Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Carol: Thankful:  Don is home from hospital.  I found him unconscious with head outside on the floor and the rest was in the shower.  At the same moment, one son was walking through the front door to visit.  Two fire trucks came racing in and they took over After 2021-12-29, 22:01:26

I recently returned to my little hometown, to find a former HS classmate had turned an abandoned soda shop into a pizzeria.   But it's a pizzeria unlike any I've ever seen before.

OK, not all that original in front...

And inside...

The stitch isn't perfect, but it gives you a good idea of what's in it.

Thin crust pizza, baked in a brick oven at very high temperature, very quickly.    It's really, really good.   On weekends, people from all over come into the harbor just to have pizza here.

Everything is fresh, everything is cut just before the pizza is made.   And you can taste the difference.

The patio in back is cluttered and comfortable.   Nice place to meet with friends on summer evenings.

That pizza looks delicious!  Looks like a nice place to eat, not just a order and run like fast food restaurants.

Barbarian

And here's a small mystery.   In the pizzeria flowerbed, these clamshells (which are quite common around Sabula) are filled with holes.

Can anyone guess why?

JudyB

Maybe he got them like that?

Barbarian

Yep.  But why are they like that?

Don

Well I have no idea what the answer is but you have peaked my curiosity.

Once, all men's shirts had pearl buttons.   They were made from mother-of-pearl from the inside of mussel shells.   There was a pearl button factory in Sabula many years ago.   The remains are everywhere along the lake.  Those holes are were the button blanks were cut out, as the first step.

Really good dress shirts still use them; you can tell the difference between a fine pearl button and plastic.

Interesting bit of trivia about the clam shells and buttons.

And an interesting collection of pictures of the pizzeria.   :D

Wow I never knew that about the shells.  I was thinking perhaps some sort of predator, but what would make them so evenly cut. That is interesting!

Love the description and pizzeria pictures. Interesting story on the clam shells, too... :)
