Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

          Morning Devotional...

We were gentle among you, even as a (nursing mother).
          1 Thess. 2:7

We exhorted, and comforted, and charged...as a father.
          1 Thess. 2:11

The apostle brings a remarkable balance to bear upon the servant of the Lord: the tender care of a godly mother and the encouragement and challenge of a godly father.

As parents, we are called upon to provide that balance in the home, and as leaders in the local assembly we're to bring that same tone into our relationships with the saints.

We need the warmth, affection, and nurturing of a mother in dealing with an infant, even though that child may try our patience beyond measure.

But we also need the challenge of an exhorting father.

May God give us this balance.
                                                                               --William Gustafson

Gentle Shepherd, come and lead us,
          for we need You to help us find our way;
Gentle Shepherd, come and feed us,
for we need Your strength from day to day.

Balance indeed.  that is one area of my life that i know could use some help.

Sorry I didn't post Thursday.  It was a busy, busy, busy day (trying to stay balanced, dontcha know  ;)) but here I am now.

I've read each of the posts, and do truly enjoy being able to come "in" here and fellowship with you.  One thing I've noticed that I do is read with the accent I think you have.  With Mieka, I hear an oriental accent, Ria, dutch, Iain, English, etc etc.  I've talked with Pat, Etta and Jerry, so I can sorta remember their dialects/accents (or lack thereof).   Don't know why I threw that in there, it won't cost you anything!

Have a good Friday, and I will try to get back in here.  I have to test a homeschooler today (I would really appreciate prayers in dealing with the mother, though I can't go into specifics right now) then Bernard and I are babysitting Brooks tonight while my brother, SIL, and their boys go to the big football game (intercounty rivalry) tonight.  Should be interesting.

It is evening here on the island and I am only now finishing the posts from the 28th.  So many things to encourage and bless the heart.  Thank you Pat for that devotional and this one.

Ria, I hope that you are able to get an English Bible.  Possibly the Billy Graham Assoc. could help....

Iain, I will continue to pray for your health and look forward to the postings you are able to write.  Be strong and let God fill you with His peace.

Hope your medical will turn out well Marilyn.  Right now I am anxious about my daughter and her bone scan.  The X-Rays showed terrible damage to her upper body and arthritis has set into both the upper spine and both hips.  Not a great future for someone in their 40's.  Like you, she is fighting depression.  I am certain that you will both win the battles ahead.  Will pray for you too...

That is a nice site Larry and a great church.  It seems to be doing lots to help people.  No wonder you are so busy.

Must close now.  So God Bless tonight and tomorrow.  Liz.

          Pat

Just popped in before going to bed.  Just had to say, "Iain, don't be too hard on KAMRAT for saying you have an English accent!" ;D >:( :( :o ??? ::)

It is very funny to me Ms Karmat. I know of many who think I do have a accent. But when I talk, there is not a accent at all.   ;D
It is a truth, but very hard for some to believe this of me until I do get to meet them.   :P

Aaahhh MIEKA~ I love your accent.  :P  I can believe you that when you talk you don't have an accent, but ... guess what!... you sure do when you write here!   ;)  You are so loved...don't ever change.

PAT~ I've been here from time to time ... just don't seem to have much to say.  I have read and reread all the posts from everyone ... God will greatly bless you all for your faithfulness to Him.

A nice bright, fresh Good morning everyone.
We've had some rain overnight and all looks good for the day.
Re accents, I live in Birmingham, England which takes the butt of comedians for it's rather nasal accent.
I do NOT  have this accent.  Maybe because my mother was Welsh and my father was from Lincolnshire....also my mother was very strict about our speaking voices.(my sister's and mine).....
Neighbours asked my mother if their children could play with me because of the speaking voice ...This tended to make me feel different and caused a complex. I was very shy and as I was a profoundly deaf child, that didn't help either...I had a few ear ops. later and thank-God can hear better.  Though I do use two hearing aids.
I've a bit of washing to do before I venture forth.  Hope It keeps fine.
          Have a lovely day folks.
          God Bless,
          Jenny.

          Good morning all

You are to hard started. This day i may do nothing when i have t much pain then i must go lying on my bed. But this evening we must away we are coming late

I hope you all have a nice day they have promised us that we are getting rain today and tomorrow we are
          waiting.
Elizabeth i am getting a English Bible NIV.
Karmat yes i am Dutch can you understand what i am saying i know i make a lot mistakes that is also the
reason that i will have an English Bible because i will
not make mistakes the words of God.
And translating the Dutch Bible that is difficult then
          i make mistakes.
God bless you all and is with you this day
May be i come back this day may be not.
          Bye Ria

Good morning, it is looking cloudy perhaps we will be getting rain.

Pat thanks for the devotional this morning.

As for the accents that we have I never felt that in Canada we had one but a number of years ago I was told "Oh yes you have"

          Have a great day

We have broken the heat wave of the last two months and it is so nice this morning.

Pat:  Whew!  On your brake experience!  Don's hand is not mended and open spaces because they worked on it a little more on Wednesday.  He felt discouraged yesterday but I know that he will be fine and this will heal slowly but surely.

          Janet:  Wonderful news about Darrel

Marilyn:  I thought you had a bone scan at your old place.  Gosh, those are awful prices for blood tests.  I am glad that you are caring for yourself!  Do you like the Senior Center?

Larry:  The pool does feel terrific, doesn't it?  I need to get back to the water aerobics at our Senior Center.

Mieka:  I think you must have a California accent.... 8)

Jenny:  Interesting that your mother worked on your speech. Thanks for your note.

          Good morning to you all.

Pat thanks again for the devotions....you are one very busy lady and I thank my God for all the work you put into this sight ......I always come away refreshed...even though I do not often get the time to go through the whole sight........love you....

well today....is a good day in that.....I am forced to slow down and wait upon the Lord for my next move and see what my priorities are and where He wants me to focus and serve Him...

am off now...but I pray that you all have a wonderful and blessed day in the Lord.

Hi everyone.  Just back from our regular Friday morning men's coffee at the senior center.  We had a new man join us today and that is always nice as are group is relatively small.  We just sit and visit and drink coffee for an hour or so.  Very relaxing.  My wife and daughter left a few minutes ago to take our cat, Mr. Tiggers, to the vet for his shots and checkup.  Then at 11 am we are leaving for the pool and will attend the senior's water aerobics.  I am anxious to see if I can tolerate the exercise for 40 minutes.  Of course, they always tell us to work at our own pace.  Pat was anxious to get back to the pool as she always feels better after being in the water.

Pat, a fine devotional and it seems that it was addressing me today.  I guess we all feel that way from time to time.

I particularly liked the poem at the end so am going to quote it again:

QuoteGentle Shepherd, come and lead us,
          for we need You to help us find our way;
Gentle Shepherd, come and feed us,
for we need Your strength from day to day.

Liz and Pat , thanks for the comments on our church webpage.  Someone else started it and did the first page illustration.  However, I have extensively reworked it and added a lot to it.  It is something I will likely be working on several times a week, especially at the beginning of a new month or new quarter when information becomes obsolete.  I think few of our church members were really aware of the site before and we are beginning to involve more people in providing the information and letting it be known that it would be a useful site for them to visit.  I am particularly happy with the Devotional Links section as I felt it added more of a spiritual touch to the page and then I developed the site map link to help folks move around on the site more easily as the more that is added the more some of the information gets layered and thus more difficult to find.  It is a labor of love and something I can do to contribute to my church.

Ria, I certainly don't have a problem in understanding what you write.  I think you do extremely well with your writing.  I can't image trying to write this message in Dutch.  Did you have English in school.

Janet, it was so good to be able to read your praise reports yesterday and hope that such good news helped ease some of the load you have been carrying in your heart.

Good to see the postings from Jenny, Mieka, Jane,  and Karmat.  Am looking forward to dropping in later and reading more messages.

          Marilyn

          Good Morning:
Pat you asked where I was last night. I was at my class, we went to a motel and practiced making beds with a person in the bed, and practiced with the wheel chair. Getting people in and out of the wheel chair, to bed and to a car.
I got home about 8:30 and didn't want to start up the computer I had shut it off earlier.

Mieka it is so good to see you pretty face again and to read your posts. Happy to hear from you again. God Bless you. I guess there are a few of us here with California Accents. Although mine  is a mixture of California and Missouri. As I spent a lot of time with my Grandmother.

Will be back in a little while.

Ruth ~ I am with you.  I can't remember who I was talking to and mentioned that I didn't have an accent when the other person said, 'I love your accent'!!!!  EVERYONE has an accent but me!   ::) 8) 8)

Pat ~ Thanks for the devotional.  We sure do need balance in our time.  Mine right now is like a teeter-totter....seesaw!  Lots of ups and downs.

I am cutting this short today.  I am in a dilemma.  I have water in my basement.  I thought it was from my garbage disposal...I won't tell you what I put in it.  But then I remembered that the night I came home from my trip, I did three loads of laundry.  The next day, I went down to get something from my freezer and thought...my, it must have rained a lot while I was gone.  So I really don't think it is from the garbage disposal.  Now, the utility room and kitchen water goes to the basement and then out in a field tile.  The bathroom goes to a septic system.  I sure hope I don't need the field tile flushed or whatever.  And then, of course, the weekend is coming up!!!  I know this is minor next to some of the other concerns, but frustrating, nevertheless!

Hello everyone, just a short note today.  I haven't been feeling well these past couple of days.  Pat, that devotional was just great timing.  I've been memorizing Psalms 90:12, "Teach us to number our days aright that we may gain a heart of wisdom".  It has a lot to do with balance.

Etta Sue, I hope it's not a serious problem with the water in your basement.  Let us know what happens.

Meika, good to see you posting again.  How was your trip?

Well, I know I haven't mentioned everyone, but I can't really think straight right now, lol.  God bless you all and have a great day.  Jen.

            8) 8) 8)Hello All 8) 8) 8) We have soooo much sun that I needed these shades to write!   I sure would like to see it rain some here.  The temps are high, the outside 'feels-like' is 105 F.  My business involves the cotton crop and now is the time for rain on the buds so they can make.

Thanks, Miss Pat for your continuing to bring these great devotions our way and that song is one I have always liked...Gentle Shepherd.   I dearly love to hear different accents.  I wish I could talke to each of you personally.

Marilyn..I am so proud of you with your new career in being a care-giver.  I will keep up with you and see if there is something around here like that for when I retire and start a different career.

Ria, I pray that the pain you are experiencing will cease soon.  I was reading in the Readers' Digest last night about laughter helping out with the pain people experience.  Although I have never experienced pain as you...I have been discouraged and blue.  (That's when I feel sorry for myself, too.)  If I  get a program that makes me laugh, or read a book that makes me laugh..it sure does pick me up.  I have read a lot of Barbara Johnson's books, Stick a Geranium in Your Hat & Be Happy!, Splashes of Joy in the Cesspools of Life and Living Somewhere Between Estrogen and Death are just a few of them.  Of course, these books are written mostly for women; but the ideas and funnies she has at the end of each chapter are for all of us.  I have copied some of them and put them around the office  just to remember to laugh.
I'm talking too much...must go look at some of the things I have missed.

The writer of this great hymn, Fanny Crosby, lived to be almost ninety-five years of age and during that time penned the staggering total of over eight thousand sacred songs and hymns.

What is even more remarkable is the fact that this great life's work was accomplished without the aid of eyesight.

When she was only six weeks old, baby Fanny Crosby caught a cold. Her eyes became terribly inflamed and a country doctor prescribed, of all things, a mustard poultice. The desperate remedy resulted in the child's immediate blindness.

Even the then famous New York Surgeon, Dr. Valentine Mott, could do nothing to help her. Showing Fanny and her widowed mother to the door after his examination which confirmed the hopelessness of her condition he was heard to lament, 'Poor little blind girl!'

However, Fanny Crosby was to turn her affliction in to an asset and in later years looked upon her blindness as a blessing.

When she was twelve she entered the New York Institute for the Blind and was so successful as a student that in later years, from 1847 until 1858 she taught in the same school.

She began writing poetry at the age of eight with this simple little verse:

Oh, what a happy child I am,
          Although I cannot see!
I am resolved that in this world
          Contented I will be.

It was much later, however, while working at the Institute for the Blind, that she began to develop her talent for writing and to turn it into something profitable.

Her popular, secular verse made her name famous. Such songs as "Rosalie The Prairie Flower" and "There's Music In The Air", were set to music by composer George Root and sold in sheet music by the thousands.

An interesting sidelight here is that the male secretary of the Institute's superintendent used to take down the lines of verse as Fanny Crosby dictated them. In fact, on at least one occasion they were both reprimanded for this 'waste of the school's time.'

That school secretary was called Grover Cleveland and many a time in later years he was to set aside the important affairs of the presidency to take dictation from his welcome White House guest, Fanny Crosby.

She was 44 years old when she gave up secular songs to devote her full energies to sacred compositions. From her prolific pen flowed such popular and all time favourites as "Near The Cross", "Safe In The Arms Of Jesus", "Rescue The Perishing", "Pass Me Not O Gentle Saviour" and "Blessed Assurance".

The story behind the writing of "Blessed assurance" is simple, yet interesting.

One day Miss Crosby was in the home of her friend Mrs Joseph F. Knapp. In the Knapp home was installed what was believed to be the largest pipe organ ever placed in a private dwelling. However, on this particular day Mrs Knapp called her guest over to the piano to listen to a new melody she had just composed. After playing the tune a few times she asked, 'What do you think the tune says?'

"Blessed assurance Jesus is mine", answered Fanny Crosby, and then, drawing from her vast storehouse of Scripture knowledge, continued with

Oh what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

In a very short time a new sacred song was born with words by Fanny Crosby and music by Mrs J. F. Knapp.

Although written as far back as 1873 Blessed Assurance still remains a firm favourite with Christians everywhere.

I have personal, vivid memories of it being sung rousingly at summer beach-meetings and in the open air; its sweet and lively strains wafting over the dear air and telling out the testimony of those who sang ...

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long.
