Morning Devotional...
The Only Way to the Father
Verse
Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' John 14:6It is more than a little strange that persons who modestly decline to risk an opinion on matters that do not touch them at all closely, such as philosophy or science for instance, are often ready and eager to pronounce with finality on religion which above all else is vital to their welfare for this world and that which is to come. This follows the popular notion that everyone is capable of discovering for himself the true way to heaven and that one man's belief is as good as another's in any kind of weather. A second tenet in this creed is that no one has the right to question the belief of anyone else or to try to influence him in any way in religious matters. This leads naturally to the third tenet which is that we should practice complete tolerance toward every expression of religious belief, however base or ill-founded it may be, and accept it as someone's way of worshiping God even if it isn't ours.
All this has about it a certain savor of charity and slips well off the lips of politicians, who are forced to try to please everyone, and liberal ministers who find it profitable to do so. But the man who has knelt before the burning bush or heard the sound of thunder on the mount can never bring himself to sell out his soul in that manner. The man who has walked beside the sea and has heard the voice of Jesus saying "No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6), can ever get the consent of his heart thus to trifle with religion. He has been smitten with the love of God and the wonder of the cross and he can never again be tolerant in things that touch his soul and the souls of his fellow men. He will live beside, be patient with, minister to, pray for and love any religionist of whatever color or creed from a cardinal to a medicine man from the long grass, but never will he compromise the truth to stay on good terms with anyone. He may die for men, but he will never trifle with them.
Thought
No one comes to the Father except through Jesus Christ. No one! No one! Because only Christ has paid the sin-debt for humankind. We cannot acknowledge as a way to the Father anything except the only way.
Prayer
Father, enable me to graciously, patiently, lovingly share with others the only way. From Devotions By Dr. Tozer
Thank you Don for this devotional. What in the world were you doing up at 4:52 in the morning!
I have a friend who is in the heat of the battle on a daily basis against the beliefs of atheists. It is a difficult battle and not an easy one. When we say there is only one way to heaven we are scoffed at and called intolerant. I don't mind being called that, when it comes to trusting mu Saviour.
Something for us all to think about.
Have been extremely tired today. We did get to church but I sat throughout the service and am no longer trying to sing the hymns to save my energy. I have spent the rest of the day resting but will try to stay up for a few hours this afternoon and early evening.
Pat, good idea to use a timer as it is easy to spend too long on something and not realize how long it has been.
Hi Al. Good to see you pop in.
Judy, sounds like Kim will learn a lot from spending the summer with you.
Ruth Ann, odd that we both had started on a little trip and then get called back because the person we were going to see was ill. Hope she will soon be better and able to enjoy the party next weekend.
Carol, have you ever seen flooding into your yard? My good friend Rod's grandson had to be rescued in the North Georgia mountain when he and another camp counselor were washed away in a flash flood. Fortunately the truck washed onto a little island and the firemen had to get them across the river on a safety line. His parents had just arrived to visit with him when they got the news. But all is well and he or the other fellow were not hurt. They got some video of the rescue, which I have seen.
Don, thanks for the new devotional for this week.
Hello friends:
I placed an order from Sears catalogue all items were in stock and delivery will be this coming week.
Larry: Take care of yourself.
Pat: Setting the timer is that a FlyLady idea.
We are home from our trip to Salin to visit daughter and grandsons. I had a lovely weekend and a good visit with Kerri. The boys were hardly around, guess they don't have much to talk to Grandma about anymore, but at least we made the effort to see Addison before he leaves for the Air Force next week. Kerri went shopping with me and helped me find just the things I wanted, and she also made me two lovely bracelets. She is a wonderful cook, and talented in many other ways as well. I pray she will be happy again, in God's timing.
My elderly friend is still hanging on. I brought her a small vase of flowers this evening, and she was happy to see me.
Good to hear from each of you, my friends.
There you go Ruth! Your picture has changed. Jeanne and I talked and figured it out. Have a great day! Hope your Sears items come in soon for you.
We had a wonderful day yesterday. A young man who is going into his last year at Bible College spoke, He was very good. He is the young husband of a girl who grew up with my girls. She has a sweet baby boy Judah, who is 5 months old. He used his love for the baby as an example of how intense God's love is for us. In one illustration he said he had a vision of his son hanging over a cliff and someone else needing his help to safety as well. He let go of the other person to save his son. He felt the Spirit speak to him saying God was faced with the same decision and he saved him and let go of his Son.......What a wonderful example of salvation!
