JennyW: Hello Everyone! Just checking in to see if anyone wants to get this group going again! Hope all is well where ever you live! 2024-08-14, 08:21:59

Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Oldiesmann: So sorry for your loss Carol. Praying for you and your family :( 2022-05-01, 17:13:05

'And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgement; that ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.'
[/b]

Philippians 1:9-11

If I have a prayer for you then it is contained in the words above.

There are many discouragements and difficulties for Christians in this world of ours. The need for Christian unity and love is greater than ever. We cannot expect to find encouragement from the world, however we should expect encouragement from our brothers and sisters in the Lord.

We are part of the same family now, part of the same body in Christ. We must always remember that it was Christ who first loved us and not the other way about. There is nothing in us that would attract or commend such love. His love was unconditional.

He came to His own and His own received Him not. He died for those who walked in darkness, who saw no beauty in Him that they should desire Him. He gave Himself a ransom for many, the Just for the unjust. He laid down His life for His church. Now the church should be willing to lay down its life for Him.

If He had marked iniquity then none of us would stand.
It is all to easy for us to go around with a high and mighty attitude thinking that our church, our way of worship, our lifestyle, our talents are better than others. Is that the mind of Christ? Sadly it is the mind of many in our day although they would never confess to it.

It is all too easy to find fault in our brothers and sisters. Instead of finding fault, let us try to see the Christ in them and love them for what they are, not for what we had viewed them to be.

The father of the Prodigal son could have torn strips off him on his return, but he didn't. Would you prepare such a welcome for one who had gone astray? Are you and I willing to embrace those who have strayed and fallen away? Do we ever think that we are above a fall or beyond bringing shame upon the cause of Christ?
The very thought makes me cringe!

Let us try to make a difference by showing the love of Christ to others as we walk the walk. The Apostle prayed that their love would abound more and more. Well may our love be seen by all, loving and viewing our brothers and sisters as Christ did.

Instead of our mouths bringing forth nasty, harsh words causing needless harm, let us speak the truth in love, encouraging one another in the way. We all need encourage, I more than most! If we see others in need then let us do what Christ would do.

Cultivating this type of mindset I believe is healthy. To be spiritually minded is life and peace. Many would frown upon that last statement probably because they find it impossible to live with such intensity of spiritual thinking. It is just too difficult a task for them. For others it is as natural as breathing.

Being sincere and without offence in our lives is not a sign of weakness but of strength. In many cases we have to say let others think of me what they will, let me be like Christ.

Let us pray earnestly for those who hate us. Let us love our enemies and plead for their souls. Let us love the brethren with a pure heart fervently. Let us love Christ above all.

The Apostle goes on to say a little later in the chapter, ' for me to live is Christ to die is gain.' A question we must ask ourselves daily is this. Am I living today for myself or for Jesus?

The more Christlike I desire to be, the further away the reality of it in my life seems to get.

It would be good if our fellow man would look upon us as Christians who are sincere and without offence, being filled with the fruits of righteousness, glorifying and praise God. I think the nearer we live to this mark the greater our hope for revival.

LOL

Your brother in Christ

Iain

Good Afternoon.....well it is here because I am "in"..Back with C.P...after suffering withdrawal symptoms again......Praise God!

This has been a trying week and I do believe Jesus is at the door....

As Iain encourages us.....so we must draw closer together....".Lord we come against these dividing walls in Your Name and command them to come down....Amen!"

We all have different personalities and the Lord knows our hearts.....Accordingly and wisely our Heavenly Father places us in fellowships that suit our nature.....We are not all for the "happy clappy"....some like the "still waters"....wherever the Name of the Lord  Jesus Christ is lifted up there He is.........It is good to have shared meetings with other denominations sometimes...we do this over here....Anglicans and Roman Catholics join with Pentecostals on occasions....Perhaps if a special speaker is coming to a cetain church.......i.e. when the Seagulls (not sure of the spelling but Marilyn will know them) came over from U.S. to Birmingham we all visited the Pentecostal Church to see them....to share their gifts....

