Another busy Christmas?
"Just as being too busy gives you nightmares..."
Ecclesiastes 5:3 NLT
Christmas Slippers
While we are called to work hard, we must make sure that our work doesn't so preoccupy us that we endanger our health, our relationships, or our time with God.1
A woman died, leaving behind her husband and one daughter. The little girl soon became the very apple of her daddy's eye. He loved to spend time with her, but because he had to work, they had only their evenings together. After dinner each night they would talk and play games; sometimes she sang for him. He treasured every moment.
One night the little girl announced, "Daddy, I need to go to my room early tonight. I have something I have to do!"
He felt very disappointed, but he let her go. She continued this pattern for a solid month. Finally, Christmas Day arrived, and early in the morning she burst in on her daddy and proudly displayed a pair of crude crocheted slippers she had made for him. It was this project that had taken her away from her father for every evening that month.
Her father thanked her warmly and gave her a big hug, but then he said, "Honey, I would rather have had you with me all those lonely evenings than to have these slippers, as beautiful and comfortable as they are."
[As in the story of Martha and Mary], God wants our presence more than our slippers. He wants our devotion more than our work. It really is a matter of balance.2
How often this Christmas have we been "too busy" to spend time with those we love? Our gift of time is most valuable!

Beside the Manager Here I Stand (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/christmas/beside-the-manager-here-i-stand.mid)

By Paul Gerhardt
Beside thy manger here I stand
Dear Jesus, Lord and Savior
A gift of love within my hand
To thank Thee for Thy favor
O take my humble offering
my heart, my soul, yes, everything
Is Thine to keep forever.
With joy I gaze upon Thy face;
Thy glory and Thy splendor
Is greater than my heart can praise
And songs can fitly render.
O how I wish my mind would be
As boundless as the deepest sea,
T'would still be lost in wonder.
O grant me this abundant grace -
I hope t'will meet Thy pleasure -
That I might be Thy dwelling place,
Dear Savior Sweetest Treasure.
O Let me be Thy manger-bed
Then shall I lift my lowly head
With joy beoyand all measure.

:) Judy B. Thanks for the devotional and that song which I do not know. It is a beautiful story about the dedication of the little girl to finish her project for her father. May you all have a wonderful and blessed day today. Your bro in the Lord. Gordon.
To all others that happen to come onto the site today may the Lord richly bless you and keep you and give you a wonderful Christmas day. Praise his Name and thank you all for remembering my wife and I in prayer this year. God bless and good day. Gordon and Noreen. :) :cp: :bananadance: :pine:
Merry Christmas to everyone. We have a foggy day but hopefully the storm predicted for Georgia will wait until later this evening after our son and DIL get safely back to their home in South Carolina. They just called and are off the Interstate and about 30 minutes away. The kitchen is ready and the foods are prepared as much as can be. We just remembered the mud pie cake that was in the freezer and don't know whether it will thaw out by lunch time or not. No matter as there will be plenty of other goodies to eat. The presents are around our little tree so just awaiting the arrival of our son and his wife.
Callie, the storms across the SE, including Oklahoma sound pretty bad. Hope you can have your Christmas get together before too much snow arrives.
Jerry, the person giving you the Russell Stover candy gets the pure joy of giving and that is a nice gift. I just opened the big bag of Russell Stove Caramel Delights my friend gave me to share with the family today.
deAngel, I am willing to bet it won't be the food your friends will remember about today but the warmth of your friendship.
Joan, beautiful graphics and presentation of the nice things you have for us today. Thanks.

Janice, I wonder if she got a black widow spider bite. I had a friend who was very sick with such a bite. It does sound like Kat has had more than a plateful of problems this year.

Happy birthday, Jesus!
Remember Larry, Kitty is the one that turned down the volume on her radio in her car because she didn't know how to turn it off. I pushed the same button she turned and it went off! Kitty and Bob are the type of people who buy things with all the bells and whistles and never learns how to use them. Their VCR's always flashed '12:00'. They just purchased a Smart TV but bet they will only use the power button, the volume button and the change channel button! She has found where to change her camera from RAW to .jpg. Funny, these pictures I converted...about 8 in the middle of them were .jpg!! If it can be fouled up, Kitty can do it!! I love her to pieces though!
Merry Christmas everyone! Ivalou, Teresa, Doug and I went to Candlelight Christmas Eve Service last evening at church. The church was so pretty with dim lights and all the decorations and candles lit. Pastor Steve gave us a heartfelt message.
I am praying that everyone traveling has safe travels...whether it is miles and miles or only a few feet!