We have cold nights here and at the moment warm days, needing extra blankets and daytime shorts.
Have a great day everyone.
Judy and I did talk - but the credit for Ruth's avatar goes fully to Judy. Thank you, Judy, for successfully taking over. It sure is a pleasure, Ruth, to see your beautiful smile every time you post!
It's a beautiful, sunny day, but with the thermometer hovering just around 70 and a brisk breeze blowing in the open windows, it's really a sweatshirt day. And August is usually our hottest month! Of course, there's still a lot of August left.
Larry: At least twice, we have seen the water in the ravine come up to the back fence and at that point it is almost level with our basement floor. Usually from a flash flood in the hills and the fact that too much concrete has covered a shopping center about six blocks away uphill. Another unintended consequence from planning. Your friend has to be so thankful for the flooded vehicle rescue. In Arizona, there is a big fine for driving into water and being rescued but I can understand that it can be unavoidable at times. I hope you are feeling less tired today.
Ruth: Like your new picture!
Hi everyone. Just a quick drop by this evening as the day is about gone and it has been busy. I felt a lot better today than yesterday.
Hi Everyone...
As some of you know and especially anyone reading my Facebook page, I had to race down to Virginia with no notice on Saturday night. I drove all night getting here at 8 am. Paul had had a very bad diverticulitis attack and had to call 911 to get to the hospital. Well, I spent yesterday there twice and then today I went and stayed for a long time in the afternoon and the doctor came in at about 5:15 pm or so and said he was happy with Paul's numbers and ok'd him to go home.
So, we're now home. He's very weak and it will take time learning to eat the food he's supposed to eat. Very difficult going from good whole grain bread to white!! Anyway, he'll work at it and hopefully there won't be any more 911 calls needed.
I thought of Paul when I read this poem just now....
But God
Annie Johnson Flint
I know not, but God knows;
Oh, blessed rest from fear!
All my unfolding days
To Him are plain and clear.
Each anxious, puzzled "Why?"
From doubt or dread that grows,
Finds answer in this thought;
I know not, but He knows.
I cannot, but God can;
Oh, balm for all my care!
The burden that I drop
His hand will lift and bear,
Though eagle pinions tire --
I walk where once I ran --
This is my strength, to know
I cannot, but God can.
I see not, but God sees;
Oh, all-sufficient light!
My dark and hidden way
To Him is always bright.
My strained and peering eyes
May close in restful ease,
And I in peace may sleep;
I see not, but He sees.
Pat, glad Paul is home. Now don't forget to take care of YOU while you take care of Paul!
Larry, so glad to read you had a better day. I think of and pray for you each day.
Carol, always good to read your posts. I wish I had a good Bible study group to join.
Busy day aruond here. The guys got the concrete run, even though it was very hot and humid. We got a couple of really good rains, and are thinking maybe the drought is broken now.
Not much to report, just checking in.
Pat, I'm sure Paul is glad to be home, and not needing to go back and forth for hospital visits will make things easier for you. So now REST! I'll be holding you both in my prayers.
Hi, friends,
It seems time flies when we're busy. Or, not feeling great and trying to be busy anyway. ???
I pretended to be a taxi driver today. One call was to take someone to the airport at 4:30am, and one call to take someone shopping at 11:00am.
Now, it's time to let the bed "rock" me to sleep. :)
Love to each of you. (Oh, yes, the granddaughter's fever has now broken, so she should improve rapidly.)
Ruth Ann
OK Well my post went poof last night. It is a cool rainy day, we will work inside today. We got a lot of sorting done yesterday, and hope to get more inside work done today.
John is laughing at my comment that my post went poof.....wait till it happens to him! :clobber: (at the computer).
Heather finally has an antenna that he can use on the road which will give him a signal to chat with me at home... We will get that at the end of the month. It is so good to have him home. I am conflicted: I know how much he loves his job that he would love to continue with, and I know how much I would love him at home.
We were at a friend's home on Sunday. They have a very energetic Australian Shepherd. Zeek and Autumn played constantly for hours, then we put Zeek in his cage for a rest and he slept well. When he got up he went after Autumn again and Autumn went and got a ball and brought it to me. Then flopped down beside me as if to say "You play with him, I'm done in!" Dogs are soo funny.
If you are in to word studies, look up the word repent, the verses on repent are so interesting when they are linked together! Then use the same references and look at the context for each verse. Fascinating study!
