Don: Hey Judy, It's been a long time. Hope you are doing well. 2024-12-02, 22:41:41

JennyW: Hello Everyone! Just checking in to see if anyone wants to get this group going again! Hope all is well where ever you live! 2024-08-14, 08:21:59

Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Oldiesmann: So sorry for your loss Carol. Praying for you and your family :( 2022-05-01, 17:13:05

Carol: My husband Don is with the angels.....Our family was able to hold  ourselves together for the last moments.  Juar rhoufhr you might want to know. 2022-04-29, 23:35:15

Carol: Thankful:  Don is home from hospital.  I found him unconscious with head outside on the floor and the rest was in the shower.  At the same moment, one son was walking through the front door to visit.  Two fire trucks came racing in and they took over After 2021-12-29, 22:01:26

Great capture Kevin and a beautiful bird.

I see you have a 400/5.6 lenses which i assume you shot this with. You also have an extender and was wondering if you used it for this capture. I have a 200/2.8 and a 1.4 extender and its really not enough lenses, well i don't think it is anyway. That is why i ask.

Thanks

Don

Hi Don,

No, I didn't use the extender for this shot.  Just the 400 on a tripod, aperture priority, ISO 400, f6.3.  I use the 1.4x with the 400 on occasion, but then I have to manually focus when I do.  Brings back some memories of my old Canon AE-1 Program!

Thanks for looking.

Lovely picture, interesting bird.  What size is it?  Starling size?  We do love our birds here don't we!

Yep, know what you mean. My first real camera was a Canon AE-1 that i purchased back in the 70's. I still have it but haven't used it in a loooong time.

It can get up to about 27-30 cm long.  I guess that is a bit bigger than a starling!  And it is NOISY, too!

I still have mine, too.  And I still have my Nikon F-801, both retired to my glass-enclosed bookshelf.

Kevin, that's some capture.

I love the sharp focus on the little tree twigs that the bird is sitting on and the DOF is fantastic.  Love this whole image!

What a wonderful shot!

I started my studies of photography in 2003 with an AE-1 Program that I bought used for like $125. lenses and all.  They are timeless in their quality and sturdiness and their batteries hardly ever need to be changed.  Of course, the film is much more frequent. LOL  Mine's retired to my closet since I now use a Canon EOS 20D, but I know that if I had to be without my digital for some reason, that I could buy some film and be back in business with my AE-1 Program.

What a beautiful bird.  Beautiful capture, too!

Kathleen, when you say "program", do you mean that you bought a camera and lenses and some study material for $125. ?

Sounds as if it was really good for you.

She was certainly right about that. I can't remember ever charging or replacing the battery in mine. I just went to the closet and got it out, i know it has been there 15 years, and the battery is still good. I could hardly believe it. Its seems to work perfectly. The case for it shows a little wear but other than that i think she is ready to go.

I think my dad has one of those in his closet too (not the bird, the camera). Must have been a popular camera.

No, Pat.  The name of the camera is the "AE-1 Program".  It came after the "AE-1".  I'll post a pict of my old sweetie someday.
