Etta Sue: Plain yogurt takes up the taste of whatever you mix it with in this case you would not even taste the yogurt, only the pineapple and cabbage. Don't be afraid to try new things. You'd be surprised at the joy your tastebuds will have.  ;D The tastebuds will thank you and your body will be saturated in better health.

I am 63 and had been diagnosed with some rhumatiod and some osteo arthritis, I could not wald without pain in my knees, I had carpul tunnel syndrome so bad that my hands would cramp up when I tried to write. But thanks to God a lot of prayer,, and a change in my diet and vitamin supplements, I no longer suffer with ANY pain in my body. I am able to do things that only 4-5 years ago I could not do. Nothing was done by the doctor I was told to have surgery on mywrists, but didn't and that I would just have to live with the arthritis and be on pain meds the rest of my life.

Well here is more of my testimony in the KITCHEN section. ha ha

Marilyn ~ Your diet sounds like it made a big difference in your life.  Other than my bladder cancer and me being overweight, I have no medical problems.  Oh, once in a while, my back hurts but I know why....sitting here too long, doing something that I haven't done for a long time.

I know we should eat healthy....but that is when I started gaining weight!!!  I had high cholesterol...so when I found things that were fat free, I ate it all.  Most fat free 'good tasting things' contain lots of sugar.  But I have my cholesterol under control with medication and I decided that I was going to eat what my body and taste buds told me to eat.  I haven't lost any weight but I haven't gained any weight for over a year.  That is more than I can say for the previous 9 years.  I have gained my weight since my husband passed away and since I retired.  No one to tell me not to eat it and I do eat out a lot.  Not a lot of diet food in restaurants and the portions are so huge and my mommy taught me to 'clean my plate'....lots of people starving in China... ::)

So I appreciate reading recipes for healthy eating but I don't eat healthy.  I wouldn't even know where to buy some of the ingredients and then my budget wouldn't afford it anyway.  Would rather spend the money on eating out... ;D ;D :D :D ;) ;)

Etta Sue: I am sorry to hear that you don't want to try eating healthier. Those so called fat free items are not only loaded with sugar but tha also have fat that is disguised in other ingredients. To put your mind at ease regarding cost, I spend $10.-$20 a week on groceries for myself. Some weeks it is only 10. and others 20. but not every week do I need to but the more costly items. The most costly I have ever purchased is the Olive Oil at $6.99 a bottle. the rest is less than that. Most of the items can be purchased in your local grocery store.

I get my vitamins at the Vitamnin Liquidator store and last I bought them I got 19 bottles of different vitamins and other herbals for $17.00. They get the vitamins from stores that are restocking the shelves and want to put out all new stuff. They are well within the expiration date by at least 1-2 years. I get bottles of anywhere from 250 pills to 1000. Some are much less and cost more than the larger bottles.

I also want to address the high cholesterol. I too had high cholesterol. My Doctor wanted to put me on Lipitor, I ask what the side efftects were like I do for every med they try to get me to take. And my Doctor told me that all the cholesterol drugs on the market cause liver damage. I asked how I could lower my cholesterol naturally, he said diet and excersise. I went a step further and researched the alternatives and here is what I came up with and what I do now and it lowered my cholesterol by 50 points in one year.

1 garlic capsule 3 times a day.

First thing inthe morning I take a full glass of warm water add 2 teaspons of apple cider vineger and down it quickly. You can also add 1 teaspoon of honey to make it more palatable.

I also took one 500 mg tablet of flushless niacin or niacinamide. When I went back the following year for blood work my doctor said whatever I was doing to keep on doing it.

Eating lots of raw veggies and getting my protien for soy products  like tofu, and soy milk helps to keep it down.
I am now below 200. It took a total of 3 years to get it where it should be.I no longer take the niacin or niacinamide, I take Rutin instead. I still use the vinegar and the garlic capsules and beside that I love garlic and eat plenty of it. I would rather not take any meds that will cause liver damage, that can lead to more problems than I ever want to have to deal with.

I must be the 'odd one out'!  I don't take any vitamins OR minerals.  Only chew Tums for calcium.  Bone density test shows my bones are strong and healthy.  I, personally, feel that medicines are regulated where vitamins and minerals are not.  You can overdose on them, the same as you can with medicines.

I tried the garlic and vinegar for cholesterol.  I had more days that I had no cholesterol than I did with cholesterol.  My doctor says my body makes cholesterol.  So I take Prevachol and and new medicine called Zetia....attacks the cholesterol in the stomach.  My cholesterol has been as high at 365...the last blood draw was 200 on the nose.  What I am doing works for me...what you are doing works for you.  I would not do it your way nor would you do it my way.  Liver damage?  I know that wouldn't be the best thing to have but better than a coronary heart attack.

If I were a sickly person, I may try the vitamins and minerals.  But I could count on one hand the days that I was so sick that I couldn't function in my whole life.  I never used my 'sick days' while working.

Again, I am a very healthy person.  Besides we won't live forever and when you think about heaven, who wants to live here for eternity?

What works for you is fine for you.  What works for me is fine for me.   :P :P

Hugs to you!!

Moses lived to be 120 and wasn't sick or diseased when he died, the Lord just took him home. He died of NOTHING.

Another recipie that I can try.  Can you tell this is my first time here in this area?  Well, it is ::)
Marilyn, I take a good vitamin and mineral supplement.  But since I found out about my osteo and low thyroid and high cholestrol..I did start the medicine prescribed by my new doctor.  So, when I go back this fall I will see how I check up.  Last spring my cholestrol was under control and thyroid, too.