The gifts are deposited as God wishes but wonder of wonders...there will come a time when the outpouring will be so overwhelming that we shall all be "flowing as one"...(Isaiah 60:5 ) ....Praise God!

Christopher saw another hospital doctor today...and she wants to see him in the morning if  no change....He is so very tired, Bless him!....Our health service is in disarray but the staff at the hospital are doing the best they can.  The Lord sent us at the right time...we didn't have long to wait in accident and emergency.....7.30a.m. I prayed first. ..St. Pio of Pietrelcino said "Pray, Hope and Do Not Worry".  Bless him! (Now here is a born again Christian quoting a great R.C. Saint)...

I have missed you all due to the blaster worm..Virgin were amazing and I have downloaded from microsoft and a private download which Virgin recommended...They are still putting out a pop up saying that it has slowed the whole www. up and not to worry.

Prayers for you all over in U.S. and Canada....I saw Mr. Bush on the news saying it is due to old equipment.....NO COMMENT!

God bless all of you who pop in today dear brothers and sisters,
Love Jenny.

tenderheart

Good morning to you all. We have power again but we are on what they call brown outs.....which means we are not yet running on full power......but we are well and going fine.

sorry we missed you all for the past few days.....and the heat is rising so your prayers would be appreciated....

we have not heard a word from Pat as yet.....if anyone else has please let us know if you would.

God bless and take care.
Paulette.

Larry Hanna

Paulette, I saw a posting from Pat that they had arrived safely and had had a good trip and also a photo on SeniorNet taken by someone else of the group at supper two nights ago at the Spaghetti Factory.  Everyone expected at the SeniorNet Bash had arrived and I am sure they were very busy yesterday as think they were going on a sightseeing tour.

It is time to go up and have coffee with my retired friends so will be back later this morning.  Glad to see people returning to the site.

Ruth Ann Bice

I saw on SeniorNet that she arrived at the Bash okay. She commented, using someone else's computer, that she wished her dental work would have been complete before she went to the Bash.

She's such a wonderful, friendly, caring woman. How blessed we are that she's our leader!

Y'all have a good day. My blood pressure is very high - a really bad stressful week at work, so the doctor has prescribed rest and relaxation for this weekend instead of work. I believe I'll "fill" that prescription!

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Hello All

This has indeed been an interesting week.  Thursday we were checking out in Wal-Mart when the power went out.  At first everyine thought there had been a local accident.  We left the mall and when all the traffic lights were out we realized how wide spread it was in the city.  Everyone was behaving themselves with the traffic lights.  As we drove one report we received from a pedestrian was that it was Ontario wide.  This we found hard to believe.  The next report was that there was a power plant that blew up in New York.  There was concern that it was another 9/11.  At church we found out the truth that it was NOT an act of terriorism.  Ria you can relax about that.  Basically what has been said here in Ontario is that there has been overusage of the hydro and the power plants could not keep up with the demand in both countries.  I find it amazing how we have become dependant on air conditioners, computers, washers, driers, dishwashers, fans, and the like.  Each of these items are good to use but we have been using them all at the same time time.  Perhaps we need to lower our use to ease up on our demand on the power grids,

OK I am off my soap box.  We have had a wonderful time at VBS.  One thing that happened.  One girl Glynessa coloured a picture in a colouring contest and signed her friend's name Naomi.  Well this picture won.  Naomi didn't want to give up her prise but we encouraged her to do "what was right".  There was no pressure, just you need to do what is right.  Well at the end of a song Naomi took her prise and gave it to Glynessa,  she came back sad, but at the same time a joywas about her.  I spoke to the director, and we gave Naomi another prize for her honesty.   This was a big thing for Naomi, and was a lesson with positive consequences for her and Glynessa.  Both these girls will be coming to Sunday School come September.

We were teaching The Perfect Ten.  Each of the children know all of the ten commandments.  We had a song that they learned.

Number 1 we just begun God should be first in your life.
Number 2's the idol rule, those graven images aren't nice.
Number 3 Gods name should be never spoken in jest.
Number 4 the sabbath's for our worship and our rest.
Number 5 we all should strive to honour father and mother.
Number 6 don't get your kicks from killing one another.
Number 7 life is heaven when you're true to your mate.
Number 8 don't steal and break this rule for goodness sake!  Yea
Number 9 don't be the kind that goes around telling lies.
Number 10 don't covet when you see your neighbours house -or  wife!
This is the list that God insists we stay away from these sins, That is why we memorise commandments 1 through 10.

The perfect ten, the perfect ten, they are just as true as they were way back when.
God gave the perfect ten, the perfect ten  lets say them once again........

God gave the perfect 10, the perfect 10
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 the perfect ten.

Well that is the week.  So many stories to tell but this was mt highlight.

Love to all
JudyB

BTW Anyone hear from Pat???

Larry Hanna

I thought the following hymn would be appropriate (of course it is appropriate anytime) for Iain devotional this morning.

WHAT A FRIEND
(Click to hear music)
Tune:  The Rose

What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He'll take and shield you; you will find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear
May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.

Janice

Good morning, friends.
Just checking in to see if we are still up and running...

Ruth Ann, I pray you will be able to get your bp under control, that is a scary situation.  Been there myself.  What do you do, just put your feet up and try to relax all weekend?  And isn't that hard to do, when you think of all the things you need to be doing.

Iain, thank you so much for the wise words today.  How true for us all.

Ria, good morning, I can understand you quite well, you make good points.  Hope you are having a wonderful day.

Jenny, yes we are all different personalities and I am glad the Lord understands our hearts.  He is our Creator, and knows us better than we know ourselves.  I am more the still waters type myself.  Bless you today.

Larry, are you still getting rain?  We did get a little sprinkle last Sunday afternoon, not even what they call a "trace" but hopefully we will see rain sometime this month.  August is usually our wettest month.  At least it did cool off a little the past few days.

Good morning Paulette.  I hope the brown-out situation improves today!  And JudyB.  I like the Perfect 10 song.  BTW did you read about the judge in Alabama who was ordered to remove the 10 Commandment plaque or statue (w/e) from the courthouse.  He refused to remove it.  I guess they will be coming after him now.

I wonder how Jerry is doing by now?  Jerry, if you get a chance to sign in, we are still praying for you, and hope you have been making good progress.

Hello to all others who come in today...especially if some of the Calgary bunch happen to peek in here today.
Love in Jesus!
~Janice
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.   Ps 118:24

Janice

Larry, you were giving us some music while I was composing.  Thanks for that wonderful song!

Janice, we didn't get a drop of rain yesterday.  That is very rare for us this summer.  More showers are forecast for this afternoon and it is now overcast after seeing the sun earlier this morning.  Sure hope Earl is feeling better today.  I think taking sulfa often drags a person down a bit.

Ruth Ann, hope you have a very quiet and restful weekend and that your blood pressure improves as a result.  You have been on a pretty hectic sounding schedule for quite a few days.

Judy, sounds like your Bible School went well.

Hope you saw my note and that of Ruth Ann regarding Pat Scott.  All is well and I am sure they all are having a wonderful time together.  I attended the SeniorNet Bash we had here in Atlanta several years ago and this is one great group of people.  It is interesting how many fine friendships are made via this Internet type of communication.  You quickly come to feel you  know the person and because you know a bit about there there is an immediate link.  I believe the same thing is true on this site with the addition that we, as Christian, are all brothers and sisters in Christ.

Jenny, sure sorry to hear that Christopher is still having such a time.  Hope he sees improvement over the weekend.

Ria, good to see your posting and I understood every word of your posting.  You write very well in English.  I watched a bit of a program we have here called 20/20 and they had traced down the point where the power outage was stopped due to some actions of the engineers at a place in Pennsylvania.  Otherwise, it might have knocked off power throughout the country.  Obviously this is a very vulnerable area.

Iain, hope your fair went well today and that you were able to sell a lot of pictures.

Papa John

Good morning everyone.  Seems like things are getting back to normal.

MARILYN,  please excuse me.  My misspelling your name was what I call a typewritergraphical error.  Also it might be called a senior moment.    ;D    :o

We are going down to a neighboring town, Dickson, to a funeral this afternoon.  A dear Christian lady, 96 years old has passed on.  She was a member of a congregation where I preached as a young man some 56 years ago.  She still attending services when I visited back there last year.

A report from Pat was on SeniorNet.  They did arrive safely and everyone there seems to be having a good time.

How nice to be back and read all your postings.  No problems here and most grateful.  Our gov. computers were down because of the worm....makes one wonder!

Thanks Iain.  As always your words are a wonderful blessing for the day ahead.  Will have to go back and read the days missed later.

Agree that we all need to remember there is more than one way to worship the Lord.  So many turn away because of folks who believe they have the only path to God.  I prefer a quiet type of service, but also am blessed by one that is lively.  The Lord speaks to our hearts in different ways at different times.  Seems to what we need and when.....God Bless.

Elizabeth

Sorry...left out a word due to haste.  That should have read:  knows what we need!

Marilyn

Good Morning to you all. It is so good to be back on here with all our wonderful friends. It makes us appreciate this site that much more.

Iain you devotional this morning is such a blessing as it is every day. Your insights into the word of God are very well written and easy to understand.  Each day there is something that I can apply to my life for the day and to remember. Today it is my prayer to be more like Jesus.

That's ok  Papa John. I like the words Janet use "A knowledge delay" rather than senior moment.

Riuth Ann I will be praying for you,. You just take it easy this weekend.

Ria and Jenny thank you for your prayers for North America yesterday.

Janice How is earl feeling today>

Larry you are doing a great job substituting for Pat with the Songs and supervision of the site.

Good Morning to you also Liz. How is your friend AL?

I will be back later

Oh, I'm so happy to see all of you again; I have missed you all so much! I assumed it was because of the power failure, but I don't know where you originate from, or where alot of you are. I am in central Illinois, and we were not affected at all, but we were all praying for everyone that was! Iain, your devotional was so thought provoking, and inspiring today; thank you. Ria, thank you for your prayers for us Americans. Iain, are you in Canada too? I hope you all have a blessed Lords' Day tomorrow, and a restful, blessed day today.
Love to all,
Cami

FrancyLou

Good Morning all!!!

I have trouble off and on getting into CP so was not worried.  I did not hear about the outage until a friend mentioned it while we were playing Bridge on the internet.  She said it was on the news...  then she said CNN was out.  Of course we all thought of 9/11.

When we heard what it was I understood.  Just the day before in Kansas City Missouri three manholes had blown from the heat and humidity.

Love to all, Francy

Larry, I forgot to say that is one of my favorite hymns!

Ruth

Iain your devotional spoke words of blessings this afternoon.

We were visiting in Bancroft Ontario went the lights went out they had just started cooking dinner and now the question what do we do, we had just got a call that it was province wide.  Problem got solved when hubby went to his Aunts trailer to bring her BBQ back along with pails of water from the lake many in other parts of Ontario were not able to go to a lake or pond for water.

Here at home our power was not restored until noon yesterday, but we are to use as little as possible. Praise the Lord our sump pump did not overflow nor did we  loose any food.

Ruth
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Papa John

Marilyn, it seems like I have more and more of those knowledge delays lately.

We have had a nice day here.  We did go to the funeral of the lady 96 years old.  She was a remarkable woman with seven children, 23 grandchildren, and 53 great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.  I saw a lot of old friends.  Dickson is my home town and the church their  is my home congregation.

We are looking forward to our worship tomorrow.  Afterwards members of our Bible class are meeting for our Sunday dinner at a restaurant which specializes in country ham, eggs, and hot biscuits.  They serve others things too but I always enjoy the ham and eggs.

We've had a great time.

We leave from Calgary in the morning and then we'll be on the road for about 5 days.

It nothing else I am consistent as am late again this morning getting the devotional for August 17th in place.  It has been done now and this day's discussion has been closed.