Well home for another weeks holidays this week. Getting some more work done around the house but nothing like the week we did the roof. Weather is much cooler this week which makes it much more pleasant to get things done. We are going to take a day or two to do some day trips this week though. Need to take some time off for R&R as well. As the old saying goes All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. I'm dull enough so don't need to push my luck on that one. CP is really quiet this week Where are all the people. Missing reading the posts. We need to keep up the fellowship and encourage each other and grow spiritually with our contact. Glad Paul is home again. Take it from many years of experience with family members Paul, best thing you can do is follow doctors orders and things should go much more pleasantly for you. Well going to run for now. thing I will work on finishing the bathroom today as there is a threat of rain today. So we will work inside today. Don't want to get wet. Made of sugar you know LOL Later folks God Bless.
Hi everyone. It is another overcast day but expect the sun will be out later as it was yesterday afternoon. I was able to sleep in a little later this morning, which I enjoyed. My treatment went well yesterday and expect the same today. Pat offered to go with me again today but it just isn't necessary and all that riding and sitting is difficult for her. Nothing else planned for today other than seeing what may be involved in getting the Brother's printer, that I thought I wasn't going to be able to use, hooked up wirelessly. Yesterday I mentioned to the housekeeper the problem we were having getting ink cartridge installed and she took a look and on the first try the cartridge slid in place so will try to put it back in service again. It is the newest printer we have and will use it in my office and let Pat have the old reliable Canon I have used for years.
Pat, nice to read that Paul is home and hopefully feeling better. I am sure it will be difficult for Paul to slow down for a bit as he recovers. Hope you had the chance to rest a bit also. A beautiful poem.
Janet, wish you could be a part of our Wednesday morning Bible study group. We always love to have new folks join us and our pastor is a very good teacher. We have about 15 to 20 very dedicated folks who attend if they can. I am having to miss for awhile as I go for my treatments but will be back the second week of September, if all goes well. I must have missed something as have no idea why you would be running concrete--nosy aren't I?
Ruth Ann, I think you need to get one of those taxi signs for your little car. Of course, you would have to go through all kinds of licensing procedures and fees so guess that isn't a very good idea. :) Nice of you to be helpful where you can be. Glad to see your granddaughter is improving.
Judy, such a cute story of Autumn wanting you to play with Zeke. I am sure that John is torn as to retirement and continuing to drive. Some decisions are really difficult.
John, nice to see you have a week's holiday so you can do things you want to do and as you say get some R&R.
Larry, thanks for your comment, as I really don't recall now whether or not I mentioned the work we are doing. Our front door is on the south, and the wind here in Kansas almost always blows from the southwest--thus the storm door has been ripped off numerous times. Poor thing has been repaired over and over; even having two closures on it, top and bottom, doesn't take care of the problem. Plus the fact that this building is really a metal farm shed, and not very attractive on the outside. It is lovely inside, especially since the complete renovation following the water damage, but I have always wished for it to be more attractive on the outside. I will take a before and an after photo, and maybe our resident gurus will help me post them so you can see what I'm yakking about. TMI....anyway, we are having Lon the carpenter build a porch room (though totally enclosed) and the front door will be set back from the wall a little bit, and face the west. The little room will have nice windows, and will be a place to enjoy coffee in the mornings or other activities. I think we will enjoy the improvements a lot, even though the cost of doing anything now is unbelievable!
I have a dentist appointment in a few minutes, will try to come back and chat more later. I wish you all a good day. John and Judy, we can surely empathize with each other with our "home improvements!"
Thanks for changing my picture:
I am still having knee problems
My mission for today is going out to do some grocery shopping
for auntie. I will be going to no frills then Wal Mart as they have the type of meat that works best for aunties needs.
For the knitters out there what is the best way to cast on stitches in order to have the best cuff stretch I usually get them to tight.
Janet: Will you be wishing that you chose to live in a house? Although I know of a house farther that the silo is part of the home and I do like the look.
Best be on my way.
Pat: Hugs to Paul and you. Such a fright for you to drive all that way in an emergency. Those infections are really dangerous. Prayers for total recovery. I had no idea whole grains were problems. The internet has all kinds of information - I had a problem once but didn't know why and never got the best information because we were out of town at the time. Anyway, it is good you can be there.
Ruth Ann: Rest well.
Janet: We are excited about learning who the new pastor will be - it was an unanimous decision so that is good. I sure do like the bible studies here and will look through what is offered beginning in September - besides my Wednesday morning study. If they have a 4 month study that isn't quilt night, I would be interested.
