Mrs. Barbarian and I were down in the Trinity River bottoms looking for wildlife and flowers. Then we found this:

In one lagoon, races being held with model boats.
They were super fast. I tried to do some panning to show the speed, but the boats bounce around a lot, and as you see, it's really hard to get a sharp shot of them, with a 1/90 shutter speed.
The boats are about 3 feet long. This is Mrs. Barbarian's shot.

That must have been fun to watch. :D
Wow, thanks for sharing these, they certainly hit home for me. A good friend of mine was killed in a car accident two weeks ago and he used to race in the IHBA (International Hot Boat Association) which for those who don't know they are full size boats not the miniatures shown above. My first race I went to was in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. I thought to myself when going out "does GGP really have a lake big enough to drag race boats in?" And my hunch was right, when we arrived at the lake we saw these miniature boats flying around this mini-lake. It was too funny and a moment I wont soon forget. Don't get me wrong, these things are lightning fast we learned (most serious boats travel around at 50+ mph).
About 6 months later we went to Red Bluff and saw them race the 'big boat' as I called it which was an amazing event as well.
Thanks again for sharing these
What fun for you to have watched this.