It is very early here and I have been awake for hours. Misty, my cat is curled up asleep beside me. Find the iPad really helps with awake time as can play games while still in bed. Misty is not concerned with it being Christmas Day....
My SIL'S sister two girls and grand baby are coming for dinner so that will be nice. My SIL is ill with a lingering cold so he still feels tired and has to work a few hours in his business, so hope he will still enjoy the day.
Now 7AM so time to go and let in the neighbours cat for his breakfast. After 7yrs he should be our cat, but they are kind of strange people....just saying! :)
Very Merry Christmas to all and god Bless.
Merry Christmas. it is a pleasure to say christmas. Weare in Arizona after one of our easiest drives just ahead of snow and wind. Semi settled but quiet without Internet phone or tv. Reading and cooking soup and a casserole today but here we are at a Denny's for the wifi.
We left before Christmas because all four children had travel plans some with inlaws this year. never want this to happen again but we did havea fantastic gathering las Friday night and got ourselves up to drive at 4:30 am.
the cultist little quail are in the yard. Those little bobble heads are so fun to watch.
Tomorrow we will get the church calendar and check out things. Meanwhile our home church has podcasts we can view and listen to weekly sermons.
Take care
Hi everyone. I will post this evening as will be busy tomorrow morning getting Stacey back to her apartment with her gifts and putting the vacuum cleaner together, which should be very easy as it is assembled in the box except for the attachments. Then I have an appointment down the street from her apartment to have my pacemaker/defibrillator checked. So it will be early afternoon before I can get back home.
We had a delightful time today with our family. We had a simple but more than ample lunch and had enough food for several others. We sent home a ham and part of all the left overs and will similarly send Stacey home tomorrow. It seems the gifts were abundant this year. Pat gave me a ice cream freezer that makes a quart and a half of ice cream or sorbet. I also got a couple of nice gift cars for Apple and Amazon. One of the gifts we gave to each of the kids was a large bag of paper products that we all use and can be costly on a small budget. It isn't late but am tired for will soon retire for the night.
Etta Sue, I have found that some people are a bit technically challenged. It is always enjoyable to be able to help someone with a question or problem. I find with my accounting background and prior work life that I I tend to think things through logically and that is very helpful in working with computers and the software that goes with them.
Carol, nice to read you had an easy trip to Arizona and beat the stormy weather.
Liz, obviously the cat likes to spend time with you and you must treat it very well.
Merry Christmas, everyone! It is getting late, but still enough left of the day to get my wishes to you (and you will likely not see this until morning!) Diane, Jeff, Mark and Abby just left a little bit ago. We had such a nice day with them, and Curtis, Toni and the three little girls were here in the afternoon, too. Beth and John were here as well, so we had a houseful today. We had cooked all morning and had plenty of food for both dinner and supper, with lots left over, as Diane brought a lot of food, too.
We played games, visited, opened packages, ate, and some watched TV. Now all is quiet, most of the dishes are washed and put away, the extra leaves taken out of the table again, etc. But there is a big garbage bag of discarded wrapping to go to the trash!
And we had a white Christmas! It had snowed some when we got up, and it snowed on and off all day, so there are several inches of the white stuff on the ground now. Thank you Lord!
Good to read what you all did today! And Happy Birthday, Jesus! Thank you for coming!
Hi, friends,
I'm here for the first time in a few days. It was a lovely Christmas, and an eventful day (as far as weather goes) for a drive back to Tennessee. It's always great to be with family.
Now, time to take a couple of days to rest before picking back up with all the busy-ness of life itself.
Y'all have a wonderful rest of this day with our Lord.
Ruth Ann
I was happy to be with my best friend, Nita, for a brief get-together with her family, and then to her house for a good visit. It is so good to be with loved ones on these holidays.
I will be back to basics tomorrow, but basking in the memories of love and good cheer with good friends and happy wishes for the year to come.
Larry, the baby food cake is very moist and delicious. One of the ingredients is pureed baby food, choice varies. Plum or prune is good. So is applesauce/blueberry.
It is usually baked in a bundt pan but can also be a 9x13 pan.
Just Google 'baby food cake' for recipe.
Good morning to all, this day after Christmas. I once heard someone say "there is nothing 'more over' than Christmas".
I think I know what they mean. but I can't agree. That is the world' s view, not our Savior' s.
Hi everyone. It is nice to see that all had a nice Christmas time as we did. We had some heavy rain during the night but by this morning it had ended and is turning colder. I had a good trip to Atlanta to take Stacey home. She asked if one of the maintence men would help us with the heavy items and he got their repair cart and he got the things out the car trunk and back seat. He then took them up to her apartment with me and I could bring down her wheelchair. I had to go down and move the car from in front of the building as needed to go back to her apartment and put her new vacuum together, which was easy, put some other things away for her and then I took the two empty boxes with me as I left so dispose of here next week. I was on time for my pacemaker check and all went well. I then stopped at Walmart to pick up one thing that Pat needed and that wasn't bad either. I am now finishing up my lunch and will take a nap or rest this afternoon.
Janet, glad you finally are getting some snow as long as it isn't the blizzard that some places seem to be getting.
Ruth Ann, glad you are safely back at your apartment and can rest for a couple of days.
Jane, glad you didn't spend the day alone but could share the day with Nita.
Janice, I have never heard of the baby food cake before. Thanks for the information.
(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi195.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz77%2FEttaSue%2FCP%2FAnis%2FDancingBear.gif&hash=5390dcb8267c553c3bb6c9c9c4b05e89a0df8c5a)
This dancing bear is over-joyed because I have all the Christmas decorations down, thrown away and/or boxed...except the red bows on my deck! That doesn't mean I am done. I have red stars all over the floor from some garland so I need to sweep. But I am taking a break!
The heat pump guy called and cancelled for today! Indiana is getting a day after Christmas White Christmas!! Wind is blowing, snow is coming down sideways and drifting! Prediction of 6" to 10" but so far not that much! It is pretty but glad I don't have to get out in it. Most of my windows are plastered on the outside with snow/ice! Glad this wasn't yesterday since so many of Ivalou's family lives in Ohio...about 2-2½ hours away!
Ivalou's house was huffing and puffing with all the people. She had a table of 14 set and three card tables of 4 chairs each! There were a few times when everyone was talking at once and I felt like I wanted to get away. I saw Ivalou cringe also. Us old folks doesn't like all that noise! When Teresa was here a few weeks ago, they went through Ivalou Christmas decorations and bagged then in Christmas bags. Yesterday Jo took an old calendar and cut out the numbers. Then everyone drew a number. They got to choose a bag or steal someone elses bag. I got tickled...one of the boy friends got a frilly, ruffle-y angel. Before he left, he put it on top of Ivalou's Christmas tree so she still has that little angel. It was fun seeing the reactions of everyone. She had some nice things and some of them were 'what was someone thinking?' when they gave this to Ivalou as a gift!