Today is daughter's birthday and we will celebrate with her another day. Her two children came to her office with flowers and took her to Starbucks for a coffee. Of course, they brought her favorite dog.
Remember to look at Mars this month as it will be over 200 years before it will be this close again. Look when the moon rises.
Ruth use a needle that is 2 - 3 sizes larger than the pattern calls for, that should make the cuffs loose enough for the stretch.
The church I used to go to is also getting a new pastor, looks like it will be one from London.
WE are weary tonight, supper is on the go and and will be ready in a bit. Looking forward to my bed tonight.
Ruth, building living quarters inside a metal building had been a dream of Darrel's for years, so that's what we did. We are in the process of selling the huge house we had lived in for years. For the two of us, we didn't really need 6,000 sq. feet. ;) I don't mind it here, as I said, the inside is very nice. And soon the front will look better, too.
We are getting another rain! WOW! It is already a muddy bog out front! They had said possible quarter sized hair, so far, none, and hope we don't get any.
Carol, it's always exciting when a church gets a new pastor. Sometimes we get disappointed badly, and I hope that won't be the case with your church. A good pastor is worth his weight in gold. They are to start up our small groups again, but pastor will assign us to the one he wants us to attend. Not sure I like that idea. All will be studying the same book by Francis Chan.
My elderly friend is still hanging on. So sad that she must spend her last days in bed, either in the hospital or in the care home. I love her, she's such a sweetheart.
Hello friends:
Thanks Judy I will give the larger needle a try when I get the other ball of yarn in the mail.
I went out this afternoon doing the grocery shopping for auntie, she seems to like the surprises I had got a bag of frozen veg. to many so they are being kept in here neighbors freezer meaning that I filled her frig.freezer thus the need to borrow space from her neighbor.
Yummy we had the last of our fresh corn for supper.
Thinking of you Pat and tell Paul to get well quick.
Carol, Janet, Larry ,John B, Jeanne, Hello.
Ruth Ann: Did you have any more contact with Doug & Marie. that I know
Janet: Enjoy Darrel's dream
Ruth.... ;)
Janet I giggled over your quarter sized HAIR. I knew you meant hail, however I found it funny.
Went out and got papers for the dog cages, and a treat for all of us. We are heading to bed soon. Tonight I suspect I will be asleep before John heads up!.
Hi everyone. It is a dark and dreary sort of day with a 60% chance of rain. Nothing on schedule today but my trip to Athens. I have asked Pat to go with me today as am not feeling up to par and may need her to drive. I didn't get my printer installed yesterday. I started the project but just didn't have the energy to complete it and doubt that I try to tackle it today.
Janet, your little room and protected doorway facing another direction sound great and know you will enjoy it.
Ruth, hope your knees are feeling better today and not worse after the shopping.
Carol, I have't heard anything about Mars being close to the earth than it will be for another 200 years. I marvel at someone being able to figure out that fact.
Judy, it sounds like you and John are working too hard. :)
Janet, perhaps the pastor is trying to assure that people don't gravitate the the groups with their closest friends but using them as a way to let people to know each other better.
Judy---Now, that is some coarse hair, huh? Think I would need a new comb, for sure. ;) Typos can cause some funny mental pictures, can't they?
Larry, sorry to hear you aren't feeling strong today. Hope your day isn't too stressful, nor for Pat, either.
Today is a day of errands and frustrations. I am so glad I started the day with God, and that He is always with me. I do have a fun tea party to attend later, though, so it's all good.
My elderly friend's arm is very swollen, and they came in to X-ray it while I was there this morning. They think she may have fractured it as well as her pelvis when she fell. I feel so bad for her. She says she isn't in any pain, though.
Pat, how is Paul, and how are YOU? I am sending my love..... <3
Well just got back from town. It rained here today so we went into town to do some errands and pick up a few supplies for our reno here. Yes Larry I think we are working to hard. Its that honey do list that keeps getting longer and longer. And I cant even tear the thing up as it is in Judy s head.
Janet you brought an image to my mind about that coarse hair LOL If that was true one would need a hay fork to comb it.
Anyway going to go for now. Supper looks like its coming up so my stomach says get ready to inhale some food.
