THE QUEST FOR THE ETERNAL
Our Daily Walk ... F.B. Meyer

"O God, Thou art my God; early will I seek Thee: my soul thirsteth for Thee; my flesh longeth for Thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is."-- Psa_63:1.

THIS PSALM has a special fascination for those who can no longer gather with the assemblies of God's people. David was in flight from Absalom, wandering in the wilderness. The land around is waterless and weary, and his enemies are on his track. But all this seems secondary to his longing for God. Weary and thirsty though he is, his most agonizing desire is for God, the living God, as he had seen and known Him in the tent, which he had reared on Zion for His worship. The barren wilderness, seemed to reflect the craving of his soul for God.

In many hearts and lives his mood is reflected to-day. Our soul thirsts and pines for the vision of the power and glory of God, for the communion of saints. Perhaps David lays greater emphasis on the Sanctuary than we do on our places of worship. We must remember that the Glory of the Shekinah shone between the Cherubim in that hallowed Shrine.

In Psa_63:5-7, the longing soul seems satisfied. As we long for God, we find Him. As we seek, we possess (Isa_41:17-18). As we remember Him, we break into song. The fact is that our yearnings after God are the response of our hearts to the beat of His heart and to the knock of His hand. Prayer is the response of our nature to the circulation of His lifeblood within us. When we seek His face, it is in answer to His own summons. "When Thou saidst, Seek ye My face; my heart said unto Thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek." As one has stated it: "Our desires and aspirations are responses to the outflowings of the Holy Spirit in silent or expressed communion."

The climax of the Psalm is reached in Psa_63:8. Notice the three-fold steps: my soul thirsts; my soul is satisfied; my soul followeth hard after Thee. Remember Him upon thy bed! Meditate on Him through the night-watches! Hide thyself under the shadow of His wings! Keep step with His purposes! Follow close behind Him! Whosoever follows hard on God's track, trusting in Him, rejoicing in His companionship, reaching out toward Him, will feel his own outstretched hand enclosed in a strong and tender grasp, steadying against weariness and failure, and making His own footsteps a way for our feet.

PRAYER
Bestow upon me also, O Lord my God, understanding to know Thee, diligence to seek Thee, wisdom to find Thee, and a faithfulness that may finally embrace Thee. AMEN.

As the Deer Panteth for the Water
(Click to hear music)

Written by Martin Nystrom

Psalm 42:1
"As the hart panteth after the water brooks,
so panteth my soul after thee, O God."

As the deer panteth for the water,
So my soul longs after you.
You alone are my hearts desire,
And I long to worship You.

Chorus
You alone are my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my hearts desire,
and I long to worship You.

I want you more than gold or silver,
Only You can satisfy.
You alone are the real joy giver
And the apple of my eye.

Chorus
You alone are my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my hearts desire,
and I long to worship You.

You're my friend and You're my brother,
Even though you are a King.
I love You more than any other
So much more than anything.

Chorus
You alone are my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my hearts desire,
and I long to worship You.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Hi everyone on a bright sunny day that is suppose to get to 60 degrees this afternoon.  Today will be a full day but enjoyable one  with church this morning, lunch with friends and tonight is the annual Choir Christmas Cantata.  Yesterday we made very good progress on the first phase of the move, i.e. sorting and discarding.  We got the garage sorted for the things we won't be taking with us and pretty much did the same with the shed.  Those were two big items on the list that I was dreading although our Nigerian grandson did the majority of the work.  As I took him home we stopped at the Goowill donation center, which is right on the way, and donated a truck full of things that still have value but are of no longer use to us.

Judy and Jane, I did let the young man do most of the work but I still managed to exhaust myself.  You know making decision on what to discard after many years is hard work.  :  However, I was pleased with the progress we made.

Jane, thanks for preparing and sharing the New Thoughts for the Week.

I have two things I want to share with everyone today and both are related to the great sacrifice our military play in protecting our country so we can enjoy a peaceful Christmas and go about our daily lives through the rest of the year.  They were worth my time to watch and read.

Be careful of that Larry.

Jane that is John's favourite song, As the Deer, has a lot of special meaning to him.

Wonderful day yesterday, family here, talking, laughing and celebrating.

I decided yesterday to kennel the dogs as there were 2 extra dogs as well a 4 young children.  The youngest in the lot puller a child's chair over to the kennel of our Zeke.  She had her legs and arms through the bars petting "MY PUP PUP"  just before she went home she was pulling at the door trying to get it open.  We opened it so he could come out for a while with her, instead she proceeded to crawl in, Melaura pulled her out and she went into a temper tantrum Saying, "NO MY PUP PUP! MY PUP PUP!"  so we carefully let her go.  She pulled the door shut and there was silence for a moment, then "HI PUP PUP PUP!"  HE is always so gentle with her.  Frankly I dare any stranger to try anything with her when he is around.  There is a big bond there!  Pictures were taken with John's wide angle lens, and I don't have the program that I know to resize them.  If you are on my Facebook look there for pictures.

Jane, thank you for the new devotional for this week and for the hymn that is so appropriate with it.

Larry, even though must of the physical part of the sorting was done by your "grandson", the emotional strain must still be difficult and exhausting.  Thank you for those links - so very sobering and touching.

Judy, there seems to be a special bond between a dog and a baby.

Yesterday was another exhausting day, as I did way more than my strength and energy dictated.  I am still recovering from the jet lag.  But I was able to sleep until 8 this morning!  :)  Just had time to shower and dress and get to church for the early service.  I wore one of my Burmese Logyi outfits and got a lot of compliments.   ;)  Pastor preached the very message God has been communicating to me in my time with Him each morning, so I took the time to tell him so after the service.  Pastors so richly deserve our encouragement and our prayers--and appreciation!

I want to get a few things done and have been on here far too long already.  I watched Dave Ramsey read the story of the winter walk (thanks, Judy!)  What a great little book!  I will return later and look at Larry's links.

Larry, I am so glad you won't be moving away from us, as you will be taking your computers with you, and will still be part of our daily lives.  So great your Nigerian grandson is helping you.  We were privileged to meet our Thai granddaughter again and spend some time with her, but sad we didn't make contact with our Thai grandson.  I do love young people!  They are a blessing, and glad he is such a blessing to you and Pat.

I need to search for John's email with his itinerary, as the one I found says he is arriving on Sat. Dec 20th but Beth says no, he is arriving on Friday the 19th!

I shall return!

Thanks Judy, Jeanne, and Larry.  I love that song, as well, and it immediately sprang to mind when I read the devotional. How could it not?  :)

Judy I did see those pictures on facebook ... made me think of my great granddaughter, Karmen.

Karmen was here on Thanksgiving ... first time she's seen where I live (when I'm not at their/my place in California).  Becky and she went on to Oregon City on Friday to visit with Becky's dad's side of the family.  As they were getting in the car to leave she called out "Bye Great Grandma, and bye Regular Grandma"   :D  She had already told me, in all seriousness "You are the BEST grandma I ever had"  Gotta love the kid after that.

We do love and adore our grandchildren, don't we?

Larry:  Thanks for the sites for the military - also Dave Ramsey.  We and our family support the Semper Fi fund which uses their donations thoughtfully towards wounded military aiding in their recovery.

Here, there is just a bit of snow on the ground.  We need to send in an extra check to have the driveway shoveled.  It irks me that they don't clean it as well as I can  ::)  :coffee:

Quitting my "secular" book club was so easy.  Just an email telling the truth that too many meetings will be missed because we are away... did not go into the doctor appointments but it is a load off my mind.  A few ruined it because they came in with their political slant so I am out of there.

Janet:  You must have been the most colorful one in church this week - show us a picture.  Most likely cotton fabric?  Very nice that John is coming for a visit.

Marilyn

Good morning everyone, We had a wonderful potluck at the church last evening with it all decorated in a Christmas theme. The dinner was Thanksgiving and Christmas combined.

I am no longer working at the Clinic, I quite last Wednesday along with the other volunteer two board members and the receptionist. We had all had enough of the verbal  abuse and drama antics of the Certified Vet tech, her assistant and the Doc. It is really too bad that they have ruined a wonderful non profit for the animals of this and other areas. We had  animals brought up from Crescent City Ca. for surgeries too.  I will really miss going there to take care of all the animals, but I am much better off emotionally not having to deal with  those people. I really loved that job.

Marilyn, I didn't realize there had been contention and attitudes to deal with in the animal clinic.  It's too bad you had to quit - I know you really enjoyed working with and helping the animals.  :(

Hi everyone on a crisp but sunny Monday.  Busy morning dealing with more paperwork on getting the mortgage for our new home and getting it mailed back to the Credit Union.  I also spoke with an insurance agency as have to get new policies when I move. I will rest a bit this afternoon and then work on another project.  This evening I have a meeting to attend.

Judy, sweet story and pictures involving the child and the dog.  She obviously knew what she wanted to do.

Janet, I was thinking it must be about time for your return and there your post popped up. I bet Beth in counting the hours.

Jane, now Karmen knows how to win a Great Grandmother's heart.  These little ones are so special.

Carol, in groups it is usually a good thing to avoid discussion of politics or religion as they cause such conflict among people.

Marilyn, so sad you had to quit the volunteer work at the Clinic. No one should be abused on the job whether paid staff and particularly volunteers.  I know you will miss being with the animals.

Janet

I forgot to mention that while in my fog of fatigue and jet lag, I was doing laundry, and I washed Darrel's passport!  :o  Bad!  It is still legible, but I thought I should call and ask it if would be a problem, as we have another trip scheduled leaving January 19.  The answer was YES.  They say if a passport has damage of any kind, even wear and tear on the cover, they will not let you board a plane!!  So I spent time this morning finding out the quickest way to get a replacement.  His was due to be renewed in a bit less than a year, so he isn't losing much time on it.  They said he needs a signed statement stating how the damage occurred.  I told him he could write:  My wife was laundering money and my passport somehow got in with the money!     I'll bet he makes sure to empty his pants pockets next time we get home from a trip!  :-[

Carol, I was pretty colorful, and I did have Darrel snap a photo of me after we got home.  Will attempt to post it one day soon.  I am wondering if I will catch up from this trip before we leave again!?!  I prefer not to have them scheduled so closely.  We will probably not make another big trip for some time now.  So nice that Don has the skill to fix things and the heart to help others.  What a guy!  And I know you have the gift of hospitality, so you are a wonderful couple!

Larry, I did watch both links, and appreciate them so much.  I have great love and respect for our military.  And I have a grandson, Addison, now serving with the Air Force at Ramstein AFB in Germany.  God bless our folks in uniform!

]Marilyn, you never mentioned the problems at your volunteer job.  I'm sorry about that, as I know you loved working with the animals.  But I'm sure there are other places you can serve, if you want to look for another job.  Volunteers are always needed, and usually appreciated.  Too bad that wasn't the case at that clinic!

Judy, I couldn't see your pictures, it told me the content was no longer available.  I think someone attempted to hack into my FB account (yes, AGAIN) while we were gone.

I have some things I really want to do this afternoon, so I need to get to it before I get too sleepy!

Jane, thank you for that good devotional. I didn't realize it had been several days since I was last here. Where DOES the time go???

The cleaning lady came today, and did such a lovely job. She's a real nice young lady whom I appreciate very much.

I think I'll take a bit of an afternoon rest, so I can be ready to continue doing what I've done all day ... nothing.  ^-^

May our Lord bless each of you as He knows your needs.

Love to all,

HI everyone on a dark and rainy morning here in Georgia.  However, it is 50 degrees here and it is to clear off by afternoon.  We had an agent from Two Men and a Truck, which is now the largest moving company in the USA (according to the agent) come and take the information needed to provide an estimate.  I am still trying to get another company to call me after two contacts.  If I can't reach them today I am marking them off the list.  I was so tired by the late afternoon that I decided not to attend my meeting last evening but got a good nights sleep.  I do plan on attending an eleven am meeting today.  The rest of the day I will continue working on getting things ready to move.

Janet, I hope Darrel can get a new passport in time for your upcoming trip.

Ruth Ann, glad you have a nice young cleaning lady.  We wish we could take our two ladies that come to clean with us when we move.  That will be one of the early things Pat will need to do if find someone to clean for us.  Our cleaning ladies will be here on the 22nd and then Pat thinks she may not have them again until we vacate the house as things are going to be in a mess as we begin to pack.

Marilyn

Janet my work with the animals was appreciated, except by the current Vet Tech, She was the problem for all of us. From what I can gather from some statements on Facebook there are some major changes forthcoming at the clinic with all new personnel soon.

Shirley & Marcy

A mother was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn't want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet knowthat he was safe.  So she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probablywouldn't notice her. She said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.

The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor girl he knew. She did this for the whole week.

As the two kids walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy 's little friend noticed the same lady was following them as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally she said to Timmy, 'Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her?'

Timmy nonchalantly replied, 'Yeah, I know who she is.'

The little girl said, 'Well, who is she?'

'That's just Shirley Goodnest, 'Timmy replied, 'and her daughter Marcy.'

'Shirley Goodnest? Who is she and why is she following us?

'Well,' Timmy explained, 'every night my Mum makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, 'cuz she worries about me so much. And in the Psalm, it says, ' Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life', so I guess I'll just have to get used to it!'

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

May Shirley Goodnestand Marcy be with you today and always

I love that little story, Pat!  I also love having Shirley and Marcy following me all the days of my life!  :)

I just returned from Hugoton, where I got to see and hear great granddaughter Lexi playing the piano in her very first recital!  She played Jingle Bells, without a single mistake.  She just started taking piano and seems to be loving it, so far anyway.  She is seven years old.

My friend Paula's husband Roy called just as I got home to tell me that they are AGAIN in the Wichita hospital.  She has had recurring (maybe ongoing!) infections at the site of the tube in her abdomen they use for her home dialysis treatments.  The doctor said it has to come out!  So they are putting in a port under her collar bone for hemo dialysis.  She is so thin, weak and frail; I pray she makes it through this.  Your prayers are desired....and much appreciated, as well.

John arrives Friday!!  That will make Beth so happy!  I love it when she is happy and smiling.  She is never down or crabby, but John is such a bright light in her life.  We love and appreciate him so much---what a jewel he is!

My cleaning lady is here.  It's been a whole different thing since we switched!  This one is so quick and efficient--and pleasant, as well.

Larry, please try not to overdo as you prepare for your move.  You are important to so many of us!

Passport problems - I remember Don having to fly to Chicago to pick up a passport as fast as possible - he was working to 3-M corporation and headed overseas in a rush job.  Oh, what a mess but he did make it.  I dearly hope you can get this taken care of very soon.  And, to think people walk over our borders day in and day out - but we have to have legitimate papers to prove who we are..... something is wrong.  As for hospitable people, we are feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the friends and relatives who want to visit our little place in Arizona (where we have more painting etc.).  Well, it always works out but now I am going to be tough and go to my exercise and the genealogy classes even if visitors arrive.  Sewing will be out but it is always so hard to keep to the exercise routine when people visit.  My own fault.  They certainly wouldn't care.

The final batches of Hot Fudge Sauce are made and in the refrigerator for distribution.  I did not make peanut brittle this year with so many days filled with appointments.  We shall see what happens and if we can leave as planned.

Larry:  It sounds like you will be in the middle of packing, etc. at Christmas.  Do hope the new home will be ready for you to move in easily.  We see those "Two men..." trucks as well.

Just a little snow in the ravine now and it was in the 20's most of the morning so people walking had head gear.  You would be shocked at how many children are driven to school - ours walked just over a mile - across a frozen lake at times - to a grade school.  The bus was too hot.  They had to bus 7 miles to jr. and high school.  I walked uphill on many stairs to grade school and walked, bus and trolley for high school - rain never stopped anyone.  Don walked in Duluth, Minnesota to school - need I say more?  It is killer cold there and no pampering from the parents.

Pat:  Love the Marcy and comfort -

Janet:  Praying for Paula and her husband, Roy.

Hi everyone.  It is a chilly 37 degrees this morning and only to get to 54 this afternoon.  Yesterday was a beautiful and relatively warm day.  I got quite a few things accomplished yesterday.  Only two major things on the agenda for today after coffee.  We plan on attending Bible Study (we have missed the last two weeks) and then having coffee with the group at Dunkin' Donut.  Then around 3 pm the third moving company is coming to work up the estimate.  After we receive that estimate we will make a decision on which one to use and  actually begin some packing once we get some cartons and paper.

Marilyn, maybe you will be able to volunteer at the clinic again once new staff is in place.

Pat, I loved the Shirley & Marcy story.  The mind and understanding of a child is precious.

Janet, How can Lexi be seven as it seems she was just born not more than a couple of years ago.  First recitals are very scary if you have to participate in them.  I still remember playing in the recitals for the seven years I took piano lessons.  I gave serious consideration to trying sell my piano but have changed my mind and am going to move it and put it in my new office.  Hopefully I will start playing it again.  I believe that God uses humans as his surrogate Angels and John sure fits that category in my mind.  I feel the same about some of our friends this year.

Carol, it sounds like you two are just too hospitable and have many loving relatives and friends.  Our new home is finished except for installing the Heat Pump and a few fixtures.  We will be going over to do a walk through and marking anything we see that needs to be fixed such as doors or drawers not opening and closing correctly or paint touch ups, etc.  We also had to walk to our country grade school but were bused to the high school.

"Just checking in today"

A minister passing through his church in the middle of the day, decided to pause by the altar and see who had come to pray.

Just then the back door opened, a man came down the aisle.
The minister frowned as he saw the man hadn't shaved in a while.
His shirt was kinda shabby and his coat was worn and frayed.
The man knelt, he bowed his head, then rose and walked away.
In the days that followed, each noon time came this chap,
Each time he knelt just for a moment, a lunch pail in his lap.
Well, the minister's suspicions grew, with robbery a main fear,
He decided to stop the man and ask him,
"What are you doing here?"

The old man said, he worked down the road. Lunch was half an hour.
Lunchtime was his prayer time, for finding strength and power.
"I stay only moments, see, because the factory is so far away;
As I kneel here talking to the Lord, this is kinda what I say:

"I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, LORD, HOW HAPPY I'VE BEEN, SINCE WE FOUND EACH OTHER'S FRIENDSHIP AND YOU TOOK AWAY MY SIN.
DON'T KNOW MUCH OF HOW TO PRAY, BUT I THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY. SO, JESUS, THIS IS JIM CHECKING IN TODAY."

The minister feeling foolish, told Jim, that was fine.
He told the man he was welcome to come and pray just anytime.
Time to go, Jim smiled, said "Thanks." He hurried to the door.
The minister knelt at the altar, he'd never done it before.
His cold heart melted, warmed with love, and met with Jesus there.
As the tears flowed, in his heart, he repeated old Jim's prayer:

"I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, LORD, HOW HAPPY I'VE BEEN, SINCE WE FOUND EACH OTHER'S FRIENDSHIP AND YOU TOOK AWAY MY SIN.
I DON'T KNOW MUCH OF HOW TO PRAY, BUT I THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY. SO, JESUS, THIS IS ME CHECKING IN TODAY."

Past noon one day, the minister noticed that old Jim hadn't come.
As more days passed without Jim, he began to worry some.
At the factory, he asked about him, learning he was ill.
The hospital staff was worried, but he'd given them a thrill.
The week that Jim was with them, brought changes in the ward.
His smiles, a joy contagious. Changed people, were his reward.

The head nurse couldn't understand why Jim was so glad, when no flowers, calls or cards came, not a visitor he had.
The minister stayed by his bed, he voiced the nurse's concern:
No friends came to show they cared. He had nowhere to turn.

Looking surprised, old Jim spoke up and with a winsome smile; "the nurse is wrong, she couldn't know, that in here all the while everyday at noon He's here, a dear friend of mine, you see, He sits right down, takes my hand, leans over and says to me:

"I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, JIM, HOW HAPPY I HAVE BEEN, SINCE WE FOUND THIS FRIENDSHIP, AND I TOOK AWAY YOUR SIN.
ALWAYS LOVE TO HEAR YOU PRAY, I THINK ABOUT YOU EACH DAY,
AND SO JIM, THIS IS JESUS CHECKING IN TODAY."

Today, I actually had no have-to-dos on my calendar, something very unusual, and welcome!  We went to the gym, I had 'maintained' again so got an aluminum credit card case, that is supposed to prevent identity theft by those sneaky scanner things.  I got a new book for Beth a while ago called Living with Neurofibromatosis, and wanted to start reading it to her, so spent time with her reading to her until time for her to go play Bingo.  Then I went to our Alco store, which is having a going out of business sale, and tried to do some Christmas shopping.  Phooey.  Couldn't find anything, and they still have only 10% off on most items, which I do not consider a sale!  But it does save you a tiny bit over the tax.

Now I am very sleepy.  Anyway, what I wanted to tell you is that during my two hours with God this morning I was praying for Beth, asking why He hasn't healed her yet, etc. and I got angry with God, was crying so hard and yelling at Him.  But we serve a loving, kind and understanding God, and He told me He understands all my emotions.  He said it is necessary to break my mother heart to help me to know Him better, or something to that effect.  I have it all in my journal, am not saying it now as He said it to me.  I took my journal and read it to Beth, and it really meant a lot to her.  When we are angry at God, we may as well admit it, for He knows our every thought and emotion anyway.  :'(  (The story Pat posted reminded me of my morning.)

Abby's gift arrived today.  She wants the French language course from Rosetta Stone, so I ordered it for her.  I hope it will be what she expects it to be.

Larry, I was thinking about you this morning and wondering about your piano.  Actually I was hoping you wouldn't sell it, as I know it probably means a lot to you.

I need to finish checking my email.  See you all later.

Oh my, Pat! You embarrass me.  :-[ Thank you all for your nice comments.  It's a nice picture because of my new corneas! It doesn't even look half-bad to me. haha My sister took that picture Monday when we were out Christmas shopping together.  We were in a store with the artificial trees and a bench in front of them.  How could we resist such a Kodak moment?  Speaking of, my hubby just ordered me 2 photography shirts. One says, "Excuse me, you're in my frame." The other one says, "Warning, I may snap at any time."  Each has a photography graphic of some kind.  Too funny!

If you think of it, I would appreciate prayers.  My husband's company merged and they don't need any of the exec. staff, so as of the end of Jan. my husband won't have a job unless God replaces it by then. He's already been talking to some people and networking about other job possibilities.

Praying for you all and your loved ones on here, although I haven't read every post.

Janet, you are very right about God understanding our emotions.  My mama's heart has been broken, too.  Just feel the feelings like you did and share them with Him.  He cares about every single tear you shed. By the way, my snowflake earrings (and I think the necklace too, sadly memory fails me at present) are also from my daughter.  :)

You all take care and have a great day!

Lovely picture of Shutterbugmom!  She is lovely to begin with after all.

We spent the entire day away from the house because Don had one appointment at the VA this morning and it is far from the house and then went to have a little lunch before his next appointment - came home in the dark and heavy traffic.  Stopped at Target and that was a huge mistake.  He is totally exhausted.

Started early before light this morning to try to knit a row or two - another mistake and I need to bring the sweater to my knitting neighbor.

Janet:  You are so truthful in telling us what happened and I can totally understand.  No matter, we are always loved and cherished and forgiven.  Grace is abundant.

Shutterbug.... Yes, you and your husband will be in my prayers for job security.  Exactly the same thing is happening at the same time to our daughter and she will lose insurance health care.

Larry:  I wonder if you can get packing help from friends - a packing party at your house, perhaps?  Wish we could help because this family knows how to pack.