Well, better find some lunch and then tackle the sweeper! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I wrote a note to all of you from the library and it went poof so now I can actually say that internet and phone is hooked up here in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Oldest son is driving from Fort Worth back to Denver today. I don't know about the roads but we left just to miss several days of snow storms back home. Just in time.
Christmas was lonely without the children but they all managed to call on the cell phone. Daughter & family were hiking and on the beach in Kauai, Hawaii. An all free trip for them except the rental car and that was expensive on this Christmas week - oh, they have free breakfasts but have gone to the grocery store otherwise. It pays to be a frequent flyer but the cost to family life is so great - I lived like that with Don's travel for years and it isn't easy. One son is so happy with the snow, he is in the mountains and another son is hosting in-laws.
We also missed a huge hubbub over a neighbor driving through another neighbor's garage door and hitting gas line as well - firetrucks, lots of police, the whole street was lit up. Every time we go, something happens.
I have already forgotten what was posted in here with so many interuptions but do send along my best thoughts and prayers for each of you.
Etta Sue, what a great idea to dispose of no longer wanted Christmas decorations, having fun while doing it! Glad you had a good Christmas, too.
It got a little noisy here, too, at times, but not anything that really bothered me. I expect that when the family gets together. Some talk very loudly, making me want to say "Could you please tone it down?" but I haven't (yet!) The two little girls, 2 and 5 years old, were a delight to watch opening their gifts. The baby isn't old enough to do that yet--but just wait 'till next year! ;)
I meant to spend the afternoon just reading--between changing laundry loads--but fell asleep, so had a good nap. Can't hurt, right?
Larry, glad the trip to Stacey's didn't wear you out too bad, and am glad the maintenance man helped with the packages. Glad your pacemaker check went okay, too.
Carol, you have been so blessed, as we have, to have always had your kids home for Christmas, until this year. I'm sure it was different for you. Hugs... <3 I feel bad that our youngest no longer seems to even want to be home for Christmas, but it is her decision, and we have to accept it.
I was a little sad watching Beth. She seems to be losing strength, and it is getting harder to understand her speech, too. But John is such a wonderful help while he is here, and keeps her spirits up. She doesn't seem "down" at all, though, and I have to wonder at her inner strength. She wanted to hold the baby so bad, so I moved her hands, sat little Jenna on her chest and helped her hold her for a while. The baby just looked at her with those big dark eyes, and cooed and "talked' to her. Sure made Beth's day! :)
I think my last load of laundry is dry now,so will go fold it and maybe try reading again for a while.
WE made it home through all the hard rain that hit us after we crossed over into Oregon. Some of it was so think it was difficult to see through the windshield. The critter are all back home (dogs) and were all very happy to see us. We have a wonderful visit with Gilbert and the family on Christmas eve and then over to Ann's for Christmas day. We had a wonderful visit with just Ann before the kids got there. Tomorrow it will be back to every day life I am going to go over the the BLM office and get my Golden-Age pass though, then I have to work both weekend days.
Welcome home, Marilyn!
Hi, friends, it's always great to be able to come here once again.
Today, my two oldest sons and I had lunch together. How WONDERFULLY MARVELOUS is our Lord, who touched both of them today. :)
Love to all,
Ruth Ann
Hi everyone. It is now 34 degrees and we had a strong wind all night but no more rain. Only to get into the high 40s today. Guess it must be wintertime in Georgia. In a little bit Pat and I are going out to breakfast at Steak and Shake, where we haven't gone for several weeks. I will also return one of the quilting rulers I gave her for Christmas as she doesn't feel she will use it as it makes scalloped edges to the quilt. If she decides later to try such an edge she will repurchase the ruler. I also need to take the new necklace into the jewelry store to get a magnetic clasp put on it as the fastener is so tiny she can't really handle it. Finally a trip to the bank should complete my out of the house choirs. I have several things to do at my desk and that will likely be my day.
Etta Sue, sounds like winter has arrived up your way. Glad you can stay in and have another source of heat. Your gift exchange with Ivalou's family sounds like fun but sometimes it is hard to keep something you really like. We have usually limited the exchange feature to three times.
Carol, was you neighbor ill or intoxicated or something to do such a thing? That sounds like the kind of excitement to miss. Sure glad it wasn't your house with you being away. It sounds like your family is having a lot of except perhaps you son who had to drive from Fort Worth.
Janet, we have gotten a number of pictures of our great grandchldren opening their gifts and one of the cutest was a youngest one who was sitting astride of his package as if it were a riding toy, which it wasn't. It is the little ones that make Christmas so much fun around the tree. Glad you were able to get a nap. Wondereful that you found a way for Beth to hold the baby and I bet it made Beth very happy.
Marilyn, glad to see you are safely home and had such a good time on your trip with family and friends. I have a Golden Age pass but have no idea what I have done with it. I think I got it at Estes Park with my handicapped placard and at no cost.
Ruth Ann, sure having lunch with your two sons was extra special. Hope you are getting rested up from your trip.
Hello everyone! Was a quiet Christmas here as usual. We don't have kids and the inlaws children are grown and busy with their own families. My sister and both my brothers called. It as nice to hear from them. My sister and her husband are heading to Florida near the end of January for a stay of 3 months. Nice for them to be able to escape this cold and snow. One of my brothers has a daughter living in NC so they will be going down to see her and her family the end of February. My other brother is a long haul trucker so he has seen most of Canada and a lot of the U.S. He told me he has no desire to go south in the winter so he might as well keep "trucking" for as long as he is able.
Well today and into tomorrow night we are getting the storm that swept the mid eastern states and the weather man says we are to get the same storm that is coming down from Ontario. Nice! No, not really as we are expecting winds up to 90. That will cause some nice high drifts. They were forcasting freezing rain and hail but I think now that is heading off to Grand Manan.
Enough of the maritime weather woes.
Tree is still up. I was going to take it down today but will wait now until after the storm. I portioned off the turkey and gravy this morning and that is all in the freezer. Nice quick meals for later. No baking today. I took out a white cake from the freezer and will put brown sugar fudge frosting on that later today. DH like that type of frosting and it is easy to make.
Well, enough ramblings from me.
Have a great day and may you find joy, peace and direction as you walk with Christ.
Christina