I have no clue where to start today. Let it suffice to say that Melaura called sobbing that her Dog Gizmo was having convulsions and she didn't know what to do or how to do it. I directed her to our vet and met her there. The convulsions hadn't stopped for about an hour....maybe more. :o Poor wee dog (a silky terrier) had made a mess in her house and couldn't stop the convulsions. They wanted to keep him there do all sorts of tests, and give all kinds of meds to the tune of ............Wait for it..........$1000. Poor kid she couldn't afford that, so we talked him down to one night, and do only what was necessary to stop the convulsions. He was leaning toward the problem being epilepsy. So today was a sad day......
I had a Doctors visit, that was good, we picked up a few things we needed for the plumbing. Yes Larry I agree with you.
The rest of the day was a mish-mosh of running around.
Please pray for Melaura, she is a mess emotionally.
I will be gone for a few days we are going up the coast Thursday then on to Portland on Friday to spend some time with the boys and go to the Bite of Oregon festival on Saturday.
John, you gave me a grin with your comment "It looks like supper is coming up" as I pictured you about to throw up! So it's good to know supper was about ready to go down, instead of coming up! ;)
Yes! A pitchfork would be the right comb for that kind of hair! :)
Janet, John's post gave me an entirely different "picture". I saw him sitting at the table and the food being "inhaled" directly into his stomach, bypassing chewing and swallowing. ;D
Marilyn, sounds like you have a great weekend planned. Don't forget to take your Sensa to the Bite of Oregon! :D
Hi everyone. It is another overcast day. There was a lot of rain yesterday in various parts or Georgia. We drove through some rain going to Athens and back. I did ask Pat to drive me there yesterday as wasn't feeling safe to be behind the wheel. So far this morning I feel better but must make a quick trip to Walmart to see if I can get my toenails trimmed as they are bothering me. I will use an electric cart and pick up a few other items while I am there. Then the trip to Athens this morning for treatment 15. That will be it for today.
No individual comments today.
Hi folks just a quick post before I get at things for the day. Glad to see some of you people getting a few chuckles from my posts. I think that is what we all need is some more laughs to lift spirits. Laughter is good for what ales you. Got to run. Be back tonight.
Hi folks,
I want to thank you all for your concern and prayers for Pat and I over the episode I've been through over these last days. I'm finally over the worst and on the mend which involves a 6 month program of eating the proper foods which will be really good for me at this stage of life.
Thank you, Larry, for your sharing each day so faithfully. We continue to pray for you and your condition and that the Lord will continue to give you His strength for each new day.
Paul, thank you for giving us an update. I'm sure you know we've all been praying for your healing. Of course the thing now is to stick closely to the "don't eats" in order to avoid a repeat.
IF GOD IS FOR US, WHO CAN BE AGAINST US?..Romans 8:31
This morning, we were abruptly awakened at 3:30 A.M. by a loud, strange noise. We both jumped up, asking, "What was that?" and discovered that a chunk of the ceiling in our master bathroom, about three feet across, had fallen to the floor, and hot water was pouring out of the hole! "NOT AGAIN!!" was my first response. Of course, Darrel ran to shut off the water main, while I grabbed a wastebasket to try to catch as much water as I could. We got some of the mess cleaned up, and I waited until 8 to call Lon. He came out, and they have torn out half the ceiling, the wall of Darrel's closet, pulled up and laid back the carpet in the hall and set fans to dry things out. Not a good start to the day. But I was thinking of the above verse, and about the fact that God loves us, He is NOT mad at us, He wants us to prosper, He will never leave us nor forsake us. So I told the devil, "You will NOT have the victory! You will have to pay us back seven times for this!" Now I wait with anticipation to see how God turns this problem into a blessing in our lives.
As you might think, I am very tired and feel emotionally wrung out. But it is, after all, only material stuff, and our lives do not consist in the things we possess. So many things are so much more valuable and important than stuff. So I am praising God, anyway.
Hope all of you are having a good day today.
My goodness, Janet! What a way to start the day. Do you have insurance to cover the cost of repairs?
Janet: It sounds just shocking all the water problems you have had in this house. So sorry - probably it was good that it made a noise loud enough for you to hear. No, you do not need more of those problems. You have a wonderful and right attitude.
It took the better part of my day but I finally got the post office in Arizona to look for a prescription mailed there and not forwarded to our home here in Colorado. Spoke to a robot at first and that is just insanity because there are only two choices of what to say and nothing that fit with my problem. Telling the robot to "get me a human" didn't help either. Then, had a long conversation with someone somewhere in this country (maybe). Finally, he had to give me the direct phone line to that particular post office - not easy to find direct lines anymore. Not listed. Now, that makes sense if you don't want the phone to ring.
