JennyW: Hello Everyone! Just checking in to see if anyone wants to get this group going again! Hope all is well where ever you live! 2024-08-14, 08:21:59

Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Janet

I see that I didn't post yesterday!  That is unusual for me.  But I was really sick yesterday, which is also unusual, thank God.  My insides were really in turmoil, all day and most of the night.  Makes me once again be so very thankful for my usual excellent health!

I'm feeling sore, head achy and wrung out this morning, but at least am not running to the bathroom every few minutes!  I will be back later.........

Well we are back at it today.  We have decided to move John's desk and put my sewing "stuff" into the room he calls an office.  That will give me storage for my sewing and a place to actually work at it!! That way I can close the door when I am done for the day!

One thing I have come to the conclusion about.  The pioneers did not build in closets or storage places  to hand clothes or put linnens and towels away.  There is NO storage in this house!!!

I have posted a couple more shots of Duchaney in the winter at the end of this link. http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=11750.new#new

John is looking for help, be back later!

A Babe Is Born
(Click to hear music)

Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior,
which is Christ the Lord
Luke 2:11

Words: Possibly from a 14th Century Benedictine processional from the monastery of St. Georg, Hradlisch, near Olm'uer natus in Bethlehem.

Music: composer unknown

A Babe is born in Bethlehem, Bethlehem,
Therefore rejoice Jerusalem,
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Within a manger He doth lie, He doth lie,
Whose throne is set above the sky.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Stillness was all the manger round, manger round,
The creature its Creator found.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

The wise men came, led by the star, by the star,
Gold, myrrh, and incense brought from far.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

His mother is the virgin mild, virgin mild,
And He the Father?s only Child.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

The serpent?s wound He beareth not, beareth not,
Yet takes our blood, and shares our lot,
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Our human flesh He enters in, enters in,
But bears no single taint of sin.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

To fallen man Himself He bowed, self He bowed,
That He might lift us up to God.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

On this most blessè¤ Jubilee, Jubilee,
All glory be, O God, to Thee.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

O Holy Three, we Thee adore, Thee adore,
This day, henceforth, forevermore.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Good to 'see' you, Judy!  What I want to know is where was your coat?  Everyone else was bundled up but you!  And just your red hat doesn't count!!   ;)

I did get to the pool yesterday.  Roads were in great condition.  And there wasn't a lot of traffic.  Wonder when everyone is going to return their things and get the latest sales?

Then I came back to Lapel to Dollar General and to the bank to cash a Christmas check from Ivalou.  I didn't notice it but the clerk did....Ivalou didn't sign my check!!  Hope she signed everyone elses.  Then it was back home and I changed clothes.

Ivalou and I then went to the funeral visitation.  Jan's Mom, Jane was 93 years young and looked younger than Jan!  Such a beautiful lady and hardly a wrinkle in her face!  Ivalou and I visited but we didn't stay very long.  Then we went to the China Buffet for dinner.  Ate too much but it was sooo good!

Then home to a warm house and TV!

Today I am doing some laundry.  Kitty said she had me penciled in to go and do something today but I wrote her back saying that if she didn't need to go anywhere, I didn't need to either.  So if we don't go anywhere, then I will start working on the old laptop for Ivalou.  I have my recovery disc ready to go after I put a few things on a Flash Drive.  Hope the recovery disc works and that I don't get that pop window saying something about Windows something or other isn't working.  Plus it should put all the Applications/Drivers in for Toshiba....which I haven't had since PC Help reinstalled Windows a couple of years ago.

Tony may come this afternoon.  I told him I would be home.  So if I do go with Kitty somewhere, I need to call him!

Etta Sue my coat is white.....I hung it on a tree out of sight!  I was glad to get it back on!

I also enjoyed the various postings with pictures, etc. Y'all are lightyears ahead of me in this regard!

I drove almost 60 miles today taking folks to the doctor and or the pharmacy. Whew! Now it's time to rest.

