleaned out, all my pills sorted for the trip, and other odds and ends.  I will keep working on stuff after I finish here.

Larry, there were probably 50 people at the service last night.  That's enough to take the pressure off for Sunday morning, as it has been really crowded lately when we only have the one service.  Pastor Kris preached a good sermon on  "Be the one!"

Judy, that's really a quick change in the weather!  Wow!  Hope John's trainee is another good one!

Etta Sue, it's so nice to have friends to help you out, and to reciprocate, isn't it?  I'd love to see some of Kitty's paintings.

Yuck!  On TV they are showing a chocolatier making chocolate with duck liver!  Sounds gross to me!  But I can't stand liver.  I have tried some of the chocolate with sea salt, and liked that.  Ugh!  Now he's pouring two quarts of hot pig blood into the chocolate!  PHEW!

We are wondering how we will like the food in Turkey.  Probably will like all except the lamb.  That isn't something folks in our area eat.  The only time I've had it was on a dive trip in Fiji, and didn't care for it.

Janet I am on the hunt for a pair of ewes and a ram...We love lamb. That chocolate does sound gross!!! Makes you wonder what you buy in the stores.  Our favourite is the Belgium chocolate.

Judy, thank you for the hymn.  Now that my eyes are no longer wet I can type here.  I can never sing it (if you call my caterwalling singing) without tearing up.

Oh my!  I'm glad I didn't see that chocolate maker.  I think that would turn me off from chocolate entirely - and that would be a disaster! 

I love lamb but it got so expensive that I haven't even seen it in the supermarket lately.  If you get any extra, Judy, you know where to send it.   ;D  I think the secret with lamb is you have to remove as much fat as you can before you cook it, and then eat it piping hot.  If it cools you get the tallow feeling and taste.

We get great tasting lamb from Wyoming - just a few times per year I cook lamb.  Ham hocks and multi-bean soup simmering today.  Judy:  Maybe you will have to go to Wyoming to find the sheep you need???

The hunt is on for a replacement senior pastor at our church.  It will be tough to replace the founder of a little church who speaks without any notes and knows several of the ancient languages.  Excellent sermons.  Today is the day of community work and they work in schools, restripe parking lots and even cook for the Sheriff's dept.  Sadly, I didn't sign on for various reasons but there are 2,300 working there today and many are not even members.  They accomplish what would take a year for a few to accomplish so it is a big boon to the community. 

Our good friend is home from another episode in the hospital and his email is very strange - all the surgeries and meds have taken a toll on his mind and he is struggling.  Praying that it doesn't bother him or he could become depressed.

That chocolate I mentioned would have to be labeled as to contents.  More things to read.

That's what I didn't like about lamb--it sticks to the roof of your mouth if it's cooled off at all!  This is beef country--and pork and chicken, of course.

My sister Shirley had sheep and raised lambs.  She milked the sheep and sold milk, but the Muslims who have moved into that area got to coming out to buy all the lambs, and she couldn't stand the thoughts of them slaughtering them after she had raised them, so she sold all her stock of them.

This has been such a strange day--not going to church just doesn't seem like Sunday at all!  I went to see Beth, she and John were on the phone and then the lady came in to do her nails, so I didn't stay too long. She didn't want me to leave!

We camped when Tony was a little boy.  If there was a campfire anywhere in the campground, we knew where Tony was.  He was careful with the fire.  He like to get sticks and burn the ends until he couldn't stand the heat of the fire.  He never walked around with the hot stick.  He was good.  And still today he likes sitting around a fire and watches the flames.  He says he does a lot of thinking while watching the fire burn.  Kind of like me and mowing!

After church yesterday three of us went to Tipton...about 45 minute away to the Pizza Shack.  When we went on the train ride in October, we got coupons for a free buffet dinner so we all used our coupons.  Then home for a nice nap.

Today I have the DDS and hopefully I can mow if the grass isn't too wet after rain yesterday.

Tonight is Church Council meeting.

Hi everyone.  It is another overcast morning after another night of rain.  Some parts of Georgia get over 6 inches of rain yesterday.  I think we had something like four inches of rain in the last couple of days.  We did get to see the sun briefly yesterday and it sure looked good.  The housekeepers are here this morning so I stayed about 30 minutes longer at coffee this morning with a couple of the other guys.  I just have my usual Monday activities today.  Stacey called me last night to tell me she thinks her computer died on her as it just turned off while she was using it and she couldn't get it to come back on.  So I will probably take her my laptop until I can get hers fixed when we go down on Thursday. 

Marilyn, hope you enjoyed your warm day yesterday.  It sure wasn't warm down here but was warmer than it seemed as it was damp. 

Janet, why would anyone want to ruin chocolate with liver and pigs blood.  That is just gross.  We will miss you and expect you have already left even as I write this.

Judy, I am like Janet in that growing up in the mid-west we never ate lamb and have had it maybe once or twice in my life and didn't really care for it. 