Paul: That is just great news and wonderful that a special diet or most likely eliminating some foods will help in the healing. Take care. We send our prayers to you.
Our daughter-in-law was jogging near their summer house in Montana (they can work anywhere so they choose to go there when it is hot here). So, she was running and a deer ran into her, knocking her down but she is alright. Now we will have a good story to tell.
Hello friends:
Carol; Interesting instead of a deer running into a veh. it collided with a human.
Larry: Keep well we need you around for sometime yet.
Janet: Sounds like you had a great alarm clock. :laff:
John: Will you be returning to work for some rest?
Marilyn: Have a wonderful vacation.
As for my day. It was the routine foot care. Then to Sears to pick up a parcel and on to Staples for printer ink them home.
Now it is time to get dinner ready.
Raspberry Jam......
2 bushels of beans to clean and put down.....
1/2 Bushel of snap peas.....
Busy day ahead.
The real news is that a dear friend of ours fell down 2 steps, broke her hand in 2 places broke her shoulder in a couple of places, and a compression fracture the L1 vertebrae. Her husband has Parkinsons and cancer and is hard to understand. She is in Hospital (we went to see her and pray with her tonight) and he is in a Nursing home totally dependent on her. Please pray for Al and Jolene.
Got to run, and decide whether I am going to finish the jam tonight.
Well folks she finished the jam tonight Its now 11.30 and she finally is ready to call it a night. Yes I married a night hawk. When she gets her energy spurt I am in the process of shutting down for the day. That's why when we ran team on the truck together there was never an argument about who was going to drive the day or night shift. I may have to rethink this whole idea of retirement. With Judy's late nights I think she just might wear me out. Well I'm calling it a day as tomorrow is going to be another busy day. Be working on finishing the reno. Janet I can sure empathize with you and your water problem. Hope all works out well for you. Paul good to hear your on the mend. Larry hope you are feeling better soon as well. Well must go now and get my beauty sleep. Need all the help I can get there.
It is such a blessing to pray for a friend in Hospital that is in a bad situation. I know it brings renewed hope.
Jam done, beans and peas tomorrow.
God bless.
Hi, friends,
I want so much to comment to everyone, but it's too late, and I need to get to bed to be ready for a doctor's appointment tomorrow.
Y'all have had times when your energy simply ran out, and then some little infection would start...well, I've had that time these last 6 weeks. So, imagine just how grateful I am tonight for the boost of energy an iron supplement (prescribed by doctor) and also an antibiotic (also a doctor's Rx) have given me. Oh, how thankful I am that God has given us those more knowledgeable to guide us through some of our "medical miseries."
Each of you know that I read every post, and set up private devotions times to pray for the needs.
May God be with each of you tonight.
Ruth Ann
Hi everyone on a sunny morning here in Georgia. I have been to coffee at the Senior Center, will do the message boards for today, make my trip to Athens and that will be it today. I am really very weary today and if Pat feels up to it I may ask her to drive again today. However, she may have some other plans for this morning. On Wednesday as Pat was driving us back from Athens a deer came across the median of the four lane highway and ran into the side of our car. I expected to see a dent or cracked paint when we got home as there was no need to stop as the operation of the car was effected. Fortunately, there isn't a mark on the car so think it must have been a glancing blow probably as the place where the steel brace goes through the doors. We felt very fortunate because if we had been four feet or so back on the road we would likely have hit him with the front of the car and who knows what would have happened. God protected us again.
John, I sure agree with you on laughter being a good medicine and it really lifts a persons spirits. John, you and Judy sound a lot like Pat and I in that I am a morning person and she is a night person.
Paul, glad to see your post and see your are feeling better. The proper foods certainly won't hurt you. I appreciate all the continued prayers for me and my family.
Janet, I am so sorry for you about the new water problems in your beautiful home. Hopefully the rest of the day went better yesterday. I can see a blessing in that you were home when the ceiling fell rather than away for the day or longer. Hope you were able to rest last night.
Carol, it seems every year being able to speak to a human at a particular location is getting harder and harder to accomplish. Your DIL is fortunate that she wasn't hurt by that deer. In our area there are just too many dear without the natural predators to keep them under control.
Ruth, I hope to be around for awhile.
Judy, such a sad occurrence for Jolene. She must be in terrible pain. The jam sounds good. It sounds like your garden is really producing with the beans and peas to take care of. Do you can them or freeze them?
Ruth Ann, nice to see you are experiencing a little more energy. If you have any excess please send it down my way.
Our garden didn't amount to anything, we had to go out and buy beans and peas. Our garden has produced carrots and beats as well as leafy greens though, so we will harvest those.
We are both tired today.....not my fault though! Hahahaha. We do laugh a lot, and so much enjoy each other's company. I know at our stage in marriage that is not always the case.
Our 13 year old grand daughter is learning so much, and has come so far. She knows how to make jam and will be learning how to make preserves. When she gets home she will have the (mental) tools to be able to continue this. We are now talking about peach, pear, grape, and chokecherry jams and jellies. Also peach and pear preserves.
She is such a charming young lady and keeps me on my toes.
Bright sun and a very brisk wind today and that adds up to a perfect laundry day. The last three days the forecast was for rain or showers every day but all we had here was a light sprinkle one afternoon. South of Albany, though, they got drenched and there are flash flood warnings for that area for another day.
The washer just dinged so it's time to get this load out on the line.
Good Morning everyone. Where has everyone gone. No one seems to have posted anything since Judy's post yesterday morning about 8:30. Well thought I would put in a quick post to start the day. Finished off the last little details on my roof job yesterday so no more climbing up and down the ladder. Sure glad that is done. Found that I am not as comfortable on the ladder as I used to be. Now to finish other projects, but the good thing about them is they are all at ground level. So no climbing. I guess I'll be helping Judy today with finishing her canning and freezing today and then get ready to hit the trail again tomorrow afternoon on my way to Wisconsin. Back to work again till Christmas when I will have my last week holidays for this year. Looking forward to retiring. Just don't have time to go to work anymore but still need the paycheck. Don't need the work, have lots of that to do here right at home. Looked out across the field in front of our house yesterday and saw a deer crossing. Earlier this week we had a group of 4 deer behind our house. That's the beauty of living here in the north. We see all kinds of wildlife up here. Last week I had a huge cow moose cross the highway in front of my truck and I have seen all kinds of black bear this year as well. Then there is lots of smaller animals like last night on our way home there was a fox that looked like he was going to take on the car. anyway got to run for now. Work calls Will check back later. hope to see some new posts.
Hi everyone on a sunny and pleasant day here in Georgia. We got through the whole day yesterday without rain and while a bit hot and humid it still was nice to see the sun. I woke up this morning feeling more alert and generally better. I think my blood pressure has been causing me to feel so tired as it has been running in the 80's over the 40's or low 50's based on checks at the Heart Clinic before and after my treatments. I actually feel like tackling a few things today which I haven't all week. I plan on staying home all day unless we decide to go out to out somewhere this evening as Pat as prepared evening meals all week. I was greatly saddened yesterday when I learned of the death of my good friend who has been battling prostate cancer. There will be a memorable service a week from today in the morning probably 60 miles or so from here. We have theater tickets to see Les Miserable at 2:30 next Saturday afternoon so it is going to be a tight schedule and a busy day for us.
Judy sorry to read that your garden has failed you a bit this year but at least you did get some harvest from it. It sounds like you are having a nice time with your grand daughter but suppose she will be headed to school in a few days. Our schools started this week so school buses are back on the road. Our country school system has 1,600 buses but of course there are close to 170,000 students in the system.
Jeanne, do you know where Granville is located? I think it is somewhere in your general area as they are close to Vermont and Saratoga Falls. My great grandchildren live in Granville and the father's dad lives in Saratoga Falls. I still remember trying to hang sheets or other items on the line when the wind was blowing.
John, not being as comfortable on a ladder as you used to be just might relate to that last birthday you celebrated and a few before. :) On a farm there is always something needing work. I grew up on a farm and am well aware that the work never gets done. I think I saw deer tracks in our yard this morning. Stay away from the moose as they can hurt you very easily. We saw them when we lived in Alaska and they got the right-of-way.
Larry, I'm not very far from Granville. Of course I'm closer to Saratoga, which is only 12 miles from here. If you ever get a chance to visit your grandson and his family, although I know that's not really to be expected, a meeting would definitely be doable. I guess there's about as much chance of you coming up here as there is of my going to Atlanta. So we'll just have to keep "meeting" here.
Jeanne, what Bible Conference Grounds were Pat and Jack at when they nearly came to visit you but you and Gene were very ill and that meeting couldn't take place. She can't think of the name.
Checking in and reading all your concerns.
We are soon off to visit daughter for the night. She always wants us to stay so we pack lightly and love to stay over - well, Don maybe not so much love about it but he is wanting to play cribbage with grandson who is moving to B.Columbia next week. A lot is Up in the air in his future and we pray constantly for safety and all who know him.
I am bringing chocolate brownies. Tuckered from a drive in horrendous weather yesterday after spending time at quilt expo while Don met with his retired pastor friend near our former home.
New York is said to be a beautiful state - I have only seen it from the air but there were lots of trees and lakes.
Our tomatoes are just awful this year and so are everyone's so it isn't just us doing something wrong. Herbs, especially sage and rosemary look great. I will dry them in a dehydrator and give as gifts. Lucky that rabbits don't touch the herbs.
Will drop out of our neighborhood book club. It started out so well and now 3 or 4 strongly willed women are taking over and a few people have dropped out - the books are now being chosen are not to liking and I am going to the book club in my bible study group this fall. We can read what we want but a waste of time to spend on downer themes and this latest one has crude language which I won't abide.
Other than that, it is a wonderful day here and we are meeting with half of the family. Life is good.
Paul, now you did it! I can't remember the name of that conference sight, either! I think it was something "in the Woods" but I'm not even sure of that. I'll see if I can find out. I know it was at or near Lake.... now I can't remember that either! I'll probably remember around 3:00 in the morning. Can I call you then? ;D
Jeanne - was it possibly "Lake of the Woods??
I don't think that's quite it, Al. More like Camp of the Woods or something. But of course I'm not sure - my somezhimer has kicked in. :)
Al Lake Of The Woods is in northern Ontario bordering Minnesota. Well we are calling it a day. Lots got done around here today. Managed to shorten Judy's honey do list somewhat. But now I go back out on the road tomorrow so I'm sure other things will crop up while I away this week. Long range forecast says rain for next weekend in this area so maybe that will give me the chance to finish my inside project. Will have to see when I get home. Be nice to get everything wrapped up for a while so I can take a day and go fishing or something. Anyway I best not complain as the lord has given me the strength and the ability to do a lot of these things myself without having to go out and hire someone at the rate of 59 dollars an hour up here. We must be thankful for what we have. The scripture say the Lord will supply all our need and that he has sure done for us. Well I think I will go for today. time to turn in soon.
We did get a lot done today. I am really thrilled to find that I have more jam jars than I thought. Kim is learning how to make jam, and how to freeze veggies for her family.Everything we bought is done, frozen canned or into jam.
I have found a great program which I have used to label my jam.... http://www.jamlabelizer.com/ Heather helped with set up however it is great and there is no guessing about which jam is which!
Pat have been trying to call, left a couple of messages. If you could call tomorrow evening I'd appreciate it.
Our little guy Zeek is getting really good at the potty training. It is taking time to learn his cues, his language is slightly different to the other dogs. He will wine and the others will nudge our leg or stare at me. He is catching on though.
Al good to see you coming here so often! We have missed you!
I am tired tonight, so it is off to bed. Night all.
I am home again, after enjoying a brief time away, painting with friends. The carpet has dried, and the fans are off, so that's progress. :) Boy, the part of Kansas to the east we drove through is WET!! Lots of rain was received up that way, and they are saying, "Enough for now!"
I'm glad to be safely back home, but tired, so am heading for bed. I have read all your posts, and am glad to see each one.
Hi, friends,
Well, it's "iffy" as to whether I'll go to be with my granddaughter tomorrow - she's running another high fever. I think these late summer allergies have her in their grip.
At any rate, it's good to see y'all, and to read the posts.
Today has been devoted to letting Ruth Ann rest a bit. :)
Y'all have a good day today!
Ruth Ann
Good Morning everyone...
Almost ready to go to church.
Jeanne, it's "Camp-of-the-Woods" in Speculator, New York on Pleasant Lake. Wow, my brain is sore trying to remember that!
I left in such a hurry to come down here because of Paul's health that I brought tops but forgot to pick up my skirts I laid out on the bed to bring and then today I went to my shoe bag and went to get out my flat Sunday shoes and I have odd black shoes!!! So, I'm having to wear my Birkenstocks!
Pat, I was just coming here to say I finally remembered Speculator and Lake Pleasant. And I was right about Camp of the Woods, too. Looks like we're thinking alike again! ;) Anyway, mystery solved.
I guess wearing your Birkenstocks to church is better than wearing MY running shoes!
