Here you can see the difference between the British Robin of Neil's and the American (although this one is Canadian) Robin.


After the rain last night, I saw this robin on the lawn...

Always the first sign of spring!

Wow Pat, that is a beautiful looking bird and so much diffrent to our Robins in the UK. It also looks like it is larger than ours.

I enjoy bird watching and i'm blessed to live near the HQ of the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) here in England. But after seeing many of the photos of birds from America, i have to admit that you seem to have some of the most wonderful, colourful feathered friends i have seen. God certainly has an eye for colour

Neil, I'll try to get a better one for you.  This little guy had such a difficult time trying to yank a huge long worm out of the ground and I kept snapping but they aren't in focus.

Our robins are related to and about the same size as a Thrush. 

I love the birds I see on the Photography Cafe that are from the UK members and wish we had them here!  HAHAHAHA!

Thanks Pat. I look forward to seeing more photos of your Robins. They are certainly bigger than ours if they are about the size of a Thrush.

He's an Associate of The Royal Photographic society and is marvelous at butterflies and wildlife.  I wonder if he lives near you.  He lives in Wrecclesham.  Looks like he's south-east of Basingstoke.

Great photos there Pat and lots to look at. I will be bookmarking this so i can keep going back and make my way through his photos....It's only when you look at someone's photos like this that you realise that we do have lots of colourful birds here after all.

As for living close by. He isn't far at all. I live in the home counties just 30 miles north of London. So not far at all.

My late husband and I stayed often in Hemel Hempstead when we went over there to hike if we were hiking in the south of England.  Stayed in Chester if we were hiking in North Wales and surrounding areas.

Hemel Hempstead is less than 10 miles from my house. I live in Bedfordshire, which hopefully you know 

Oh, wow!  So you know the incredibly busy mind boggling traffic circle in Hemel!  What a drive the first time you get on it!  HAHAHAHA!

Yes, I know Bedfordshire.

Ah the magic roundabout. That must be the most confusing piece of road you can come across the first time you approach it. But you soon get use to it. Well, after about 15 years i did 

So, Neil, tell me.  Are you near to Ashridge, Hertfordshire

Wonderful bluebells there.  Great hiking too.

Yes Pat, we often drive over to Ashridge. Its absolutely beautiful there and going to the top of the monument and looking out from that height is so nice.

We also go often to Ivinghoe beacon, which isn't far from Ashridge and is a lovely walk. I have some photos on my PC that i took from there last summer 

The downs where i took my photos of the hang glider from is Dunstable Downs. Have you been there before?

Neil, you have no idea what a wonderful chat this has been.  Jack died 6 years ago so I haven't been back to the UK in all that time but what a lot of hiking we did whenever we were there.  Yes, I know where Dunstable and the beacon.  I just wish I'd had digital when over there back all those years.  We found all the film so expensive to develop.

Over the years, Jack and I walked almost the whole of the South-West Coast Path, ending at Eype (just east of the Golden Cap).  And we did the whole of the Offas Dyke Path from south to North and then at other times, lots of times we spent on the northerly bits near to Cilcain in N. Wales. 

Will look forward to more of your scenery photos, Neil.  So lovely to see.

Do you have the bluebells of Ashridge?  I don't have any.

Pat, i'm glad you've enjoyed the chat about England. I have enjoyed it immensely myself. The Internet has most definetly made our world a smaller place.

I'm sorry, but i haven't got any recent photos of Ashridge with it's bluebells and i think if i went over there now, i will probably be too late. My mother was over there last month and said how splendid it was looking.

I have posted a few photos taken from Ivinghoe Beacon over on the landscape part of the board, which will hopefully remind you of this area.

Your welcomed and hopefully, if allowed, you will be learning and seeing lots more from these shores

Pat perhaps if we are able to make a trip we could see some of these beauties over there?

Neil Pat and I are sisters, and we have both been in the British Isles, I was considerably younger when I was there last.  I did so enjoy the time spent there.  Pat lived in Ireland and I stayed there for a year with her, an awesome year.

Keep the pictures coming we really do enjoy them.