Jeanne, I am going to try to forget that chocolate story so it doesn't ruin chocolate for me, but doubt there is a chance of that happening.  :)

Carol, I remember my mother sometimes made bean soup with ham hock on wash days.  Those were in the days of the old wringer washer that she had to carry the water to after heating the hot water.  So sad about your good friend and his email message. 

Etta Sue, interesting story of Tony's growing up and the campfires.  Nice to have a free coupon for lunch.  That doesn't happen very often.

OK my post this morning disappeared.  At any rate I am going to post a little later 2 pictures taken at the same spot 4 days apart.  The growth is absolutely amazing.  I don't recall anything like it before.  WE were out yesterday with the lawn tractor taking a ride around the property just enjoying the scenery and God's creation.  Our old girl Cimi insisted on running beside the tractor instead of riding in the trailer with John.  We traveled about 5 miles when you include the trip to the back of our acreage.  By the time she got home and relaxed she was stiff and store.  She made it really clear she didn't even want us to pet her.  Poor girl even with pain meds she struggled.

I have an assignment to complete that will take 2 weeks, all the info is provided, so I won't have the struggle I had with the last assignment.  The exam is in 6 weeks......I always have frozen on exams, I am concerned, but I do know the work so we'll see!  So far my marks are good.

John has a run north before he can go south to pick up his trainee.  One of the drivers bailed on a trip leaving John's dispatcher stuck.  John was the one picked on to pick up the pieces....of course he couldn't say no.....

I have read all the posts, we would love to have more pictures in the current challenge "Trees" if you have difficulty uploading pictures PM Pat or Jeanne or myself and we will help you.

Larry, it sounds like the power supply in Stacey's computer died.  I've had that happen to me three times with three different computers.  It's the easiest and least expensive repair.

Judy, I'm sure you'll coast on through the exam for your course. 

Awww.  Poor Cimi.  :'( She just doesn't like to admit she's getting old and the lovely spring weather was too tempting.

I spent too much time looking for a dress for the grandson's graduation.  My old favorite navy blue sheath will have to do - can't even remember when I bought it.  I do have a newish short jacket to give it some more color. 

Janet:  It sounds like Beth has plenty to keep her occupied - that is just great. 

My bargain of the day was a $2 candle that smells like chocolate.  It was a regular price of $20, can anyone imagine spending $20 on a candle in a jar?

Bitcoin (BTC) is a digital currency first described in a 2008 paper by pseudonymous developer Satoshi Nakamoto, who called it a peer-to-peer, electronic cash system. Bitcoin creation and transfer is based on an open source cryptographic protocol and is not managed by any central authority. Each bitcoin is subdivided into 100 million smaller units called satoshis, defined by eight decimal places. Bitcoins can be transferred through a computer or smartphone without an intermediate financial institution

Satoshi Nakamoto was the pseudonymous person or group of people who designed the original bitcoin protocol in 2008 and launched the bitcoin network in 2009. Beyond bitcoin, no other links to this identity have been found. His involvement in the original bitcoin protocol does not appear to extend past mid-2010. Nakamoto was active in making modifications to the bitcoin network and posting technical information on the BitcoinTalk Forum until his contact with bitcoin users began to fade. Until a few months before he left, he was responsible for creating the majority of the bitcoin protocol, only rarely accepting contributions.
Investigations into the real identity of Satoshi Nakamoto have been attempted by The New Yorker and Fast Company. Fast Company's investigation brought up circumstantial evidence that indicated a link between an encryption patent application filed by Neal King, Vladimir Oksman and Charles Bry on 15 August 2008, and the bitcoin.org domain name which was registered 72 hours later. The patent application (#20100042841) contained networking and encryption technologies similar to bitcoin's. After textual analysis, the phrase "...computationally impractical to reverse" was found in both the patent application and bitcoin's whitepaper. All three inventors explicitly denied being Satoshi Nakamoto.

Hi everyone.  Once again it is an overcast and rather chilly morning.  We have a noisy neighborhood this morning as they are trimming or removing trees in a wooded area about two houses away from us .  Do hope that doesn't go on all day.  We have had a lot of noise for a couple of weeks as they are putting in drainage pipes down this same side street with lots of heavy equipment coming into the area and breaking up rocks since we sit on a part of Stone Mountain.  Nothing unusual planned for today.  I may attend a meeting this morning if Pat doesn't want the car and it appears she does not but still to soon to tell.

Judy, you must have a very large property is it is 5 miles around.  Nice you could enjoy a pleasant day being outside together.  Think positive about the upcoming exam and don't fret about the past in taking tests as this is a new day and new opportunity.  I never worried about tests as I studied and attended all the classes as I went along so was ready for the tests.  I have heard some about Bitcoin but don't understand it or why a person would want to become involved with it. 

Jeanne, I may take the laptop into the computer repair store as they will evaluate it without cost and then make a decision on whether to repair it or not.  It could well be the power supply. 

Carol, I sure can't imagine spending $20 on a candle.  I bet your dress will look like new with your new jacket.  Besides it isn't the dress you wear but your being their for your grandson's graduation that is important as you know.