I got the house all swept and the furniture in the living room repositioned. My couch is the farthest away from the TV than it has ever been before. I had to turn up the volume on the TV last night!
I was crocheting and I heard a motor noise. I investigated and saw someone plowing out Ivalou's drive. I thought it was nephew, Nick. Then he came to my drive. Not nephew Nick! I couldn't tell who it was. I called Ivalou and she said it was one of the church members that lives a couple of miles away. I called Adam to the door for him to come in and warm up but he said that would be worse than staying out in the cold. I offered him money but he refused that, too! So I told him I would put it in the offering Sunday. He gave me a hug for that! So the offering will be richer this Sunday!
And now that we can get out, I plan to leave at 2pm and go to the pool. Then to Dollar General and to the bank...maybe a cappuccino and home. Then at 5pm, Ivalou and I are going to Noblesville to a visitation at the funeral home for Jan's...a Euchre player...mother. She passed away in Florida the day we played Euchre, Dec 18th. The visitation is tonight followed by a Memorial Service and burial will tomorrow morning. Never heard of a body being held this long before. Wonder if the casket will be open?
That's it for now. Weather in Indiana? Cool. 29°. No wind and sunny! The snow/ice is melting on the pavements but not in the grass. I can see grass in the front yard but also can see a drift of about 3 feet! SIN NO MORE SIN NO MORE SIN NO MORE SIN NO MORE
(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi195.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz77%2FEttaSue%2FCP%2FDailys%2F%253Cbr%2520%2F%253ERyst.gif&hash=a3645bae7315bb1ca5a3e7ca7a5fc39b49cd3cbb)
Guess what! It's winter! :D So far we have 8 inches of snow and there's more to come. A neighbor has been out with the snow blower and did my driveway, but with that 8 inches on top of the car I sure won't be going anywhere for a while. It's accumulating on the porches to the point that in order to be sure I'll be able to open the doors in case of emergency I have to keep pushing them out to clear some away. :)

Once In Royal Davids City (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/christmas/once-in-royal-davids-city.mp3)
(Click to hear music)
Words: Cecil F. Alexander, Hymns for Little Children, 1848.
Music: Irby, Henry J. Gauntlett, 1849
Once in royal David's city
Stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her Baby
In a manger for His bed:
Mary was that mother mild,
Jesus Christ her little Child.
He came down to earth from Heaven,
Who is God and Lord of all,
And His shelter was a stable,
And His cradle was a stall;
With the poor, and mean, and lowly,
Lived on earth our Savior holy.
And, through all His wondrous childhood,
He would honor and obey,
Love and watch the lowly maiden,
In whose gentle arms He lay:
Christian children all must be
Mild, obedient, good as He.
For He is our childhood's pattern;
Day by day, like us He grew;
He was little, weak and helpless,
Tears and smiles like us He knew;
And He feeleth for our sadness,
And He shareth in our gladness.
And our eyes at last shall see Him,
Through His own redeeming love,
For that Child so dear and gentle
Is our Lord in Heav'n above,
And He leads His children on
To the place where He is gone.
Not in that poor lowly stable,
With the oxen standing by,
We shall see Him; but in Heaven,
Set at God's right hand on high;
Where like stars His children crowned
All in white shall wait around.

On the 24th in the morning we picked up Heather and her family took them to Duchaney Falls for family pictures. I decided to share them here so you all can see them..
[attach=1]
There happened to be a professional photographer there as well taking pictures of the local TV He walked further up the falls and took a video of the water running over the ice.
WE had a wonderful time in the cold, there was lots of laughter and teasing from everyone. (I wore a red hat so my hair wouldn't blend in with the snowy background.)
[attach=2]
Later in the day we went to a friend's home for a afternoon of crafts and a gift exchange. The 3 children made wreaths to hang on their bedroom doors. This was time I cherished with these young'uns!
On Christmas Day Heather and the gang came over with their (not officially) adopted son. Again there was lots of laughter and appreciation for the gifts given and received. I must say this was one of the best Christmas's in recent history.
Judy, it sounds as though your Christmas was really blessed.
Judy what a nice way to send Christmas.
Marilyn: Glad that your trip home was safe. It isn't easy to drive in heavy rain.
Janet: How sweet a picture you painted of Beth holding the new baby. A big hug for you.
JudyB: The pictures are great. Very nice family pictures to keep. Love your red sweater and hat.
Larry: It sounds like your Christmas was very nice as well. I understand about Pat wanting to return that special ruler - kudos to her for making any scalloped edge on a quilt.
We are still setting things up here and I spent a couple of hours oiling and coaxing my old Singer Featherweight machine to run smoothly once again. Shame on me for ignoring that 1940 something machine. Hearing from the cousins in Washington and Minnesota and several are leaving this weekend, pending snow in the mountains or snow in the midwest.
Hi, Friends,
I'm thankful for a peaceful day - with the afternoon being spent with my oldest son.
Now, it's early to bed so that I can take a lady to the doctor early tomorrow morning.
Y'all have a good rest of the day with our Lord.
Love to all,
Ruth Ann
Hi everyone. It is still dark here in the Atlanta area and pretty chilly outside. My plans for what I wanted to accomplish yesterday got pushed back a bit as friends called around noon and invited us over for coffee and Christmas dessert. There was another couple from our church their who we know from our Bible study group and they also go to lunch with us on Sunday on occasion. We had a very enjoyable couple of hours of conversation and having some cookies and nuts. Today is the day I have been waiting for as I am eligible for a new phone and plan on getting a new iPhone. The android phone I have had for the last 18 months has become unreliable in the last few months and seems to fail whenever I really need it to work. Other than to go to coffee this morning that will be the big activity of the day.
Chrisie, that 90 MPH wind sounds a bit scary. Hope you aren't covered up with snow from the storm. One of the things I love about living in Georgia is that we seldom have any problems with snow or ice and if we do can stay in until the roads and walks are clear. Did you ever make a hot milk cake? That was my grandfather's favorite cake with a caramel icing that grandma made for it.
Etta Sue, so nice of your neighbor to plow your drive.
Jeanne, I remember you having to keep the snow away from your door before so that you could get out if necessary.
An explanation on the hymn "Once in Royal David's City" not having any music accompanying it. I have the music ready but haven't been able to upload it to the CP server. Pat is working on the problem for me. Something has been changed that she nor I know of so are seeing further help. So just hum along in your mind as you read the words as expect the tune is familiar to most of us.
Judy, sounds like you had a great family outing but also that it was pretty cold and also a great Christmas Day with some of your family.
Carol, we did return the scalloped edge ruler to Joanne's yesterday so don't expect to be seeing any quilts with such edges. She just bought some new fabric rolls so when she gets to feeling better she will be able to start on another quilt.
I see that I didn't post yesterday! That is unusual for me. But I was really sick yesterday, which is also unusual, thank God. My insides were really in turmoil, all day and most of the night. Makes me once again be so very thankful for my usual excellent health!
I'm feeling sore, head achy and wrung out this morning, but at least am not running to the bathroom every few minutes! I will be back later.........
Well we are back at it today. We have decided to move John's desk and put my sewing "stuff" into the room he calls an office. That will give me storage for my sewing and a place to actually work at it!! That way I can close the door when I am done for the day!
One thing I have come to the conclusion about. The pioneers did not build in closets or storage places to hand clothes or put linnens and towels away. There is NO storage in this house!!!
I have posted a couple more shots of Duchaney in the winter at the end of this link. http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=11750.new#new
John is looking for help, be back later!

Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior,
which is Christ the Lord
Luke 2:11
Words: Possibly from a 14th Century Benedictine processional from the monastery of St. Georg, Hradlisch, near Olm'uer natus in Bethlehem.
Music: composer unknown
Â
A Babe is born in Bethlehem, Bethlehem,
Therefore rejoice Jerusalem,
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Within a manger He doth lie, He doth lie,
Whose throne is set above the sky.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Stillness was all the manger round, manger round,
The creature its Creator found.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
The wise men came, led by the star, by the star,
Gold, myrrh, and incense brought from far.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
His mother is the virgin mild, virgin mild,
And He the Father?s only Child.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
The serpent?s wound He beareth not, beareth not,
Yet takes our blood, and shares our lot,
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Our human flesh He enters in, enters in,
But bears no single taint of sin.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
To fallen man Himself He bowed, self He bowed,
That He might lift us up to God.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
On this most blessè¤ Jubilee, Jubilee,
All glory be, O God, to Thee.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
O Holy Three, we Thee adore, Thee adore,
This day, henceforth, forevermore.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Good to 'see' you, Judy! What I want to know is where was your coat? Everyone else was bundled up but you! And just your red hat doesn't count!! ;)
I did get to the pool yesterday. Roads were in great condition. And there wasn't a lot of traffic. Wonder when everyone is going to return their things and get the latest sales?
Then I came back to Lapel to Dollar General and to the bank to cash a Christmas check from Ivalou. I didn't notice it but the clerk did....Ivalou didn't sign my check!! Hope she signed everyone elses. Then it was back home and I changed clothes.
Ivalou and I then went to the funeral visitation. Jan's Mom, Jane was 93 years young and looked younger than Jan! Such a beautiful lady and hardly a wrinkle in her face! Ivalou and I visited but we didn't stay very long. Then we went to the China Buffet for dinner. Ate too much but it was sooo good!
Then home to a warm house and TV!
Today I am doing some laundry. Kitty said she had me penciled in to go and do something today but I wrote her back saying that if she didn't need to go anywhere, I didn't need to either. So if we don't go anywhere, then I will start working on the old laptop for Ivalou. I have my recovery disc ready to go after I put a few things on a Flash Drive. Hope the recovery disc works and that I don't get that pop window saying something about Windows something or other isn't working. Plus it should put all the Applications/Drivers in for Toshiba....which I haven't had since PC Help reinstalled Windows a couple of years ago.
Tony may come this afternoon. I told him I would be home. So if I do go with Kitty somewhere, I need to call him!/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\

Etta Sue my coat is white.....I hung it on a tree out of sight! I was glad to get it back on!
I also enjoyed the various postings with pictures, etc. Y'all are lightyears ahead of me in this regard!
I drove almost 60 miles today taking folks to the doctor and or the pharmacy. Whew! Now it's time to rest.
Y'all have a good rest of the day with our Lord,
Ruth Ann
Just spent more time working on my sewing machine and it was humming again - this morning, three things were wrong that gremlins had been working on the machine last night. Finally, I hope this is final. Total of 5 hours in two days of fussing with that machine. So thankful. Now to get on with a real project.
Leftover roasted chicken was boiled for broth for another day while making a salad with raspberry, walnut and gorgonzola cheese vinaigrette dressing and reheating the sorta mexican casserole from last night. Freezing the veggie soup - as always there is too much for us.
JudyB: We grew up in houses with very small closets. Now they are much larger and filled. Of course, hardly anything gets thrown away and it is my goal to donate something in the closet whenever something new is added. I am not a shopper so "new" is not normal. But a grandson graduating from high school in June is putting the pressure on me to find a dress.
Hi everyone. It is still dark outside and 39 degrees. We had rain throughout the night but it seems to have stopped or is over this morning. I did get a new iPhone 5 yesterday and spent a good part of the day putting the applications I wanted on it and also organizing the icons for the applications into several different folders to make it easier to find related programs. I did watch the VT/Rutgers bowl game, which VT won at the very last minute after playing a really poor game. I follow Virginia Tech because it is the school my best friend graduated from and he is an avid fan. Hope to have a relatively quiet day today, although right now plan to attend a meeting this morning. I am hoping Pat will have a better day today as she was in a lot of pain yesterday.
Janet, sure hope you feel much better today and don't have the flu, which seems to hang on for a long time.
Judy, having your won sewing room should be very helpful to you. Pat has a combination sewing room and office. The house we had before moving here had a large bedroom and a walkin closet with a window that she used for a sewing room. The one she has now is much smaller and storage is a problem so things are scattered everywhere.
Etta Sue, your recovery discs should work well. I have relied on them a couple of times and it put everything back to where they were when I bought the computer.
Ruth Ann, it sounds like you need a taxi light on top of your car and a meter inside. :) Nice of you to help your friends as you do, but sure that is nothing new for you.
Carol, Pat would love to have a Singer featherweight as they are apparently wonderful machines.

WHAT A FRIEND (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/TheRose.mid)
(Click to hear music)
Tune: The Rose
Traditional Tune: Charles C. Converse, 1832-1918 (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/whatafriendwehave.mpga)
What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He?ll take and shield you; you will find a solace there.
Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear
May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.

We are about 1/2 done Johns office/my sewing room. I now don't know where all the rest of his stuff will go. Years of teaching driving and human resorces has amounted to the equialent of a sewers/quilters stash. Thing is there is the possibility he will be able to use it come retirement. so we neet to find a home for all of it.
I don't know if I told you that I am raising zebra finches. We have 2 fledglings out of the nest now for a total of 4 since spring. I have another pair getting ready to nest. I started with 2 added 3 more then bought a flight cage and added one more..6 adults and the 4 youngsters make 10. I wake to their song every morning. I have them in the bedroom as it is the only room I can ensure even temperature. With the wood furnace, it is often hot or cold, they wouldn't survive those constant changing temperatures. It is interesting they have come to know my voice, but try and take a picture? that is a huge challenge!
Well I am back to work. Have a great day everyone.
I'm back! Not quite 100%, but close! I am so thankful. I just lazed around all day yesterday, not leaving the house even one time. In the afternoon, I went back to bed and slept for well over two hours. I guess that was the right 'medicine' because I feel like myself again this morning! Thanks, Larry, for your good wishes.
Judy, the house I grew up in didn't have closets or other storage, either. What we four older girls used to hang our clothes in was a curtained off area about six feet long, with a single rod for hanging. Now ONE girl needs more space than that! Good luck with finding/making a home for John's "stuff." Not always easy. And I find that now that I have lots of good storage, I forget where I put stuff and have to hunt for it! I do lots of praying for the Lord to remind me where I have put things!
My youngest grandson Addison, 20 years old, needs prayer. He wants to join the Air Force, but when he took his physical, they found protein in his urine. He has done 24 hour tests (saving all urine for 24 hours) and the results are not good. He will be seeing a nephrologist on January 17. His mom is worried sick about him.
John's birthday is either today or tomorrow (senior moment) and Beth has asked me to make supper for them tonight. At least what she requested is easy to make! And she asked a family friend who makes beautiful cakes to make a cake for John, so I don't have to do that.
Carol, I have an old Singer machine, not as old as the featherweight, but the (I think this is right) Slant-O-Matic. It belonged to my sister who was killed, and I inherited it along with her kids. It sews beautifully, but I very seldom do any sewing anymore. Like you, I am not a shopper, but a lot of my clothes are getting downright shabby looking, so for Christmas, Darrel is going to take me shopping for clothes when we go to Amarillo in Jan. to see the heart doctor. I love it when he shops with me, as he knows instantly what looks good on me, and is willing to pay more for my clothes than I would even consider paying! ;) :)
We still have snow on the ground, and it has been very cold. But that is okay, after all it is "deep in December!" At least we haven't had a lot of wind with it.
Janice, I was thinking about the 'baby food cake' and wondering why you couldn't get the same moist results by pureeing fruit in a blender. Of course, the amounts would be right in the jars of baby food, I guess. Intriguing idea, anyway.
I need to get dressed. I've been up for 2 1/2 hours already. Will call Pat and see if she wants to do my hair today. Friday is the usual day, but I wasn't up to it yesterday.
Sorry this got so long---making up for yesterday,I guess. :-[
It's snowing. (sigh) We seem to alternate between a virtually snowless year and then a very snowy one. The Wednesday-Thursday storm left about 10 inches behind and now this is supposed to bring from 3 to 8 inches. At least my porch, steps and driveway got cleared and this time he even cleaned my car off. So now we start again. We won't be getting above freezing for at least another week and it looks like several nights will be dropping below zero. :(
I hear you Jeanne. We have the low temperatures not the snow todat though.
Hello everyone,
Our snow is almost all gone now. But still having cold temps, was 16 F when I got up this morning.
Interesting that y' all are talking about the Singer Featherweight...I had one of those and took it to college with me. Wish I still had it...they are perfect for piecing quilt blocks. I even checked on eBay awhile back to see what they were selling for. Way too much for me! I ought to be satisfied with what I have, but I love sewing machines.
I taught my Dtr & 2 GrDtrs how to sew and gave each a sewing machine when they were young. I learned to sew on my mother's old treadle machine. She was piecing a string quilt by cutting squares of paper from a Montgomery Ward catalog. Then she would sew scrap strips of fabric of fabric onto them and trim the edges off. That was my first sewing experience. Then I learned how to make my clothes. I was so proud of my first store bought pattern-- it was a McCalls and I paid 45 cents for it!
The New Year is almost here. May w all have a blessed 2013 .
Adios,
-- Janice

Another big snow! At around 8:30pm last evening, we had big flakes floating to the ground. Already my deck was covered. I got up at 3am and it looked like a Winter Wonderland out there! Even in the night light, I could see that every branch was covered. Snow was packed in bushes where you would think nothing could pack. Right now a gust of wind came and the snow is blowing off the trees!
While I was reading my morning devotions, I saw a payloader come down the road. It turned in Ivalou's drive. George, the father of the guy that clean our drives three days ago! He cleaned Ivalou's drive then came over here. In a half hour he had both drives done! I put on my coat and boots and shoveled my deck and the walkway. Now we can get out again if we have to get out!
Ivalou called me when I was shoveling. By the time I got my gloves off, my coat pulled up and the phone out of my pocket she hung up. I called her back and she didn't know I was outside. She wants to go to church again tomorrow if we don't get any more snow! God is good.
I just got another phone call from g-nephew, Nick! He said if I see a couple of 4-wheelers in the fields behind me that it is him and a friend! He always calls me if he does something like that or even just goes to the woods! No one else in the family does that but Nick does!
I have no where I need to go today so I am in for the duration...other than getting the mail when it comes!
It is a beautiful snow! It's 31°.xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Hi, friends,
Today's a no-traveling, non-taxi day for Ruth Ann.
So, not much to talk about but y'all have a good day.
Ruth Ann
Janet, I hadn't thought about using fresh fruit but it might work. However, fruit has a high percentage of water and it might affect the outcome of the cake. I would imagine the baby food has been cooked down somewhat and is a little thicker. To tell the truth, I think the reason the cake is so moist is the amount of veg. oil in it.
Etta Sue, what a beautiful sight to see snow stacked up on the branches. Earl and I were returning from Cloudcroft, NM one time and in one of the valleys we saw such beauty like that to almost take your breath away. There were orchards - so grand a sight, I never forgot it. Isn't God good to give us moments like that?!
G'night all. Rest well.
-- Janice
Hi everyone. I was able to sleep a little later this morning but just finished breakfast and am ready for church, which will be about 3 hours from now. I have no idea, at this point, whether Pat will be up to going this morning or not. We are losing our music ministry staff, except for the organist. The wonderful choir director has been their 14 years but the recent pay cuts and the fact she is spending around 7 hours a week just getting back and forth to the church as she has moved up north makes it time to make a change. She is also not pleased with the direction the minister wants to take the music program toward more contemporary music from the more traditional. The assistant music director's husband has dementia and is requiring more time than in the past and she is afraid to leave him alone anymore. So she will be leaving after todays service and the Music Director has agreed to stay on for one more month to help in a transition although she had resigned effective today. I am saddened to see both of them go but time marches on and I certainly understand their reasoning. Nothing else on the schedule for today other than some work here at my desk that never seems to get done and watching some football this afternoon.
Judy, storage is a problem here as well. Fortunately, when we got rid of the second car we can now use half of the garage for close-by storage and put out their things we wouldn't want in the shed, which isn't very tightly built. I don't believe you mentioned the zebra finches. That must be a lot of bird chirping with 10 birds.
Janet, glad you are almost back to normal health. I think rest always helps. Sorry to hear of the potential problems for your grandson Addison but good that they are being revealed at an early age. Hope John and Beth enjoyed John's BD celebration. It sounds like you do need to take Darrel shopping for clothes with you since he is willing to pay more than you would.
Jeanne, it sounds like a good time weather wise to hibernate.
Janice, my wife would love a featherweight Singer as well but has a wonderful Bernina machine that is designed for quilting that has all kinds of bells and whistles. Unfortunately, she hasn't been up to using it in the recent past. My mother and grandmother had treadle machines and my grandmother did most of the sewing for the family. Hope you have a good 2013 as well and it will soon be here.
Etta Sue, probably good that the snow is being blown off of the tree limbs so they won't get too heavy and break.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

I am all ready for church except snow drift hopping to get to the garage! Yes, I have a big drift across the drive. It looks to be about 2 feet deep!
And I called Ivalou and she isn't going to go to church today! I understand because she is afraid she might fall and mess up her surgery.
It looks like we are going to have a sunny day. The sun is coming up and the sky is clear. May have to get out my sunglasses with the glare off the snow! ---<---<-@---<---<-@---<---<-@---<---<-@---<---<-@---<---<-@

The Church In The Wildwood (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/churchwildwood.mid)
(Click for Music)
There's a church in the valley by the wildwood
No lovelier spot in the dale
No place is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale
(Oh, come, come, come, come)
Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale
How sweet on a clear Sabbath morning
To listen to the clear ringing bells
Its tones so sweetly are calling
Oh come to the church in the vale
(Oh, come, come, come, come)
Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale
There, close by the church in the valley
Lies one that I loved so well
She sleeps, sweetly sleeps, 'neath the willow
Disturb not her rest in the vale
(Oh, come, come, come, come)
Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale
There, close by the side of that loved one
'Neath the tree where the wild flowers bloom
When farewell hymns shall be chanted
I shall rest by her side in the tomb
(Oh, come, come, come, come)
Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

I worked until 5 last evening. We had 4 dogs 15 female cats and 17 males. I think they said that today we have 40 animals coming in so I may be there later than 5. The male cats go faster than the females. If I am there late we will be having Pizza for supper. My new work days are Sunday-Tuesday.
:coffee: Good afternoon please don't fall of your seats as it is daylight and I am actually sending this out to you all. I know that it is normally late or in the A.M. but well I manage once in a while. Well we had a good time with all of our kid's for boxing day as they go to all the others for dinners so then that is when they arrive here. But Noreen has been very sick with this flu bug and has hit the Niagara very hard and a lot of people have been kept in hospital which is not good. So far I have managed not to get it and pray that I do not.
Please pray that Noreen gets better very fast as she has her first meeting for the surgery for her knee on the 3rd at the hospital and if she is sick they may just cancel it and it takes so much longer to get an other app. She has said that this may be a sign that the Lord does not want her to have it yet so we will see what happens. :)
Well Noreen and wish you a very happy New Year and that you all stay healthy. God's richest blessings. Gordon and Noreen. :cp: :bananadance: :pine: :snowball:
Gordon: The flu that is going around in your area certainly takes a longer recovery than the usual flu. Prayers for recovery. - Gord, I fell off my seat!!!
Ruth Ann: That was a cute idea of calling your car a taxi - put some lights on top and away you go.
Larry: I have to be in the right frame of mind to go to the machine and this Featherweight is fun but being only a straight stitch means there are so many limitations. I did learn on a treadle machine which my brother gave away -
JudyB: Love that old song and do remember it being pounded out on the piano at home.
We had a great time this morning at a fairly new tiny Lutheran church just starting up in a shopping center. They have probably 25 at the most. The visiting pastor is starting a church for Indians in Phoenix and we sure want to visit her. She will be here next week and after that the regular pastor comes back.. On Wednesday, quilters meet at 2 PM and I am going to help make charity quilts - most going to a refuge for abused even kidnapped young women apparently in the area - they are in a secure place. We met everyone and so impressed - this is where I want to help and Don can actually hear because the place is so small
You will appreciate my concern about this - two of our boys are in the mountains and they are snowmobiling (remember one having emergency knee surgery only last year from accident?" I found out they had posted on Facebook - their racing antics on the machines. They are too old for me to scold or ground. One is even shown going up Chicken Hill - there is a reason for that name and the other is just plain speeding in a valley.
Grateful for this day.
Carol--prayers for those BIG BOYS of yours! They just will do that stuff, won't they? Pray they will stay safe and soon come to not crave the thrills so much.
Wish we were sharing the lovely snows! Our little bit is all but gone now. It was very cold and windy this morning at 3, when we went to the hospital. Darrel felt he was having a heart attack, so we went in and got him checked over. They admitted him and monitored his heart enzymes all day, then let him come back home this evening. His pain started last night about 8, he didn't tell me until 3 this morning! At midnight, he got up and took a nitro; then woke me at 3 and told me he thought he was having a heart attack. I gave him four aspirin; then in a few minutes he decided to go to the hospital. They gave him another nitro, plus a concoction of acid blocker, Lidocaine and something else, in case it was just acid reflux. So he was monitored all day. He seems to feel fine now, and we are so thankful. With his history, we didn't dare just ignore it!
Today was John's birthday, too, so this afternoon I came home and made dinner (supper) for him and Beth, also made him a cake. I rarely bake cakes, as we just don't eat them, but they enjoyed it. They were just finishing eating when Darrel called me to come get him.
And I am tired. Wonder why? I enjoyed all your posts, sorry to blather on about us so much, but wanted you to know what's happening! See you tomorrow.
:) Carol I do hope that your boys come home safe. I to know what it is like with boys so just trust the Lord to look after them. God bless.
Janet. Boy do you ever have a busy life I do hope and pray that you will try to relax and look after yourself. Keep on trusting the Lord and he will give you the strength that you need. :)
Well tomorrow is the last day of the year may every one that reads the posts have a Blessed New Year. Love to all in the Name of the Father and the Son and The Holy Spirit. God bless. Gordon and Noreen. :cp: :bananadance: :rocker: :pine:
Well, it's that time of week again and now it's the end of one year and the beginning of the next!
I do pray that all will have a wonderful 2013 and also that we get more and more friends of ours in here posting on this site.
I've started a new topic for the week HERE (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=12488.0)
See you there!
