Don: Hey Judy, It's been a long time. Hope you are doing well. 2024-12-02, 22:41:41

JennyW: Hello Everyone! Just checking in to see if anyone wants to get this group going again! Hope all is well where ever you live! 2024-08-14, 08:21:59

Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Oldiesmann: So sorry for your loss Carol. Praying for you and your family :( 2022-05-01, 17:13:05

Carol: My husband Don is with the angels.....Our family was able to hold  ourselves together for the last moments.  Juar rhoufhr you might want to know. 2022-04-29, 23:35:15

Carol: Thankful:  Don is home from hospital.  I found him unconscious with head outside on the floor and the rest was in the shower.  At the same moment, one son was walking through the front door to visit.  Two fire trucks came racing in and they took over After 2021-12-29, 22:01:26

This is the lake out at the wildlife refuge on a freezing cold, dreary, hazy day.

Here's a color version of a similar shot...I had added a frame in PSCS2 to this one.

I can't get over the fact that you can make a dreary hazy day look so beautiful.

Don

I agree with Judy, you got something special there.

Thanks so much, you guys!  I actually just started to convert images to black and white when I didn't like the colors in the original version.  I haven't really studied black and white all that much, so I am glad to know I'm doing something right.  I am planning to pick up some books on black and white photography at the library to study.

Don, I notice you own the lens I'm planning to buy the 70-200 2.8 IS USM zoom.  How do you like it?  Has it performed well for you?  I will also have to get an extender.

Hi Kathleen

I love the lens, it has performed flawlessly and it is fast. It is great for portraits as long as you have enough room. The IS is great for low light but if you shoot action shots turn it off or it will work against you. The cons for me have been the weight and the color. Its heavy and its white and draws a lot of attention. I'm just an amateur but when people see that big white lens, and they will, they think you work for the paper or some magazine, however you can use that to your advantage because sometimes it allows you access to places you might not otherwise have access to.

I read a lot of reviews before i bought my extender and the advice was to buy the 1.4 instead of the 2. Reviews said you lose too much picture quality with the 2. i've never had a 2 to compare it to but the 1.4 works great with little loss and everything works like it's suppose to.

Hope you can get it soon because i know i could hardly wait to get mine.

Kathleen, I am a great fan of black and white.  I really like what you did here.  As mentioned it is sometimes the way to go especially with scenes like this.

Don-Thanks for the lens info.  I can't wait to get the faster glass and extender so I can get better wildlife/bird shots.  It probably won't be really soon, though.

Beck  & Juanital-Thanks so much for your kind words and feedback.   :)

On hazy overcast day's Judy, the colours become muted to the extent rhat the eye becomes much more aware of all the subtle details rather than taking in lots of colour, you've basically got four distinct colours, so your left to see the richness ot tone and detail in those areas.
