Title: I need prayer re my job situation.
Post by: BonnieA on January 10, 2013, 06:57:26 PM
I am struggling with whether I should stay on as a permanent part-time employee, thereby being required to work two evenings and every other weekend along with being available Mon-Fri during the day, or becoming a casual employee.  A casual employee sets their own hours, and does not have to work weekends or holidays.

The down side with casual is that I would not be guaranteed any hours and would need another part-time job to supplement my income.  On the positive side is the fact that I would no longer be required to work Friday evenings then be expected to be back at work for 7:15 in the morning.
That results in my being overtired and run down.

Sorry for the long explanation, especially since the Lord knows my heart and my concerns.

Bonnie could you work in the hospital and get regular hours and a pay you can count on....Or maybe St Joes?

Thank you Al, for adding my situation to your prayers.

Judy, I am hesitant to apply at St.  Jos, even though several staff who watch me interact with friends who live there as well as other people on their floor.  The reason for the hesitation is the fact that one of their employees was let go due to a shoulder injury.  That is, she was let go because this injury kept her from doing her full job.  With my back problem and recurring rotator cuff problems, I might find myself fired too.

They do two person lifts there, so you wouldn't think there would be a problem re lifting, as one could lift with their good side.

Though there were PSWs at Guelph General at one time, that is no longer the case.

I spoke with my union steward last night, who has also proven to be a good friend and confidante.  We discussed the new enhanced palliative positions, which she felt would be far too physical for me, especially when having to reposition clients in their beds without assistance.  She feels that changing my availability to casual would be the way to go, since I could go back to part time if I wasn't getting enough hours.

Thank you all for your continued prayer support.

Bonnie

Re my second paragraph in my above post...meant to say:
even though several staff who watch me interact with both friends who live there and their fellow residents comment on how good I am with them....

Bonnie see if you can get an MRI ordered for your shoulders.  You may have a problem that is correctable......Dr.Stamp is the person to see if it is.

Hi Judy. I do get physio regularly for my shoulders and back.  Cannot get an MRI due to my defib implant.

Thanks for caring and praying.

I had a meeting with my supervisor yesterday, and she strongly recommends holding off on making the change to casual employment.  The reason is that our schedules are being revamped, with the idea that clients who are currently without a regular worker will be looked after and that those of us with spaces in our days will, therefore, have more hours.

She truly understands my frustrations re working the Friday night then being expected to be back out early Saturday morning, and said she would see about having one of the junior staff take on the responsibility of the night visit.

She also said that casual is not a good spot for an unmarried single, as there is no guarantee that I would make enough money to pay my bills.

I am still praying over this situation.

Thanks for asking Judy.

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to wait.  Read the book of Habakkuk, and learn how he had to learn to wait!