Y'all have a good rest of the day with our Lord,

Carol

Just spent more time working on my sewing machine and it was humming again - this morning, three things were wrong that gremlins had been working on the machine last night.  Finally, I hope this is final.  Total of 5 hours in two days of fussing with that machine.  So thankful.  Now to get on with a real project.

Leftover roasted chicken was boiled for broth for another day  while making a salad with raspberry, walnut and gorgonzola cheese vinaigrette dressing and reheating the sorta mexican casserole from last night.  Freezing the veggie soup - as always there is too much for us.

JudyB:  We grew up in houses with very small closets.  Now they are much larger and filled.   Of course, hardly anything gets thrown away and it is my goal to donate something in the closet whenever something new is added.  I am not a shopper so "new" is not normal.  But a grandson graduating from high school in June is putting the pressure on me to find a dress.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  It is still dark outside and 39 degrees.  We had rain throughout the night but it seems to have stopped or is over this morning.  I did get a new iPhone 5 yesterday and spent a good part of the day putting the applications I wanted on it and also organizing the icons for the applications into several different folders to make it easier to find related programs.  I did watch the VT/Rutgers bowl game, which VT won at the very last minute after playing a really poor game.  I follow Virginia Tech because it is the school my best friend graduated from and he is an avid fan.  Hope to have a relatively quiet day today, although right now plan to attend a meeting this morning.  I am hoping Pat will have a better day today as she was in a lot of pain yesterday.

Janet, sure hope you feel much better today and don't have the flu, which seems to hang on for a long time.

Judy, having your won sewing room should be very helpful to you.  Pat has a combination sewing room and office.  The house we had before moving here had a large bedroom and a walkin closet with a window that she used for a sewing room.  The one she has now is much smaller and storage is a problem so things are scattered everywhere.

Etta Sue, your recovery discs should work well.  I have relied on them a couple of times and it put everything back to where they were when I bought the computer.

Ruth Ann, it sounds like you need a taxi light on top of your car and a meter inside.  :)  Nice of you to help your friends as you do, but sure that is nothing new for you.

Carol, Pat would love to have a Singer featherweight as they are apparently wonderful machines.

WHAT A FRIEND
(Click to hear music)
Tune: The Rose

Traditional Tune: Charles C. Converse, 1832-1918

What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He?ll take and shield you; you will find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear
May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.

We are about 1/2 done Johns office/my sewing room.  I now don't know where all the rest of his stuff will go.  Years of teaching driving and human resorces has amounted to the equialent of a sewers/quilters stash.  Thing is there is the possibility he will be able to use it come retirement. so we neet to find a home for all of it.

I don't know if I told you that I am raising zebra finches.  We have 2 fledglings out of the nest now for a total of 4 since spring.  I have another pair getting ready to nest. I started with 2 added 3 more then bought a flight cage and added one more..6 adults and the 4 youngsters make 10.  I wake to their song every morning.  I  have them in the bedroom as it is the only room I can ensure even temperature.  With the wood furnace, it is often hot or cold, they wouldn't survive those constant changing temperatures.  It is interesting they have come to know my voice, but try and take a picture? that is a huge challenge!

Well I am back to work.  Have a great day everyone.

Janet

I'm back!  Not quite 100%, but close!  I am so thankful.  I just lazed around all day yesterday, not leaving the house even one time.  In the afternoon, I went back to bed and slept for well over two hours.  I guess that was the right 'medicine' because I feel like myself again this morning!  Thanks, Larry, for your good wishes.

Judy, the house I grew up in didn't have closets or other storage, either.  What we four older girls used to hang our clothes in was a curtained off area about six feet long, with a single rod for hanging.  Now ONE girl needs more space than that!  Good luck with finding/making a home for John's "stuff."  Not always easy.  And I find that now that I have lots of good storage, I forget where I put stuff and have to hunt for it!  I do lots of praying for the Lord to remind me where I have put things!

My youngest grandson Addison, 20 years old, needs prayer.  He wants to join the Air Force, but when he took his physical, they found protein in his urine.  He has done 24 hour tests (saving all urine for 24 hours) and the results are not good.  He will be seeing a nephrologist on January 17.  His mom is worried sick about him.

John's birthday is either today or tomorrow (senior moment) and Beth has asked me to make supper for them tonight.  At least what she requested is easy to make!  And she asked a family friend who makes beautiful cakes to make a cake for John, so I don't have to do that.

Carol, I have an old Singer machine, not as old as the featherweight, but the (I think this is right) Slant-O-Matic.  It belonged to my sister who was killed, and I inherited it along with her kids.  It sews beautifully, but I very seldom do any sewing anymore.  Like you, I am not a shopper, but a lot of my clothes are getting downright shabby looking, so for Christmas, Darrel is going to take me shopping for clothes when we go to Amarillo in Jan. to see the heart doctor.  I love it when he shops with me, as he knows instantly what looks good on me, and is willing to pay more for my clothes than I would even consider paying!  ;)  :)

We still have snow on the ground, and it has been very cold.  But that is okay, after all it is "deep in December!"  At least we haven't had a lot of wind with it.

Janice, I was thinking about the 'baby food cake' and wondering why you couldn't get the same moist results by pureeing fruit in a blender.  Of course, the amounts would be right in the jars of baby food, I guess.  Intriguing idea, anyway.

I need to get dressed.  I've been up for 2 1/2 hours already.  Will call Pat and see if she wants to do my hair today.  Friday is the usual day, but I wasn't up to it yesterday.

Sorry this got so long---making up for yesterday,I guess.  :-[

It's snowing. (sigh)  We seem to alternate between a virtually snowless year and then a very snowy one.  The Wednesday-Thursday storm left about 10 inches behind and now this is supposed to bring from 3 to 8 inches.  At least my porch, steps and driveway got cleared and this time he even cleaned my car off.  So now we start again.  We won't be getting above freezing for at least another week and it looks like several nights will be dropping below zero.   :(

I hear you Jeanne. We have the low temperatures not the snow todat though.

Janice

Hello everyone,
Our snow is almost all gone now. But still having cold temps, was 16 F when I got up this morning.

Interesting that y' all are talking about the Singer Featherweight...I had one of those and took it to college with me.  Wish I still had it...they are perfect for piecing quilt blocks.  I even checked on eBay awhile back to see what they were selling for.  Way too much for me!  I ought to be satisfied with what I have, but I love sewing machines.

I taught my Dtr & 2 GrDtrs how to sew and gave each a sewing machine when they were young.  I learned to sew on my mother's old treadle machine.  She was piecing a string quilt by cutting squares of paper from a Montgomery Ward catalog.  Then she would sew scrap strips of fabric of fabric onto them and trim the edges off.  That was my first sewing experience.  Then I learned how to make my clothes.  I was so proud of my first store bought pattern-- it was a McCalls and I paid 45 cents for it!

The New Year is almost here.  May w all have a blessed 2013 .
Adios,
-- Janice

Another big snow!  At around 8:30pm last evening, we had big flakes floating to the ground.  Already my deck was covered.  I got up at 3am and it looked like a Winter Wonderland out there!  Even in the night light, I could see that every branch was covered.  Snow was packed in bushes where you would think nothing could pack.  Right now a gust of wind came and the snow is blowing off the trees!

While I was reading my morning devotions, I saw a payloader come down the road.  It turned in Ivalou's drive.  George, the father of the guy that clean our drives three days ago!  He cleaned Ivalou's drive then came over here.  In a half hour he had both drives done!  I put on my coat and boots and shoveled my deck and the walkway.  Now we can get out again if we have to get out!

Ivalou called me when I was shoveling.  By the time I got my gloves off, my coat pulled up and the phone out of my pocket she hung up.  I called her back and she didn't know I was outside.  She wants to go to church again tomorrow if we don't get any more snow!  God is good.

I just got another phone call from g-nephew, Nick!  He said if I see a couple of 4-wheelers in the fields behind me that it is him and a friend!  He always calls me if he does something like that or even just goes to the woods!  No one else in the family does that but Nick does!

I have no where I need to go today so I am in for the duration...other than getting the mail when it comes!

It is a beautiful snow!  It's 31°.

Hi, friends,

Today's a no-traveling, non-taxi day for Ruth Ann.

So, not much to talk about but y'all have a good day.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Janet, I hadn't thought about using fresh fruit but it might work.  However, fruit has a high percentage of water and it might affect the outcome of the cake.  I would imagine the baby food has been cooked down somewhat and is a little thicker.  To tell the truth, I think the reason the cake is so moist is the amount of veg. oil in it.

Etta Sue, what a beautiful sight to see snow stacked up on the branches.  Earl and I were returning from Cloudcroft, NM one time and in one of the valleys we saw such beauty like that to almost take your breath away.  There were orchards - so grand a sight, I never forgot it.  Isn't God good to give us moments like that?!

G'night all.  Rest well.

This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.   Ps 118:24

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  I was able to sleep a little later this morning but just finished breakfast and am ready for church, which will be about 3 hours from now.  I have no idea, at this point, whether Pat will be up to going this morning or not.  We are losing our music ministry staff, except for the organist.  The wonderful choir director has been their 14 years but the recent pay cuts and the fact she is spending around 7 hours a week just getting back and forth to the church as she has moved up north makes it time to make a change.  She is also not pleased with the direction the minister wants to take the music program toward more contemporary music from the more traditional.  The assistant music director's husband has dementia and is requiring more time than in the past and she is afraid to leave him alone anymore.  So she will be leaving after todays service and the Music Director has agreed to stay on for one more month to help in a transition although she had resigned effective today.  I am saddened to see both of them go but time marches on and I certainly understand their reasoning.  Nothing else on the schedule for today other than some work here at my desk that never seems to get done and watching some football this afternoon.

Judy, storage is a problem here as well.  Fortunately, when we got rid of the second car we can now use half of the garage for close-by storage and put out their things we wouldn't want in the shed, which isn't very tightly built.  I don't believe you mentioned the zebra finches. That must be a lot of bird chirping with 10 birds.

Janet, glad you are almost back to normal health.  I think rest always helps.  Sorry to hear of the potential problems for your grandson Addison but good that they are being revealed at an early age.  Hope John and Beth enjoyed John's BD celebration.  It sounds like you do need to take Darrel shopping for clothes with you since he is willing to pay more than you would.

Jeanne, it sounds like a good time weather wise to hibernate.

Janice, my wife would love a featherweight Singer as well but has a wonderful Bernina machine that is designed for quilting that has all kinds of bells and whistles.  Unfortunately, she hasn't been up to using it in the recent past.  My mother and grandmother had treadle machines and my grandmother did most of the sewing for the family.  Hope you have a good 2013 as well and it will soon be here.

Etta Sue, probably good that the snow is being blown off of the tree limbs so they won't get too heavy and break.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Etta Sue

I am all ready for church except snow drift hopping to get to the garage!  Yes, I have a big drift across the drive.  It looks to be about 2 feet deep!

And I called Ivalou and she isn't going to go to church today!  I understand because she is afraid she might fall and mess up her surgery.

It looks like we are going to have a sunny day.  The sun is coming up and the sky is clear.  May have to get out my sunglasses with the glare off the snow!

The Church In The Wildwood
(Click for Music)

There's a church in the valley by the wildwood
No lovelier spot in the dale
No place is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

(Oh, come, come, come, come)

Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

How sweet on a clear Sabbath morning
To listen to the clear ringing bells
Its tones so sweetly are calling
Oh come to the church in the vale
(Oh, come, come, come, come)

Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

There, close by the church in the valley
Lies one that I loved so well
She sleeps, sweetly sleeps, 'neath the willow
Disturb not her rest in the vale
(Oh, come, come, come, come)

Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

There, close by the side of that loved one
'Neath the tree where the wild flowers bloom
When farewell hymns shall be chanted
I shall rest by her side in the tomb

(Oh, come, come, come, come)

Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

I worked until 5 last evening. We had 4 dogs 15 female cats and 17 males. I think they said that today we have 40 animals coming in so I may be there later than 5. The male cats go faster than the females. If I am there late we will be having Pizza for supper. My new work days are Sunday-Tuesday.

:coffee:  Good afternoon please don't fall of your seats as it is daylight and I am actually sending this out to you all.  I know that it is normally late or in the A.M. but well I manage once in a while.  Well we had a good time with all of our kid's for boxing day as they go to all the others for dinners so then that is when they arrive here.  But Noreen has been very sick with this flu bug and has hit the Niagara very hard and a lot of people have been kept in hospital which is not good.  So far I have managed not to get it and pray that I do not.
Please pray that Noreen gets better very fast as she has her first meeting for the surgery for her knee on the 3rd at the hospital and if she is sick they may just cancel it and it takes so much longer to get an other app.   She has said that this may be a sign that the Lord does not want her to have it yet so we will see what happens. :)

Well Noreen and wish you a very happy New Year and that you all stay healthy.  God's richest blessings.  Gordon and Noreen. :cp: :bananadance: :pine: :snowball:

Gordon:  The flu that is going around in your area certainly takes a longer recovery than the usual flu.  Prayers for recovery.  - Gord, I fell off my seat!!!

Ruth Ann:  That was a cute idea of calling your car a taxi - put some lights on top and away you go.

Larry:  I have to be in the right frame of mind to go to the machine and this Featherweight is fun but being only a straight stitch means there are so many limitations.  I did learn on a treadle machine which my brother gave away -

JudyB:  Love that old song and do remember it being pounded out on the piano at home.

We had a great time this morning at a fairly new tiny Lutheran church just starting up in a shopping center.  They have probably 25 at the most.  The visiting pastor is starting a church for Indians in Phoenix and we sure want to visit her.  She will be here next week and after that the regular pastor comes back..  On Wednesday, quilters meet at 2 PM and I am going to help make charity quilts - most going to a refuge for abused even kidnapped young women apparently in the area - they are in a secure place.  We met everyone and so impressed - this is where I want to help and Don can actually hear because the place is so small

You will appreciate my concern about this - two of our boys are in the mountains and they are snowmobiling (remember one having emergency knee surgery only last year from accident?"  I found out they had posted on Facebook - their racing antics on the machines.  They are too old for me to scold or ground.  One is even shown going up Chicken Hill - there is a reason for that name and the other is just plain speeding in a valley.

Grateful for this day.

Janet

Carol--prayers for those BIG BOYS of yours!  They just will do that stuff, won't they?  Pray they will stay safe and soon come to not crave the thrills so much.

Wish we were sharing the lovely snows!  Our little bit is all but gone now.  It was very cold and windy this morning at 3, when we went to the hospital.  Darrel felt he was having a heart attack, so we went in and got him checked over.  They admitted him and monitored his heart enzymes all day, then let him come back home this evening.  His pain started last night about 8, he didn't tell me until 3 this morning!  At midnight, he got up and took a nitro; then woke me at 3 and told me he thought he was having a heart attack.  I gave him four aspirin; then in a few minutes he decided to go to the hospital.  They gave him another nitro, plus a concoction of acid blocker, Lidocaine and something else, in case it was just acid reflux.  So he was monitored all day.  He seems to feel fine now, and we are so thankful.  With his history, we didn't dare just ignore it!

Today was John's birthday, too, so this afternoon I came home and made dinner (supper) for him and Beth, also made him a cake.  I rarely bake cakes, as we just don't eat them, but they enjoyed it.  They were just finishing eating when Darrel called me to come get him.

And I am tired.  Wonder why? I enjoyed all your posts, sorry to blather on about us so much, but wanted you to know what's happening!  See you tomorrow.

Janet.  Boy do you ever have a busy life I do hope and pray that you will try to relax and look after yourself.  Keep on trusting the Lord and he will give you the strength that you need. :)