Well it looks like summer is here. I have my assignment to work on, and then go out and get some work outside done.

I will get at it. and then enjoy the outside. We have over 80 acres, however I mow about 2.  One of the local farmers takes hay off in the late summer.

I got the yard mowed yesterday since it was to rain every day until next Monday.  The Weather Guessers were wrong again!  Today is a sunnier day than yesterday!  No rain so far.  The farmers are loving it! 

I went to the pool this morning and then to Bob Evan's for a breakfast for lunch! 

This afternoon we are having a Senior Saints meeting at church. 

Then laundry!  My dirty clothes hamper is overflowing!  I am either awful dirty or awful clean!

JudyB:  Bitcoin isn't so popular but it may be when and if banks crash. 

Don and I were just talking about how "tracked" we are on the internet.  He searched a hotel for a friend and lo and behold, that hotel site came up on Don's main page.  I know that if I have looked at some subjects, there will be an email waiting for me regarding the same.  Big Brother is here! 

What joy to read that three women are free after being kidnapped for ten years.  How on earth did they bear it?  Amazing story. 

Etta Sue:  I think you are awfully clean...... my hamper is full too often as well so that is why I say you are awfully clean.   ^-^

Out for a while as a good neighbor wanted to buy cards and two presents - she is caregiver for husband and Don stayed with him for most of the time.  I was able to find a cuddly toy for a one-year-old grand niece.  Gosh, I do miss having some babies close. 

Final bible study for tomorrow - it is a potluck so we really don't have much to study.  Wednesdays will be empty until September. 

Janet:  when do you leave?  Are you talking Turkey already????  Do hope you have a guide who will show you every little place and explain it as well.  Enjoy.

Larry:  Bless you - yes, my dress will be fine.  We can't wait to get a hug from him - he really likes to visit with us and part of that is that he has been away for school years of at least 4 years now & it looks like he won't be living near us again.

. I sure have had problems the last few days. I noticed water on the laundry room floor as I was doing the laundry.  as it turned out the drain was backed up and coming out onto the floor. The Toilet in the master bath had water all around it on the floor too.  I kept telling Keith we needed to call the plumber.

Then yesterday leaving work I couldn't get  the ignition to unlock so I could start my car. I called Keith, he came and got it unlocked, I drove  home put it in the garage and sprayed the heck out of the ignition with WD40, I got it loosened up and now I can work that. Last night I baked a carrot cake after supper and forgot to set the timer. In the middle of the night I got up to use the bathroom and smelled something burning, I walked through the house sniffing the air trying to find it I didn't smell anything in the kitchen. When I went to the kitchen to fix breakfast this morning I saw the cooling rack on the counter and remembered the cake. I turned off the oven and opened the door and there it was, a nice black brick in the cake pan. It's a good thing the house didn't catch fire and also that the Pyrex baking dish didn't break, I left it in the oven to cool before removing the brick and placing it in the garbage.

Back to the plumbing. this morning I saw fecal matter  rising up through the bathtub drain in the master bath, and all the toilets were plugged up ad well. I told Keith you have to call the plumber TODAY!!! Well I called the plumber, The drain from the house to the street was plugged up and they got that fixed all all the drains are running again and the toilets are flushing. WHEW!!  I hope that is the 3 things that always seem to happen in 3's and be the end of  the problems for awhile.

Oh dear, Marilyn!  What a time you've had.  I'm glad the drains are finally fixed and you can get the car started.  Too bad you lost a delicious cake.  But I'm very surprised your smoke alarm didn't go off when your cake burned!  Mine shrieks at me if there's even something spilled in the oven that I don't notice before using it the next time.

Well, I've been doing laundry and packing today for another trip to California.  I'll leave in the morning and be gone at least a week.  I will just "play it by ear" once I get there since I don't have anything on the agenda here before a doctor appointment next month.  We are planning a small family reunion the end of June when my sister (maybe both of them) will make it to Sacramento and we have reserved a vacation home in the middle of Sacramento for a weekend.  Hopefully we can get some more of the family rallyed around by then.

I don't know how often I'll have access to a computer or the internet, so can't guarantee how much browsing I'll be doing here or elsewhere.  You just never know, though.  I could pop in when least expected.  :D

I still keep all y'all in my thoughts and prayers as I read of all your goings on ... Janet will be going away while I'm gone .... and who knows what any of the rest of you will be up to.

Good evening to all.  It seems that time just goes to fast and I have read the posts and there is a lot of things happening to many of you on C.P. :)    Noreen and I have been very thankful for your prayers from all on C.P.    Noreen goes to physio 3 times a weekk and it is very hard when she is finished as the pain is a lot but she is trying hard to put up with it.

God is so good and he never let's us down and he always gives us strength day by day.  It was very funny when I read about the wondrful soap that Pat was making for Larry and then he said how good it was with all the vegatables in it.

Judy B.  Thank you for my favourite hymn   It Is Well With My Soul this is what you would call my signature song when I did a lot more singing  and I do miss singing as much as I used to do. :thumbsup:
