Morning Devotional...

Part 2 of Iain's devotional...
(Part 1 is here[/b])

Often it is the case that pride will not allow us to humble ourselves to accept God's grace. The next thing that you know is that you are trying to earn God's favour by works or by prayer. Praying earnestly for light - but light is there! Praying for guidance - but you already know the way! Praying for mercy, yet mercy has been given in abundance however not humbly
received! There are even times when we pride ourselves in our humility. What do I mean by that? Well, often when we are walking in 'self made' darkness and armed with certain passages of Scripture like Isaiah 6 and Luke 5 we comfort ourselves with the thoughts that we must be walking closely with God because we are so burdened with our sins. These situations I believe are common to all Christians, yet we wonder why our prayers are not answered.

When, however, we are in real, desperate need and we cry out to God then He promises to answer us. Remember a cry that was made on the cross at Calvary.  It met all the requirements that I have already mentioned. It was real, it was desperate and there was a real need - yet there was no answer from Heaven. Heaven was silent. This will never be the case with us. Christ has paid the penalty due to us for our sins and we are accepted in Him. He was forsaken in order that we would not! No prayer from Hell could be answered!

It was and is impossible!

The people here are told that all those who wait upon the Lord are blessed.  That they should weep no more and that they will dwell in Jerusalem. This is all wonderful news to them, however He warns them that He may give them the bread of adversity and the water of affliction to be their food. This may strange to many of you. It almost seems like a contradiction in terms. On the one hand God is saying that if His people sit still and wait upon Him; He will deliver them in His own way and by His own power from the Assyrians.  Not only deliverance but also they shall dwell in Jerusalem and there will be no further need for weeping.

It is after these promises that He warns them of further affliction and adversity; the difference this time being that it is from His hand. These trials will be for their good and for their eternal benefit. How often has God been gracious to his people with miraculous deliverances only for that same people to forget all about them!

Time and time again the Lord has blessed us in ways that we did not deserve.  He has delivered each one of us from sore and difficult trials. How much thought do we give to God when everything is running smoothly?

When all is well with our health, our families, our employment then what further need do we have for God?

God does not want us to walk at a distance from Him, so in His love for us He feeds us with the bread of adversity and gives us to drink of the waters of affliction. For some chosen saints this may be their portion for many a day and their cross is not any easy one to bear. None of us would have adversity and affliction in our lives if we could avoid it, however for a few this is their portion. The live on the diet of prisoners; bread and water! They are indeed God's prisoners living in God's prison. For some this may sound foreign and strange to you, yet for another it may be their portion just now.

To be continued...

JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE
(Click to hear music)

"We also are weak in Him, yet by
God's power we shall live with Him."
2 Corinthians 13:4

I am weak, but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I'll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

Chorus:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.

Chorus:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

When my feeble life is o'er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o'er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.

Chorus:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Iain

You were all heavy upon my soul this morning as I sought the  face of Jesus. I placed my petitions for you all before Him. He knows all the needs of my friends.

Now a request.

If anyone has any second hand books by A.B.Simpson would they care to pass them on to me. His devotional writings have been so blessed to my soul in recent years that I would like to read more from him.

I would dearly like to get a copy of his biography - if there is such a thing.

He obviously went through the fire to be able to write the way he did. I think that I can benefit much from his experience.

Many thanks

Your brother in Christ

 WELCOME TO LEE..
      IT'S ME JENNY....DO YOU REMEMBER?
                  COME BACK SOON

Gosh I really must pop in later these coming days.  Seems I miss all the fun...
I've just looked at the later posts from yesterday.

Now then. , JUDY.  Thanks for the concern which I read in your Post for me to eat well., DULY NOTED MA'AM.  Is she normally this bossy Pat?  It's usually the "big" sister routine and don't I know it.

I was Interested in Pastor's reply re the Trinity and I have found it very helpful to recite the old  ATHANASIAN CREED.

"The Father is made of none; neither created nor begotten.
The Son is made of the Father alone; not made nor created, but begotten.
The Holy Ghost is of the Father and of the Son; neither made, nor created, nor begotten but proceeding.
And in this Trinity none is afore or after other ; none is greater or less than another;
But the whole three persons are co-eternal together; and co-equal.............

For the right faith is , that we believe and confess ; that Our Lord Jesus Christ , the Son of God is God and Man..
God of the substance of His Father , begotten before all worlds; and Man of the substance of his mother; born in the world...............

One altogether, not by confusion of substance ; but by Unity of Person".

This is a very long Creed and I read it often.  It is My Creed.

Let me state I am a born-again Anglican.  Once an Anglican always an Anglican.  Though I do have a Pentecostal Tee-shirt, literally! I was baptised Anglican as a baby and by full immersion Born Again 15 years ago.

I do pray for Papa John this day.  May all go well with him...In Jesus' Name. Amen!

Until later.
The Peace of God be with you all.
Jenny.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  I had a good nights rest and feel revived on this cool but beautiful Georgia morning.  Pat and I are going to water aerobics about an hour from now and then I have to go to the Senior Center to coach the files management class again today and then again on Wednesday.  Yesterday I had to replace the ink cartridge in my printer and then my printer wouldn't print.  I finally got it cleaned this morning and it is working fine.  There is something wrong with my scanner as it puts a big dark strip down each page and thus makes the items scanned unusuable.  I have only had it for less than 2 years but guess I will have to replace it as I use it a lot for my volunteer webpage work.  I called to see about repair and it costs $20 just to send it in to see what it would cost to fix it so don't feel it is worth the expense as scanners aren't that expensive anymore.

Ria, certainly a sad situation about the young man who committed suicide and now his parents have turned against God.  This certainly wasn't the work of God and it is only through God that the parents will ever find peace.  So sad.

Welcome Lee Kirkwood.  I look forward to seeing you posting in the days ahead.

Jenny, I had never seen that Creed you quoted and I like it.  We use the Apostles' Creed in each of our worship services.

Iain, I have not heard of the writing of A. B. Simpson.  I will have to keep an eye out for them.  I am really enjoying reading each day from "The Complete Works of Oswald Chambers".  Your devotional thoughts today are also very thought provoking and I look forward to the next part.

Papa John, Pat and I are keeping you in our prayers as you undergo surgery tomorrow.

Hi to everyone that joins us later today.

Marilyn

Good Morning everyone. Another foggy morning here on the Lost Coast.

Thank you Brother Iain for your wonderful devotional this morning. And thak you Pat for posting it for Iain. Also for the song A closer walk with thee. Another of my favorite songs.  BTW Do you have "Where Can I go?

Isn't it nice that Lee has finally joined us here? I've looked forward to that for several months.

Yesterday during our prayer meeting before church, the director of the Teen Challenge program  read Hebrews 13:3. It stuck with  me so much that  I posted it from the Message Bible in the prayer thread for Victor Oliver. This morning it is still running through my head. I hope you all will look it up in your Bibles.

Al Moak

Mieka - in death our spirits go immediately into Christ's presence.  Our bodies will be recreated and follow later.  We will not, however, be like the Trinitarian God, for we do not image Him in that way.  We image God (are like Him) only in righteousness and holiness (Rom. 3:24), not in being or substance.  I hope this is understandable.  I would say it in Chinese if you will teach me, but as of now I'm not able.

Al Moak

Welcome, Lee.  I pray you'll be refreshed in coming here, just as I have been.

I do thank you very much that you help me. It is not easy for me to undarstand it yet but I do know it more with all the help from everyone here at the CP.
I did read it in the "Manna For The Soul" too. Ms Soni did ask about this many weeks ago too. I did not know it, but now I do.  8) It was a help to read of it there too.

Hi Ms Etta Sue  ;D

Etta Sue

Sarah ~ Glad to see you posting.  I feel the Holy Spirit is nudging you in the right direction.  Follow the Father and His Son.  You know what is right and wrong....now just do it!

I really enjoyed reading about the trinity.  I like to simplify things and then I can understand the deeper things better.

Great devotions this morning.  Really food for thought.

Now,

RAH! RAH! SIS BOOM BAH!  HURRAY FOR DUMP CAKE!That recipe is really making its rounds.

Larry ~ I had to make another run for a color cartridge yesterday.  The 'yellow' girl was absent the day my cartidge was filled.  At least, I couldn't get yellow to come out.  But now my printer is fine.  AND I had to buy a new scanner this year also.  Really great.  Ordered it from Tiger Direct, got it in a day or two.  With the rebate, it was only $29.95 + shipping.  It is a Canon.

Jerry and I have some business to take care of today in Anderson.  Then we are going to let the Chinese rest today and eat Mexican.

Good morning, everyone!  I have been enjoying your conversation here, and IAIN's devotional ... Thanks, IAIN and PAT for all that you do and write here ... it really helps, and I love the songs.  I have also enjoyed the discussion and enlightenment from everyone in adressing MIEKA's questions.

This seems to be a good place for language lessons all of a sudden!  We have RIA teaching Dutch and now here comes MIEKA with Chinese!   :D

RIA~You asked about my grandson and his deployment to Iraq ... I have not heard anything more since the first word that he is scheduled to go "in October." Thank you for your prayers.  I will let you know just as soon as I hear anything.

I already have another grandson over there.  Tim has been in Iraq since April.  He is my eldest grandson (will be 30 in Dec.) and Brian is the youngest of the three.  He is 17.  (I also have 5 granddaughters--and 5 great grandchildren!)

I need to get to work and clean house and maybe do a little shopping in preparation for the memorial this evening for our friend who went to be with the Lord last Monday.  Then, the women who meet on Thursdays have decided to change the time to afternoon and the meeting place to my home, so I should prepare (at least a little) for that, too.  ::)

I'm going to check out the other forums and I'll be back when I can get here ...  Y'all take care now, y'hear?   :D
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

I am usually away from my computer and work on Monday; but I am glad to be here today.

So many postings to catch up on.

A great big PRAISE THE LORD for Papa John's home coming; I will continue my prayers for you and your family during your upcoming surgery.

A big welcome to LEE and I hope he brings Vivian with him.

Please visit with us and enlighten us as to your whereabouts and your wonderful knowledge of the bible.

You will find willing listeners here who have been sharing their Christian love for the LORD.

I still bless dear AL for sending me this way; a warm glow happens every time I am here.

I will head over to Prayer forum and then to the "kitchen"

Hi Everyone...

Just a big "HELLO" to you all this morning/afternoon (depending on where you live).  I'm so busy and I had a wild night last night!

I have no idea how many times I tried to go to sleep but sleep wouldn't come so I posted photos here on CP for y'all and I did some SeniorNet work and in between times I tried sleeping.

So I made some hot rolled oats porridge at about 4:30 am and went back to bed and finally drifted off to sleep!

But then Geordie needed to go out at 7:30 am so I got up and then went and lay down again!

Ohhhhh...  what a night!

Well, I'm here now but so much to do.

Talk to you all later.

Lots of Ruthie's photos over in our Photographs Here area and some of Lee Kirkwood's as well!

I don't go to work today until noon, so I have just left this computer on CP and come back every now and then to see what new posts there are.

Joyce it is so good to see you back here, I have missed your lovely posts you express your love for our Lord so sweetly.

Pat I was noticing the times of your postings of  the photos earlier and thought of you being up so early/late.

Isn't it wonderful that Ruthie is sharing her paintings with us? And her lovely Photos.

Lee's photos are awesome too of his trip to BC. I am wondering if he saw the damage of the fires that Elizabeth told us about.

Papa John, I am sure you are looking in on us today. You have my sympathy having to drink that cocktail today, before going back to the hospital tomorrow. I am still praying for you.

Hi Marilyn

THanks for your kind words.

I have a hard time posting too often; but know I am here reading and enjoying most of the postings that I can see as time allows.

My heart is so heavy sometimes from all the pain that I see here; but my soul quickens and fill with love when I see the responses to the suffering of others here.

You are such a fine great of folks; you probably don't even know when you are touching so many.

Mieka, your simplicity with your words and deep provoking questions bring about so many response of our Heavenly Father's love.

Etta, every time your post comes up and your picture shows it has a great deal of depth to your concern for others.

I know that I shouldn't have started saying names; so I will stop because I will forget some one.

And I don't want to do that because EACH and EVERYONE OF YOU have contributed to my being for the day.

I know that the good LORD must be smiling at us all and I know that the Holy SPirit living inside of me swells with joy at the sound of CHristians praising HIS love and bringing your prayer concerns here.

Bless you all

Love in CHrist,

Joyce

Oh Joyce that was lovely........it gave me a warm thrill.
Knowing you feel the way we all do about each other.

Lee I am so glad you are coming.  Do post soon....I came over from S.N.  Thanks Pat!

Larry. the CREED OF ST. ATHANASIUS is the longer version of the Apostles Creed. It can be found in any 1662 Book of Common Prayer.  Or in the R.C. Prayer Book.  I of course have the Amended Book of Common Prayer....The Church of England. (Anglican Church in U.S.)  There are some very cheap copies in print.  If I had an address I would send you one if you cannot get one....Let me know! This is the clearest expression of the Trinity I have found and it's so old!  Sometimes in the churches we cast out the baby with the bathwater!

Jane my thoughts and prayers continue for your dear grandsons. Please God for a miracle over the Iraq situation!

Pat you sound like me...I get to bed late and then little Sunday Dog decides to get restless so down we come and I cannot get to sleep again so I give up and come down here and do other things!

I've been to the park this afternoon.  It's very cold but I needed to see Sidney..He's my 91 year old friend.  I made him an apple pudding yesterday and he enjoyed it..........well I was making one for us and I just popped an extra one in  the oven.  HE'S SO SPECIAL.

The sky was full of stars at 4 a.m. this morning and I almost thanked Sunday dog for bringing me down to see it......The work of His hands.........AMAZING. A sign also of the cold weather on the way! Sorry Ria and Ruth Ann but it is coming now!

I am going to get the chicken stew onto the plates now.  It smells good and I am hungry.  Please note Judy!

Blessings and love,
If anyone feels forgotten I am sorry, Nudge me in my mail box.
Jenny.

I am stopping by to greet all of you in the name of Jesus!

It seems Mondays always bring lots of errands to do.  I had a neighbor who used to say "If you don't get anything done on Monday, you won't get anything done all week!"  And sometimes it seems to be true.

I don't have much to say today, just that I love you all, and I love CP!

I feel like singing.  Do you?

Until Then

(Click to hear music)

Words and music by Stuart Hamblen

My heart can sing when I pause to remember
A heartache here is but a stepping stone
Along a trail that's winding always upward,
This troubled world is not my final home.

Chorus
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I'll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
The things of earth will dim and lose their value
If we recall they're borrowed for awhile;
And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble,
Remembered there will only bring a smile.

The things of earth will dim and lose their value
If we recall they're borrowed for awhile;
And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble,
Remembered there, will only bring a smile.

Chorus
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I'll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
The things of earth will dim and lose their value
If we recall they're borrowed for awhile;
And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble,
Remembered there will only bring a smile.

This weary world with all its toil and struggle
May take its toll of misery and strife:
The soul of man is like a waiting falcon--
When it's released, it's destined for the skies.

Chorus:
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I'll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
The things of earth will dim and lose their value
If we recall they're borrowed for awhile;
And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble,
Remembered there will only bring a smile.
